The Breckenridge Recreation Team offers quality programs, facilities, and services that encourage community participation and promote fun, physical activity, and growth.

Programs Policies & General Info

The Breckenridge Recreation Department is constantly striving to provide you with the highest quality recreation programs. If you are not completely satisfied, let us know and we will do our best to serve your needs.

All classes will meet or be conducted at the Breckenridge Recreation Center, Stephen C. West Ice Arena or Gold Run Nordic Center, unless otherwise noted.

The Breckenridge Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any activity due to lack of enrollment, inclement weather or causes beyond our control.

If you have special needs and require assistance to participate in our programs or use our facilities, please contact us to make arrangements prior to class start by calling (970) 453-1734.

Class confirmations are not mailed out. Assume your class is a "go" unless you are notified. Refunds and transfers must be requested 5 working days, excluding weekends, prior to the scheduled start of any

activity. There is a $3 service charge on refunds requested by the participant and no refunds with less than 5 days notice.

There is no service charge if we cancel the activity. Please refer to individual class descriptions for further information regarding refunds and transfer policies, as some classes may differ. Refunds may take 3 to 4 weeks to process.

No refunds of any programs after one year past a program’s start date. Program participants who do not have a Center pass may use locker room and shower facilities. Please contact the Breckenridge Recreation Department at (970) 453-1734, if additional information or assistance is

required. The consumption of alcohol and/or federally prohibited substances is prohibited while participating in any and all

Recreation Department programs or facilities.

Recreation Center Policies

All guests use the Recreation Center programs and facilities at their own risk. Age restrictions apply throughout the facility. We ask that all guests be considerate of other users and visitors in the building. Please dress appropriately and use

appropriate language while in the Recreation Center or participating in programs. In order to provide you with the best experience possible, we ask that you please be aware of high usage times.

These include early morning (before work), early evening (after work), poor weather days and holidays. You may wish to plan your visits accordingly.

Alcohol is not permitted in the Recreation Center, except during sanctioned/permitted events. Private instruction is not permitted in public facilities.

Couples/Families Couple and Family Passes can be purchased with One-Month, 6-Month and One Year Passes. Primary family member pays full adult rate, additional family members receives 25% off. Senior couples are not eligible for this discount.

Group Rates Save money when you come as a group! If your group has 20 or more people, call the Recreation Center to make your reservation at least two weeks in advance, and bring one total payment on the day you arrive (single check or credit card payment). St. Patty’s Dodgeball Tournament March 14 (Ages 18 & Up) $90/Team Ducking, dodging, hitting and throwing! The annual St. Patty's Dodgeball Tournament is an event that cannot be missed. Spend an evening with your friends or co-workers chasing and throwing dodgeballs in an unforgettable setting at the Recreation. The team captain is in charge of collecting a team roster that includes: player's names, email addresses, phone numbers and signed waivers. Last day to register will be Wednesday, March 13th @ 9 pm. Snowpitch Softball Tournament March 16 (Ages 18 & Up) $165/Team Come celebrate the St. Patty's Day shenanigans! The 2nd Annual Snowpitch Softball Tournament will be held on the fields at the Breckenridge Recreation Center and is open to the first ten teams to register. The double elimination tournament will run from 8am-5pm. Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams. Each team must have ten players with at least three girls. The tournament is sponsored by Burke & Riley's Irish Pub and Coors. Take on a different kind of challenge this winter with the 4th Annual Breckenridge Ascent Series, presented by Brecken-ridge Ski Resort and the Breckenridge Recreation Department. Join us for two early morning and three evening hill climb events . All races will start at the bottom of each races’ respec-tive base with a timing crew at the top of each course timing the event. Use any kind of way to get up the mountain, which means snowshoes, nordic skis or AT setups. Race divisions will be broken down into light weight and heavy weight set-ups. However, skis or a snowboard are required to come back down! Registration for the series ends on Tuesday, January 15th @ 9 pm. A Sports Waiver and Vail Resorts Events Waiver must be signed BEFORE the race begins.

Move it & Lose it 5K Run (11 & Up) Fudge, Apple Pie and Egg Nog.. What would the Holidays be without overindulging in sugary treats? This fun run is your chance to burn some calories and enjoy the beautiful scenery at the Breckenridge Gold Run Nordic Center! Each runner will get a commemorative piece for their race entry. Pre-registration end at noon on December 31st. Day of reg-istration will begin at 10am at the Gold Run Nordic Center on January 1st. Pre-registration is available for $25 for adults & $15 for kids 11 - 17. Day of registration will be an additional $5.

