NWBA RECEIVES 2014 SPORTSTRAVELAWARD
Colorado Springs, CO- November 17, 2014- The NWBA is proud to announce that it is the
recipient of the 2014 SportsTravelAward, Best Amateur Single- Sport Event, for the 2014 National
Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. The tournament featured teams
from around the country and consisted of a Championship, Division III, Womens, Junior 10 and a
Junior Prep Division Championship Game. The event also included an Armed Services Salute
Game and a sponsored Juniors-only shoot out. Many Louisville celebrities including TV
personalities, sports anchors and the mayor of Louisville attended and participated in the weekend
long event. Over 1,000 athletes on over 80 teams competed non-stop, at the Kentucky
Championships. Aside from the Paralympic Games, the NWBA National Tournament is the largest
disabled sporting event in the world.
The SportsTravelAwards program bestows honors at the amateur, collegiate and professional levels
Criteria for nomination and voting included superior organization of and attendance at the event, a
superior experience for the competitors and/or spectators at the event and how the site or venue serv
to enhance the event. The Championships event was voted by the readers of SportsTravel and
recognized by peers as the winner for the amateur single-sport event in the sports-event industry.Events such as this one are a prime example of the achievement of excellence in the organization a
management of sporting events, said Timothy Schneider, publisher of SportsTravelmagazine, which
organizes the TEAMS Conference & Expo. SportsTravelreaders are the leaders of the sports-event
industry and they know what it takes to execute a high-quality event. The SportsTravelAwards progr
is an opportunity for them to honor their peers for a job well done.
Past winners of SportsTravelAwards have included 2012 Olympic Summer Games, 2012 Army-Navy
Football Game, the 2013 NBA Finals and the 2012 Ryder Cup. Last years winner for the Best Amate
Single Sport Event was awarded to the 2013 Sandy Hook Run for the Families in Hartford, CT. The
NWBA is proud and excited to be recognized alongside such significant events. "It was an honor to brecognized alongside the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 2014 NCAA Men's Division 1 National Basketba
Championships, the 2014 Boston Marathon and the great 2013 Iron Bowl. The NWBA Board and staf
would like to thank our players and coaches, the local organizing committee and the city of Louisville
who made this award possible. We also would like to thank Tim Schneider, Publisher of SportsTrave

ABOUT NWBA:
Founded in 1948 by American WWII veterans, the National Wheelchair Basketball
Association is recognized by the USOC as the official governing body for wheelchair
basketball in the United States. The NWBA provides qualified individuals with physical
disabilities the opportunity to play, learn and compete in the sport of wheelchair basketball. It

is the oldest and largest DSO (Disabled Sports Organization) and is the only paralympic
sport organization that is able to offer college scholarships for its athletes. The NWBA is
comprised of over 2700 members that make up the mens, womens, intercollegiate and
youth teams which span across twenty-two conferences and seven divisions. The NWBA is
a nonprofit (501c), charitable organization recognized by US Congress and the American
member of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF).
