Box 927 Plymouth, MA 02362 South Plymouth Grows at Redbrook Our November 30, 2015 meeting was held in the Meeting House at the real estate development Redbrook in southwest Plymouth near South Elementary school. Tom Berkley, Vice President and Project Director for the A. D. Makepeace Companies, gave us a brief overview of the Redbrook development, originally called River Run. Eventually there will be 1200 homes built on 400 acres of the development. Some 1300 acres will be set aside as woodlands and other open space with many unpaved nature trails and paved hiking trails suitable for cyclists as well as hikers. A variety of commercial buildings with retail space will be erected around the village green. Our primary speaker was the executive director of the YMCA, Derek Paiva. He announced that the grand opening of the Y will take place on Saturday, December 12. beginning at 9:30 am. He stated that there would be a visit by Santa and that Plymouth South High School Band would perform. He went on to explain that the Y is already being well used by families in that area of Plymouth, as well as by families living nearby in East Wareham. The Y provides programs for people of all ages, preschool programs and after-school programs for grade schoolers, ‘tweens, and teenagers. There are tai-chi, yoga, and zumba classes which attract seniors. The Old Colony YMCA also runs Camp Clark in the summer on Hedges Pond Road. After his presentation in the Meetinghouse, he took Club members on a tour of the facilities and showed off the up-to-date exercising equipment and the various rooms for group activities. He also explained that they will be running another fund raising drive to build the second phase of the plant. This will include a swimming pool and basketball court. Home buyers will have 10 different floor plans to choose from. The homes will range in price from about $375,000 to $500,000. Announcements Patti Ryan announced that 58 had signed up for the December 11 Holiday Party, and announced that late deciders can come if they contact her first and soon. The Club will provide bell ringers for the Salvation Army outside Macy’s on December 19. A sign-up sheet was circulated. Donna Ouellette announced that Dennis Carman would like some members to help him assemble auction packets on Friday, December 4 at 3 pm at the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.
