If you ever drive through Franklin, Tennessee, you're bound to see a building that will turn your head. Aold industrial plant, it was once the proud home of Dortch Stove Works. In its day, it was the most modestove plant in America! But modern became old, old became vacant, and vacant became decayed. In fact

sat idle for years, falling into such disrepair that, when Calvin Lehew purchased it, people laughed. Undaunted, Lehew, a mwith both vision and gumption, worked tirelessly to give the building new life and purpose. Today, the space is abuzz w

fine restaurants, unique stores, an art gallery, a theater, and even an animal rescue shelter. This one-of-a-kind complex is apnamedThe Factory. What Calvin Lehew did was take an old, beat-up factory that had presumably seen its best days arestoreit; though its outer shell looks much the same, its interior is completely new.

We all know the stress and strain of modern life and its deleterious effects on the soul. Pay enough tuition in the School Hard Knocks and your soul can become just like that old industrial plant in Franklin - empty, tired, beat-up, run down, evruined. Wouldn't it be great if each of us had our own Calvin Lehew? Though our outer shell might look the same, wouldn'be great for our interior to be made new? In a word, wouldn't it be great to berestored?

Special small groups present in the church aim to do just that - restore folks to who they are meant to be in Jesus ChriThey're a part of an outreach ministry of the Y.M.C.A. called Restoreand they meet at the church on Thursday night. Thesmall groups are "intimate communities of hope and healing" in which folks can find help for all sorts of ailments of the sou

anxiety, grief, relational stress, self-esteem issues, hopelessness, and more. InRestore, the fellowship is deep, the teachingpowerful, and the change is lasting.

Don't believe me? Perhaps it's best to hear from some of the church members involved inRestore. Says one: "Participatiin a Restore Ministries small group helped to set in motion for me a spiritual rebirth and ever-deepening journey with oliving, loving God. If your soul is seeking change or searching for more, I challenge you to step into aJ ourney to Freedosmall group!" Says another: "Restore classes have given me the ability to better understand where my feelings are comifrom and to distinguish my feelings from how I act. These skills are great for communication with my spouse and otherFinally, Rich Sanderson, who serves on the board ofRestore, says, "There are so many in need who simply do not realize homuch better their lives can be. Restoresmall groups allow us to realize that we are not alone. Restorecan be the answer fmany."

Curious? GiveRestorea try! What's there to lose? These short-term small groups only last a season, but the benefits laslifetime. For more information, contact the Green Hills Y.M.C.A., Rich Sanderson, or me. Who knows? You may be just ostep away from realizing the promise of Jeremiah 30:17 - "They have called you an outcast: 'It is Zion, for whom no ocares!' But I, the Lord, will heal your wounds andrestoreyou to health."

Singing is simply an extension of speech. What I mean by that is this. If you take anysyllable and extend it for a few seconds, it

results in a discernible pitch. Try it. It may sound a littlestrange, but you'll get the point. In a sense, it is taking a

normal part of our lives- speaking, and stretching it intosomething special- singing.

Lots of instruments started with humble beginnings andevolved (stretched, if you will) to become the modern dayinstruments with which we are most familiar. Valves onbrass instruments, e.g., enabled players to extend the tubingalternatives that allow instrumentalists a greater variety ofnotes. Piano resonance grew leaps and bounds when the castiron harp (frame) allowed longer strings in the bass.

Often in life, it is the art of stretching a little outside

our comfort zones that makes a difference in others' lives.

Extending our reach to include the marginalized, tunpopular, the disenfranchised, can not only help others, balso aid us in our own Christian growth.

We Woodmonters are now in our yearly stewardsh

campaign. Take some time to prayerfully consider yo"norm" and see if you can extend your giving to honor Gand continue the wonderful ministries of Woodmont ChristChurch. It will, most likely, result in harmonious music fall.

Lord, help us to extend ourselvesto those that can use our help.

The day for building your walls will come, the day fextending your boundaries. Micah 7:11
