Is It Time to Re{consider} Social

Media?

Social media for work competencies in Cooperative Extension

How many of you would consider social media and online presence as:

A necessary work competency for AgriLife Extension

A critical work competency for AgriLife Extension

An optional work competency for AgriLife Extension

At one time, everyone knew the Extension agents.

Seen as responsive (home & farm visits).

Known as the link to the land grants (research and undergraduate).

Was one of the few people in the community with a college degree.

Shared research findings.

What’s different?

The three program areas that I focus on are1.) Diabetes awareness – over 1 in 4 adults have characteristics that are precursors to adult onset diabetes. 2.) I have several programs that you can get involved with to Help manage and move toward a healthy lifestyle• Be Well Awesome• Healthy Eating on a Budget3.) Hundreds of things we do in Cooperative Extension that very few people get to EVER see or do

Share• Make sure your website is one of your best resources

• You have the MOST control here• Marketing/SEO is built in to AgriLife’s marketing

• Consider the engagement continuum• After an event where are the resources you provided?

• Share everywhere• Post slides to Slideshare• Post publications to Facebook, Twitter, blog, ect…

• Consider the value of sharing versus hording
