Child Care Maryellen Homan During the month of October, the Child

Care classes concentrated on children’s

health, safety, and how to deal with emer-

gency responses. They learned ways to

limit contagious diseases, how to handle

and report illnesses, and examined ways to

ensure children’s health and safety as well

as their own. Students also learned how to

treat minor injuries and how to respond to

more serious injuries. After the course, they

became certified in Pediatric First Aide and

CPR through training provided by Cary

Wertz, RN and EMT instructor at SRCTC.

The teens are especially mindful of

health and safety issues as they gain more

hands-on experiences working with a vari-

ety of ages of children through opportunities made available to them during

the Gearing Up for Kindergar-

ten program. Safety and fun

came together at Halloween

time. The students worked to-

gether to create cute invitations

and plan fun and not-too-scary

Halloween parties for the three

Kindergarten classes at OES. A

darkened story cave, tattoo par-

lor, relay games and creepy eats

were among the festivities.

What a spook-tacular time!
