• Revised path preview with waypoint relocation. In cursor mode, the LINE EDITOR displays two copies of the currently loaded line file: the original and an editable version. The editable version includes the waypoints and arrows indicating the direction of each line. When you use the cursor to drag a waypoint to a new position, the interface shows the original and modified path. When your modifications are complete, return to the LINE EDITOR interface and save the modified file.

HARDWARE• Save and restore all HARDWARE settings with one file: FILE-EXPORT-ALL

SPREADSHEET CONFIGURATION

Choose the displayed properties by selecting and deselecting them in the Columns menu. A Select dialog enables you to more easily configure multiple columns: Items available are listed on the left, while items selected are listed to the right. Select items in either column then use the [Add=>] and [<=Remove] to include or omit them from your spreadsheet display...

NOTE: The list of items available is maintained in alphabetical order. The list of items selected shows the order that the columns will be displayed in the spreadsheet. Normally, they will be listed in the order that they are selected. To reorder the selected items, use the cursor to drag and drop items in the list.

IMPROVED SYMBOL HANDLING

The Recent Symbols feature menu keeps track of the ten most recently used symbols. so those common items are always just a click away. There are multiple methods to access the Recent Symbols menu:• In the main menu• Right-click on the Symbol area in the Details tab• Right-click in the Symbol column on the Spreadsheet tab.This also works with Spreadsheet multi-selection. If you select a block of targets and assign a recent symbol, it will apply to the entire selection at once.

DIFFERENCE TOOL

The Difference routine compares the target database (targets.db) from the current project with a second target database. For example, you can compare targets in your project between your survey and office computers, or historical and current target data. The routine compares the targets by name, position or both. Each target (row) is color-coded based on how it compares to those in the project targets:

You can then, optionally, import targets from the second file based on how they compare to the first. The imported targets are copied to the Default target group.

DATA ACQUISITION

SURVEY OR DREDGEPACK®

SIMULTANEOUS REAL-TIME AUTO-MATRIX AND REAL-TIME MOSAIC DISPLAYS

We introduced the auto-matrix technology in HYPACK® 2016. (Available in HYPACK® SURVEY only; not DREDGEPACK®)Auto-matrix logs hydrographic or topographic matrix data to a binary data file, as it draws previews of matrix files, for each data type, in your Survey Map window according to the user-defined options. When you close the SURVEY program, HYPACK® generates the matrix files to fit your survey data.Real-time Mosaic (aka Side Scan Matrix) for side scan data works using a similar technology, but when SURVEY closes, HYPACK® uses the binary data to generate geo-TIF mosaic files. (Notice the default cell size in the Side Scan Matrix configuration settings is much smaller to improve the resolution of the resulting mosaic.)

In HYPACK® 2017, we have expanded on this technology:• Use auto-matrix to simultaneously draw and log one or more of the supported data

types: multibeam (bathymetric or backscatter), topographic, and side scan data. FIGURE 13. Automatrix—

Figure 13 shows simultaneous auto-matrix displays of multibeam hydrographic data (500 cells/MTX generated while logging) and Topographic (100 cells/MTX generated regardless of logging status).

• Auto-matrix for side scan backscatter data, so now you can generate multibeam matrices from the backscatter together with the geo-TIF mosaic files from the side scan.

• Draw the multibeam and side scan data in separate Map windows through your selection in the MB_MTX drop-down in the Map window toolbar.

• Draw the multibeam and topographic data in separate Map windows through your selections in the Layer Manager for each display.