CPR/AED/First Aid Lay Responder Certification Class (Ages 16 & Up) $70 American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for Lay Responder. This American Red Cross course offers Cardiopulmonary Resus-citation (CPR) techniques used on adults, infants and children. It also teaches how to respond to injuries and sudden illness in a systematic manner. The first two nights cover CPR/AED and the third covers first aid. Inner Tube Water Polo (Ages 18 & Up) $180/team This league combines the fast pace of water polo with the unique skill of floating down a river. The rules for water polo are modified to create a team sport that is fun for the recreational athlete. Games last 45min, for a total of 5 games. Co-ed teams must contain at least 2 women as part of the 6 players on a team in the water at all times. This class requires a registration form be completed. There needs to be a minimum of 4 teams for the league to run. All equipment is provided. Championship team will receive customized champion t-shirts! Private Swim lessons (Ages 2 1/2 - Adult)

Do you need help strengthening swimming skills? If group lessons don't quite fit into your scheduling needs, private lessons can offer a solution. Private lessons are designed to provide one on one instruction for all ages and levels of swimming. Do you wish to have a lesson exclusively for you and your friends, or your family and friends? We also offer semi-private swim lessons for small groups of swimmers. Our swimming instructors and coaches will work with groups up to 3 swimmers of similar levels and abilities to improve swimming in a fun and comfortable environment. Swim lesson punch passes are available in 1, 3 or 5 punches. All lessons are scheduled by appointment only. 14 Aquatics - Youth Breck Rec Swim Club- Wednesdays (Ages 5-13) $40/session Come join the Breck Rec Swim Club! The Swim Club is designed for participants who can't quite commit to the Swim Team schedule, but desire the same level of instruction. The club meets on Wednesday evenings from 4:35pm to 5:35pm. Coach Larken Petardi will work with you on your competitive swimming skills. Goals of the club are to focus on stroke technique and endurance. Take your swimming to the next level! The Brecken-ridge Swim Team focuses on progressing as a com-petitive swimmer while having fun working with team members and coaches to improve all four swim strokes (freestyle, back, breast and butterfly). Swim-mers will learn competitive racing skills such as turn-ing, relay racing, and diving while improving endur-ance in the water. Youth Learn to Swim Level 3 & 4 (Ages 5-10) What Happens in Learn-to-Swim Saturday Session 3 & 4? For every level of Learn-to-swim, our instructors follow a plan to introduce new swimming and water safety skills and build on previously learned skills. Each class is loaded with fun, engaging, and challenging activities that motivate children to want to perform and learn to swim. Some of the milestones are necessary for successful completion of Level 3 and Level 4 are: Jumping into deep water from the side - Swimming

Do you or your child need some assistance to help develop swimming skills? If group lessons don't quite fit into your needs, private lessons can offer a solution. Private lessons are designed to provide one on one instruction for all ages and levels of swimming. Do you wish to have a lesson exclusively for you and your friends, or your family and friends? We also offer semi-private swim lessons for small groups of swimmers. Our swimming instructors and coaches will work groups up to 3 swimmers of similar levels and abilities to improve swimming in a fun and comfortable environment. Swim lesson punch passes are available in 1, 3 or 5 punches. All lessons are scheduled by appointment only. Monday Adventure Club (Ages 6-9) $15/program The Outdoor Recreation and Education team are offering a new version of Monday Adventure Club. Each day, we will venture into the snowy wilds to explore, learn about our natural world, learn new skills, make friends and have fun!! Snow shoes will be provided as well as transportation from the Recreation Center to our adventurous location. We will be outside, please dress appropriately for being outside in snow. A backpack, snack and water bottle are highly recommended. January 28th: Night Hike In this program we will do sensory awareness activities to teach kids to better use their night vision and other senses which will help them to be more comfortable in the dark. We will also play games and learn about the special adapta-tions of nocturnal animals. *No need for flashlights! February 11: Outdoor Winter Survival Our ‘Outdoor Winter Survival’ program will teach kids about our basic needs for survival, with a focus on winter. Kids will get an oppor-tunity to build a shelter using their surroundings and orient themselves using a map and com-pass. March 4th: Animal Signs & Tracking In this exciting program we will learn all of the different animal sign categories and go out and try to find as many signs as we can, keeping track of them in a journal. March 25th: Predator/Prey Participants will learn about the food web and population dynamics by becoming ‘predators and prey’ while playing a fun and interactive game. April 8th: Breckenridge History We’re going back in time to learn about Breckenridge history including Utes, Mountain Men and Miners. We’ll put ourselves in the shoes of the people who were here before us and discover ways that they lived without all the modern conveniences. April 22nd: Tree Friends Get to know the forest! Kids will learn to iden-tify different tree species and play games that use our different senses. This program will also touch on fire ecology and how it affects our lo-cal area.

DMM Wilderness First Aid Class (18 & up) $175 The Breckenridge Recreation Center and Desert Mountain Medicine team up to

offer you a chance to become certified in Wilderness First Aid. This course is a great introduction to wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. It is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast who wants more than what an urban first aid course provides. Important details for all leagues: Participants in program are required to be active

members of the US Lacrosse Association. Rental gear will be available for an additional $30;

Please complete a Youth Sports waiver BEFORE the start of the program.

Transportation is not provided by the Recreation Department to the games in Denver. All participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from Denver.

There will be a mandatory parents meeting on Wednesday, January 9th from 6-7:30pm at the Breckenridge Recreation Center!

Participants must be registered into the program by 9 pm on Wednesday, February 20th to be guaranteed a spot on the team.

