Implant dentistry has become more advanced in the last few years. Patients have been exposed to a comprehensive education on implant dentistry which allows them to make the best decision for their treatment. Clinicians and their staff have also been exposed to better patient care by offering more treatment options, and simple patient appointments which translate into a higher patient acceptance rate. The problem remains

that the average case acceptance rate in the US remains under 66%. My goal is to help the restorative/surgical team raise this significantly.

This series will provide information on how to treatment plan effectively by offering the restorative options that apply to each patients care. It is designed to build confidence for you and your team while developing proficiency with implant cases. Single, multiple unit and edentulous cases will be discussed so that the optimal aesthetic result can be delivered. Be prepared to present patient cases. By presenting cases, the group will be able to understand the step-by-step process of treatment planning, patient understanding and case acceptance.

Speaker: Dr. Bruce Ouellette

September 9th , 2016 Session 1: Delivering Comprehensive Case Presentations 8:30am to 4:30pm

7 CE Credits This session is geared to the entire office, from front desk to hygiene and assistants. Fabricating a treatment plan is not always the problem, getting the patient to accept it and fit it within their specific limitations, is often the challenge.

During this session, I will show a synchronized method and philosophy on how to gather both clinical and non-clinical information necessary to develop a patient

specific comprehensive treatment plan to achieve greater case acceptance. We will cover what systems and verbiage the team can use, how to work up a patient specific case, how to develop a comprehensive treatment plan as a team with the surgeon and present that treatment plan to the patient. Although you, the dentist and surgeon, decide on the treatment options, remember that our dental team plays a major role on our case acceptance and therefore are strongly urged to attend. November 11th, 2016 Session 2: Phasing Dentistry; An Extended Plan For Complete Dental Care 8:30am to 4:30pm

7 CE Credits This lecture serves a natural flow after session 1. Our goal as care givers is to provide the comprehensive treatment plan in such a way as to allow the patient to fit it into their

lives financially as well as in a time frame that fits their individual needs. Unfortunately patients cannot afford to do all the work they need to right away and need to spread the work out.

We will demonstrate how to divide the patient specific comprehensive treatment plan into a systematic approach for optimal dental care. This session will show a sequencing of care that will detail what to do first, second and third etc. We will discuss the importance of long term vs. short term temporaries; which quadrants should we restore first, second, etc.; when do we proceed with surgery; how do we buy time occlusally between phases until the patient is ready to proceed, etc.

January 27th, 2017 Session 3: Diagnosing and Treating Peri-Implantitis 8:30am to 4:30pm

7 CE Credits This session is geared to the restorative dentist and their hygiene team. As we all know, peri-Implantitis is among the top reasons that patients have long term failures of implants.

We will discuss the incidence, prevalence and etiology of peri-impantitis as well as the diagnosis, prevention and treatment. An in depth hygiene protocol that we need to instill in our restorative practices to prevent and treat

peri-implantitis will also be reviewed. Topics such as; when and how often do we radiograph; is it appropriate to probe around implants; what instruments are best for maintenance care and treatment, are air/powder jets okay and if so which ones; how often do we remove a fixed hybrid; are screw retained restorations better then cement retained; what cements are best for cementing implant crowns, etc.

Session 4: Splint Therapy For The Implant Practice 8:30am to 4:30pm

7 CE Credits Inappropriate occlusion on implants has been reported as a major cause for long term failure of dental implants. “Mouthguards” are often given at the end of implant treatment without any particular thought to design or material other then to place a plastic medium between the arches in event that the patient is a bruxer.

This session will delve into the topic of occlusion, defining the different types of splints and guards, review the different uses of splints in the implant restorative practice and how they are more then just “mouthguards”. We will review the use of splints as diagnostic guides, establishing the proper joint position for treatment, eliminating of TMD symptoms prior to treatment as well as post treatment applications of splints. Time will also be spent on TMJ disorders, joint classifications (which are comfortable to restore and which are not), anterior deprogrammers (as a diagnostic tool or as a treatment modality), CR vs. CO, different methods to take a CR registration, how to establish a proper joint position for treatment, which occlusal scheme should we use when treating our implant patient, how do we transfer this information to a dental laboratory, etc.