RANGE OPTIONS

Range options on the Area Map toolbar allow you to quickly scale the map display. Just select a range in the SURVEY or DREDGEPACK® toolbar. SURVEY or DREDGEPACK® automatically scales the selected Map window so the length of shortest side displays the selected real-world distance. Each subsequent window resize adjusts the scale accordingly, but any zoom action will cause the range to revert back to "None". The default values are 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 5000 survey units, but you can customize this list for your needs in each project:1. Select the Edit option from the Range drop-down list. A dialog appears with a list of

the current zoom ranges.2. Modify the list as needed and click [OK].FIGURE 14. Map Zoom Ranges—Default (left),

ANCHOR SWEEPS

An Anchor Sweep is the area defined by the anchor drop position, the anchor raise position, and the positions of the anchor attachment point over the time the anchor is deployed on the bottom. SURVEY or DREDGEPACK® stores all anchor sweep areas to an anchor sweep chart (Anchors.DG2) in the project folder. You can display the anchor sweep chart in the Map window and other programs that support DG2 charts.

COG VS HEADING DEVICE FUNCTION

Typically, HYPACK® SURVEY orients your boat shape according to heading data received from your sensor (GPS or compass) configured in HARDWARE with the heading function. If no driver is configured to read heading, HYPACK® SURVEY calculates the heading based on course over ground (COG).The Use COG for Heading option in the Vessel Setup dialog (VESSELS menu) enables you to ignore heading sensor data and use COG until you close HYPACK® SURVEY or deselect this option in the Vessel Setup dialog.If you check the Use COG checkbox when your heading device is enabled, a warning appears:

IMPORTANT! Each time you open HYPACK® SURVEY, the program automatically resets this option according to your HARDWARE configuration.

To permanently use course over ground and ignore your heading data, close your SURVEY programs, return to HARDWARE and deselect the Heading function.

MATRIX CONTROLS IN REMOTE VIEW

When there’s an active matrix in SURVEY, the remote view window provides a drop-down menu where you can change the value used to color-code your matrix display (average, min, max, etc.)

SONAR CONTROLS

• Standard side scan controls added to the SIDE SCAN SURVEY window. You can control your sonar settings from SIDE SCAN SURVEY. Device controls in the interface directly control sonar pinging, and can change the sonar range.

TARGETS

• Adjust the captured image display in the Targets dialog. When you double-click in the Side Scan Waterfall display to mark a target, the Targets dialog appears with several target properties and an image of the current waterfall display. The Percent of Swath option has the effect of zooming in to the target location. Less than 100% shows the specified portion of the side scan channel display centered over the target position.

NOTE:For display purposes only. The captured image always shows the full swath.

• Target Sharing: When you mark a target in SIDE SCAN SURVEY, the Share button in the Targets dialog sends an email or text message through your email account with the target coordinates and its associated image (if you captured one). This requires some initial configuration with email addresses and server settings.

• Targets generated with captured images. When you save JPG and geo-TIF screen captures of a user-defined area in the Side Scan Waterfall display, SIDE SCAN SURVEY generates a target centered in the defined area with a name matching the image file name.

HYSWEEP®• Automated Bluetooth download of SonTek CastAway CTD sound velocity data. The

HYSWEEP® routine converts the data to a HYPACK® Sound Velocity file (*.VEL) and to HYSWEEP® SURVEY, which writes the information to the headers of the raw (*HSX) data files. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5EmhE_korQ)

• Real-time Cloud Window:• Measure Tool: Click at two locations in the real-time cloud display. The status bar

displays the coordinates of the two locations and the distance between them.• New display options:

• Clip data above/below a user-defined channel file. If you choose to display the channel itself, it is translucent so to provide unobstructed viewing of the soundings.

• New color options:• By Intensity• By Depth and Intensity: Use depth colors to color the intensity values. When you

have points of equal depth, those with stronger intensity appear brighter, producing a 3-dimensional effect.

• WATER COLUMN PLAYBACK: Support for dual-head sonar.• 3D WATER COLUMN PLAYBACK: Click at two locations in the cloud display. After the

first click, gray line shows you the measured path until you click the second location, and the distance appears (in survey units) in the upper right corner of the screen.