No practices April 15 - 19. All participants should come prepared with

appropriate clothing to play either inside or outside, dependent on the weather and need to bring the following: water, snack, indoor gym shoes, stick, helmet, pads mouth guard.

Breckenridge Mountain Camp (Ages 5-12) Don't sit around bored after school! NEW this year to BMC, Mondays are now devoted to science & math experiments! Each day, your child will enjoy a healthy snack (we will provide) and activities that are designed to give your child more structure to the after-school day! Programs will include homework help, swimming, climbing, gym games and arts & crafts. We are a State Licensed program and have transportation to the Rec Center each day provided by Summit County school buses. Campers from Upper Blue Elementary will board the UB-B bus and campers from Breckenridge Elementary will board the BR-B bus. Staff will be on-site at each school to check in campers and to ride on the bus back to the Rec Center. All campers must have a full BMC Camper Packet filled out to participate in this program. Packets are available at the front desk of the Recreation Center.

Afterschool Lacrosse (Ages 6-12) $90 Has your child been participating in our after school and learn to play lacrosse programs? If they want to stay involved in the sport, this program is right up their ally! The goal of this 9 week program is to continue developing lacrosse skills and instilling confidence in the participants. If we can develop this group into a 'team' we will enroll the players in a tournament in Denver at the end of the season! (Dependent upon participant numbers and parent interest) Open to Summit County boys and girls & equipment will be available for rental. Celtic Steps - Afterschool (Ages 7-14) $110 Irish step dancing combines the entrancing rhythms of traditional Celtic music with the grace and energy of dance. Instruction centers on the fundamentals of traditional Irish dance — timing, body position and footwork. Students work to achieve these fundamentals as they learn the basic steps, then progress to learn beginner reel, light jig, and slip jig steps. Building confidence, social, and team skills, students learn to dance in teams of two, three, four, six, and eight and sixteen. Bearly Big Childcare The Bearly Big Childcare Center is a service intended to provide childcare for Recreation Center guests who would like to use the Breckenridge Recreation Center facilities and programs (parents must remain on-site). Childcare is provided for children ages 2 months through 6 years of age. Children may participate in Bearly Big for a maximum of two hours. Children under 1 year may only stay in Bearly Big for 1 hour maximum. Reservations must be made no later than 8:00 AM that day in order to secure a same day reservation. Hockey Mini Mites (Ages 3-7) $100

Just because you're mini, doesn't mean you can't play hockey! Get a head start on the sport! This class is for the beginner hockey player (ages 7 and under). If your child has never skated before, we recommend enrolling him/her in our Tots Breck Skating School class (available Tuesdays or Fridays) before participating in this class because skating skills are REQUIRED for Mini Mites. Sign up for our Adult Skating Skills Class and you'll receive skating instruction from one of our certified instructors. Breckenridge Gold Run Nordic Center is a world-class venue featuring a diverse, impeccably groomed trail system surrounding a breathtaking Nordic Center day lodge. Twenty two kilometers of groomed ski trails and a network of snowshoe and backcountry touring trails comprise the trail system, which winds across and up historic Delaware Flats and the Gold Run Valley north of Breckenridge. Ideal beginner terrain for learning, expansive mountain views and a fun mix of trails for all abilities provide a mountain experience you will never forget. The Gold Run Nordic Center Day Lodge (Breckenridge Golf Course in summer) is where you will find our friendly and professional Nordic staff, a full service Nordic retail and rental shop, and room to relax in a beautiful mountain lodge. We are a PSIA Certified Ski School and a Rossignol Demo Center. Other services at Gold Run include the Clubhouse Restaurant, an ice skating pond and an indoor heated wax room. The Gold Run Nordic Center will open for the 2012-2013 winter season in early December, weather permitting.

Snowshoe Adventures with a Guide: Dry Gulch (Ages 3 & Up) $100 This is a wilderness experience showcasing a renovated mining camp along with open meadows, forests and scenic mountain views of the Ten Mile, Gore and Williams Forks Ranges. Skijoring Workshop (10 & Up) $40 Join Louisa Morrissey with Skijor-N-More to learn the sport with your best bud on four legs. The basic intro will cover dog breeds, harness fits, pulling techniques as well as snow and weather factors. Learn about how to keep your dog healthy and happy with this team sport. Start off the right way, in a controlled environment, on groomed trails, then take your skills to the popular front/backcountry Summit County Trailheads. Participants must be able to cross country ski 5km over an hour and be comfortable stopping and changing directions. Lessons are available at Gold Run to prepare. 49 Bill Koch Youth Ski League

Bill Koch Youth Ski League (Ages 5 -14) $60 An introductory Cross Country Ski program for youth 5 to 14 years old. The program will introduce the different disciplines of cross country skiing. Non-intimidating races will be available for all participants and their families. The participants will also have the opportunity to meet and ski with the Summit Nordic Middle and High School Ski Teams. Rental Equip-ment and Trail Pass are included in fee. This program is run in conjunction with the Summit Nordic Ski Club Program. The registration fee includes Summit Nordic Ski Club Member-ship. Meet in Nordic Center Wax Room.
