Sports publicists use the normal tools of Public Relations such as

• Media Kits• Statistics• Interviews• Television Appearances• They distribute information

College Publicists

• Creating enthusiasm among alumni and making the school look glamorous and exciting for high-school students.

• Seek to arouse public interest in teams and players. Sell tickets to games, and publicize their corporate sponsors.

Professional Publicists

• Also promote ticket sales, teams and players, publicize their corporate sponsors.

• They also to make teams appear to be hometown representatives of civic pride, not only athletes for high salaries.

Two important Areas:

• Crisis management • Sponsorship managements

Management of sports sponsorships has become systematic and deliberate

For example: Edelman Event and Sponsorship marketing uses its “M.U.S.T.ystem” to evaluate sponsorships.

The acronym means:• Media appeal• User friendliness• Sales appeal• Thematic applications• Special event potential

Phases of travel promotion

Traditionally, the practice of travel public relations has involved three steps:

1. Stimulating the public’s desire to visit a place2. Arranging for the travelers to reach it3. Making certain that visitors are comfortable,

well treated, and entertained when they get there

Fear of terrorism

Appeals to Target Audiences

• Examples: Great Britain's skillfully designed publicity in the United Sates. Its basic appeal is an invitation to visit the country's historic places and pageants. They also offer:– London Theatrical tours– Golf expeditions to famous courses in Scotland– Genealogical research parties for those seeking family

root.– Tours of Cathedrals*Special Tours can also be arranged.

Packaging• Packaging- is a key word in travel

public relations. A package usually consists of a

prepaid arrangement for transportation, housing, meals, and entertainments with a professional escort to handle the details.

Several packages can be:Cruises for family reunions, or school

groups, family skiing vacations, university alumni study groups, archaeological expeditions.

Appeals To Seniors

The largest special travel audience of all is older citizens. Why:• They have time to travel• They have money to do so• Hotel, airlines offer discounts to attract them.Facts: 1. A large percentage of cruise passengers, especially on longer

trips are retirees.2. Travel promoters design trips with seniors in mind including

activities with appeal to older persons

Time of Crisis

• An example: The spate of attacks against Florida routes in the early 1990’s.
