Speaking

-To motivate Ss by giving the reason for speaking-to activate prior knowledge-to anticipate difficulties

Now we are going to our favourite Disneyland. But you won’t go alone you’ll go with your friends. You will have to decide which attractions you are going to visit. But before that on your desks you see “language support boxes” which help you make the conversation sound natural. Exmine them please.

Now (Olga, Inna…) with the help of which phrases can you make suggestions? ( etc the T checks the understanding of the phrases) How can you agree/disagree?

All of you will be given special role cards, don’t show it to anybody. You will have to discuss in a group of 4 which attractions you are going to visit in Disneyland. (T hands out the cards)Now you’ll have 3 minutes to prepare for the role on your own, revising the text

What do you think the result of your activity will be?

Ss examine the cards

Ss answer T’s questionsS1:We can make suggestions saying :”What about…Why don’t we…”S2: We can also say”What about…” etcS3: I can say “I’m not sure about that” if I disagree…etc

Ss read the cards, prepare for the roles on their own, revising the text

Ss answer:

Now each group choose the leader who will report on the results of your activity. Start your conversation, you’ll have 4 minutes to come to agreement( the T walks around, listens, making notes of mistakes)

T asks the leaders to report

We will choose one attraction…We will come to agreement…Each of us will go alone…

Ss choose the leader and start the discussion. Then come to the conclusion

The leaders report in front of the class

ROLE PLAYGROUP 1Student 1.Start the conversation . Ask your friends about the attractions they would like to visit. Resist going to a Haunted castle.

Student 2.You are the second to speak. You want to go for a Magnificent Falls log ride because you’re the oldest one and the attraction is the most exciting. When your friend tries to persuade you to go to a Haunted Castle you should agree giving some argument( it will be funny to frighten Student 1 but of course don’t tell him about it)

Student 3.Your mother won’t allow you to have a Magnificent Falls log ride , that’s why you suggest taking Funny Barges (don’t confess about the mother because it’s a shame for you but give some other reasonable argument). When your friend tries to persuade you to go to a Haunted Castle you should agree giving some argument ( it will be funny to frighten Student 1 but of course don’t tell him about it)

Student 4.You are eager to frighten your friend who started the conver4sation in a Haunted Castle. Try to persuade your two other friends to go to a Haunted Castle.

GROUP 2

Student 1.Start the conversation. Your parents make you take your little brother to a Ghost Rider wooden coaster. But you consider it to be shameful and don’t tell your partners giving some other argument. When offered to go to a Haunted Castle think about your brother once again

Student 2.You find it childish to go for a Ghost Rider wooden coaster but don’t want to offend your friend. Suggest going to Fighting Giant hanging coasters and give an argument.

Student 3.Agree to go to Fighting Giant hanging coasters and offer to go to a Haunted Castle as well because you want to have real fun and your parents-millionaires gave you a great sum of money to spend

Student 4.You don’t have money to visit 2 attractions at once. Resist going to a Haunted Castle giving some other reasonable argument

GROUP 3Student 1

Page 4: Speaking class2

Start the conversation. You are a boy and want to look courageous. The only way to look so is to go to Fighting Giants Hanging coasters and Magnificent Falls log ride. But when suggested going to Funny Barges you should refuse. Remember that you love your girlfriend who wants to Magic CarouselStudent 2 You are the girlfriend of the boy who started the talk. You are dressed in a very short skirt and high-heeled shoes but ashamed to confess your friends about being uncomfortable. Suggest going to Magic Carousel. If offered to go to Funny Barges agree

Student 3You are a boy. You don’t want to go to Magic Carousel and find it blunt. But you don’t have enough money to go to Fighting Giants Hanging coasters and Magnificent Falls log ride. So you suggest visiting cheap Funny Barges

Student 4You are totally in love with the boy who advised taking Fighting Giants Hanging coasters and Magnificent Falls log ride despite the fact you date with the one offering Funny Barges. So you try to get rid of your boyfriend and persuade his friend to take you with him