ADCP IN SITUSound Velocity Calculation if the ADP file does not supply it. ADP files sometimes store data other than the sound velocity in the designated sound velocity field. If ADCP IN SITU finds a value outside of the expected sound velocity range (< 1300 m/s or > 1700 m/s), the program calculates sound velocity from salinity, temperature, & pressure inputs.

• Catalog List shows save status. When you load a catalog of data, the Catalog List shows which member files have previously been saved to the project Edit folder.

• Spreadsheet column configuration: In the Spreadsheet tab of the view, items available are listed on the left, while items selected are listed to the right. Select items in either column then use the [Add=>] and [<=Remove] to include or omit them from your spreadsheet display.

• Limiting your Mosaic:• In the Tracklines display, you can temporarily mark areas to be omitted from the

mosaic. Use your cursor to mark a rectangular area, then use the Hide Inside or Hide Outside icon to omit either portion of the data. To restore the hidden areas, use the green Show Imagery buttons in the same manner.

• Clipping track lines in the Track Lines window (Stage 1) omits the data from the output mosaics.

• Clipping side scan range to NOAA guidelines: For any towfish height below 8 percent of the range scale in use, the effective scanning range is defined to equal 12.5 times the towfish height.

• User-defined Tiles: You can manually define tiles, sizing and positioning them to suit your needs. This can be handy if, for example, you want to generate a higher resolution geo-TIF of isolated areas in your dataset.

• Warns you if the current output settings will overwrite files, which enables you to abort and change the output file name.

CLOUD• Targets: Mark selected soundings as targets that you can then display in any HYPACK®

program that supports them. CLOUD generates a target at each selected sounding position and stores it in the CLOUD target group. CLOUD targets are named "Cloud Depth".

• Golden Soundings: Use the sounding selection tools to select the soundings you want to mark then click the Golden Sounding icon. Golden soundings display as gold pixels.

• Support for third party point cloud data:• Reads and writes LAS/LAZ and pts formats. • Reads E57 point cloud files.

FILTERS

CLOUD provides filters with which you can reduce your data set. The filters you use depends on your data set and your goal in performing the reduction.BEWARE! Use these filters for point cloud display purposes only. Filtered data can not be used to calculate accurate volumes.• Minimum Depth and Maximum Depth removes

soundings shoaler and deeper than the user-defined levels, respectively. This can be used to remove data that is outside of a known depth range.

• Minimum Intensity and Maximum Intensity removes points of lesser and greater intensity than the user-defined levels, respectively.

• Reduce by Percentage and Limit to Number are used to mathematically reduce the file size by thinning the data:• Reduce by percentage thins the data by the

specified percentage of the total number of points.

• Limit to Number thins the data to the specified number of points remaining.

HIDE NEAR POINTS OPTION

Hide Near Points produces an effect similar to if you physically moved into the point cloud toward the designated cloud center. When you reach a high enough zoom scale, CLOUD removes the points closer to the edge of the point cloud allowing you to see objects in the center of the cloud more clearly. Without this option, all soundings remain in the display.In the following figure, the tree in the center foreground is removed from the display when the option is selected.

COLOR POINT CLOUD BASED ON GEO-TIF COLORS

You can apply the colors from a geo-TIF to the soundings or multibeam backscatter in CLOUD. Points beyond the geo-TIF image area will continue to be colored based on the project colors. You can save the results to a HYPACK® XYZ file or to an LAS format file for use in third-party point cloud programs.Each record in the XYZ output contains 6 or 7 values: X, Y, Z, intensity (if we have it), R, G, B; both have an XYZ extension. The LAS format includes fields for intensity and the new RGB color definition for each sounding.CLOUD can now color either of these output formats based on the RGB Colors from the geo-TIF, intensity (if the data was available), depth, or by file according to your selection in the drop-down list.FIGURE 25. SUB-BOTTOM PROCESSOR• Directly load EdgeTech JSF format.• Shows scale range. The labels always appear, in 10ms increments, on the right side of

the display. The Show Range Markers option in the Display tab toggles horizontal lines for each label.

