He began working with HMC twelve years ago as an outside sales representative. Four years ago Martin purchased the company from retiring owner Mr. Bob Hart. Martin was U.S. Sensor's Sales Representative of the Year in 1999. In 2001, we presented HMC with a Five Year Award commemorating their outstanding sales achievement and commitment to U.S. Sensor's growth. Martin met his wife Marcia during his college years at Dominguez Hills where he graduated with an MBA. Marcia is a third grade teacher in Ventura County and they have one son, Chris, who is in high school. Martin and Marcia are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this year. Congratulations! Martin enjoys listening to jazz and contemporary music, with Johnny Mathis being one of his favorite performers. During the rare times that he gets away from business, he and his family like to relax and unwind at their cabin in Lake Tahoe where he enjoys fishing with his son. Martin's knowledge of our products and capabilities as well as his management of the HMC sales force has resulted in outstanding sales growth in his territory year after year. He is always on the look out for new business for U.S. Sensor. Whether it's a trade show Martin is attending or a magazine he is looking through, if there is a sales potential for U.S. Sensor, we always get the necessary information...even if it is not in his territory. His work ethic, professionalism and commitment to customer service is unparalleled. We are proud to have Martin and HMC on our sales team. In the last issue of UNSENSORED, wecovered the Thermal Time Constant. Inreview, the Thermal Time Constant is thetime required for the thermistor to change63.2% of the total difference between itsinitial and final body temperature whensubjected to a step function in temperature

under zero power conditions.Let's take a look at Maximum OperatingTemperature. This is the maximum bodytemperature at which the thermistor is de-signed to operate for extended periods oftime with acceptable stability of its elec-trical characteristics. The Maximum Power Rating, usually ex-pressed at an ambient temperature of 25o

C, is the maximum power that a thermistorwill dissipate for an extended period oftime with acceptable stability of its char-acteristics. The Maximum Power Ratingwill be derated for temperatures above 25o

C to insure that the Maximum OperatingTemperature is not exceeded due to "selfheating" of the thermistor. Both the Maximum Operating Tempera-ture and the Maximum Power Rating must

be considered when designing a ther-mistor circuit. In temperature sensingapplications, the current is minimizedto virtually eliminate any self heating. Therefore, only the Maximum Oper-ating Temperature need be considered. In liquid level detection applications,it is very important to consider both theMaximum Power Rating and the Maxi-mum Operating Temperature in boththe presence and absence of the liquid. In any case, exceeding either of thesespecifications can affect the electricalcharacteristics and/or the Stability ofthe thermistor. In the next issue we willexamine Stability and Long Term Ag-ing Characteristics of U.S. Sensor ther-mistors.

U.S. Sensor application engineers have many years of experi-ence designing temperature assemblies suited for use in Pool,Spa and Solar Controls. Unique environmental conditionspresent in Pool, Spa and Solar applications demand precisionthermistor probe assemblies that can withstand high humidity, continuous thermal cycling and mechanical vibration in waterand air temperature measurements. The sensor assembliesbest suited for a given application may be constructed usingstainless steel, brass or plastic housings. Our line of sensorshave been time tested and are used throughout the industry.U.S. Sensor application engineers are available to assist you inselecting the most appropriate assembly for your application.

To accommodate higher temperature applications, U.S.Sensor now offers Platinum Resistance TemperatureDetectors (RTD’s). RTD’s are capable of withstandingtemperatures ranging from -50o C to over +500o C thusopening the door to a broader range of applications forU.S. Sensor. They offer excellent stability and accuracyover wide temperature ranges and can withstand extremeenvironmental conditions. U.S. Sensor can supply the RTDelements or we can assemble them into various probeconfigurations for specific applications. Our website,www.ussensor.com, has all the information on our new lineof RTD’s as well as up-to-date information on all of ourThermistors, Probes and Assemblies. Check it out!