• Use the scroll arrows to scroll horizontally through the line. [80%] and [100%] sets the amount of the acoustic rendering scrolled for each click.

• [Auto Range, TVG, and Bottom Track] tries to find the best dynamic range, TVG, and bottom track settings for your dataset. When you click the button, the program enables TVG, the range is clipped, and an initial bottom track is determined based on a calculated threshold value. This feature is unlikely to work well in noisy datasets, but it can give you a place to start and you can make further adjustments.

HYPLOT-MULTIConfigure each plotting sheet (PLT) in the Layout independently. There are two parts configuring a PLT: the project and data files, and the control panel options.• Project and Data Files:

a. Enable and disable files, as needed, in the HYPLOT-Multi Data Files and Project Files lists. (DRAW-DISABLE FILES disables all files in all plotting sheets.)

b. Apply the settings. To store these file selections only for the selected PLT, check the Save Background Chart option in the Plot Sheets tab of the control panel; otherwise, HYPLOT-Multi displays the same files in all of the plotting sheets in the layout.

NEW HYPACK® PACKAGES

SUB-BOTTOM REDUCED PACKAGEThe HYPACK® Sub-Bottom software package takes input from a GPS and a sub-bottom sonar, and provides real-time navigation and collection of sub-bottom data. HYPACK® Sub-Bottom stores the navigation data with the raw acoustic sonar data in the SEGY (SEG-Y) format. This is an industry “standard” format that you can process either in the SUB-BOTTOM PROCESSING program (included) or in other industry packages to determine reflective layers and targets.

REDUCED GEODESY/HARDWARE

SUB-BOTTOM PROCESSING

HYSWEEP® Sub-bottom includes the same SUB-BOTTOM PROCESSOR that appears in the standard HYPACK® package. It displays SEGY sub-bottom data and provides tools with which you mark targets, and digitize your layers. The SUB-BOTTOM PROCESSOR converts the digitized points to multiple formats, primarily the HYPACK® All2 format, which may then be displayed with the targets in the HYPACK® Sub-bottom screen or loaded to CROSS SECTIONS AND VOLUMES where you can overlay the layers in profile view and export them to a plotter.

Photogrammetry: In multibeam surveys, photographic images, captured during acquisition, are synchronized with your point cloud display in the 64-bit HYSWEEP® EDITOR.Web Maps: Georeferenced PNG files downloaded through Web servers in the HYPACK® interface.Mission Plan: Planned mobile path configured in one of the supported industry standard formats: MAVLink *.waypoints, GPX, MOOS Ivp-BV, Teledyne ZRP.Remote Viewing: View your survey from devices other than your Survey computer. The method depends on the type of mobile and the survey type:• Aerial Systems: A Web browser display shows the map window, a left-right indicator, a

Remote Control Logging: • Aerial Systems and Surface Vessel Systems: Use the Survey controls through a

Windows® Remote Desktop Connection or the Web browser Remote View.• Underwater Vessel Systems: Use the controls through the survey computer.Real-time Cloud: The Real Time Cloud window shows topographic and hydrographic soundings in a scrolling point cloud display.Auto-matrix: A method by which hydrographic or topographic matrix data is logged to a binary data file and drawn in real time in HYPACK® SURVEY. When you close the SURVEY program, HYPACK® generates matrix files according to user-defined options, and the right dimensions to fit your survey data. This eliminates the need to size one or more matrix files over your survey area in the MATRIX EDITOR.You may use Auto-matrix to log both hydrographic and topographic data simultaneously from HYSWEEP® SURVEY, but you must configure them separately and SURVEY generates separate matrix files for each data type.Real-time Mosaic: Uses the same technology as Auto-matrix, but the resolution is higher and it generates geo-TIF tiles in place of matrix files.Targeting: Mark points of interest in your project area. Each target include, at least, a name and the XY position, but it can also include other metadata.Export to Web: You can export a CLOUD display, in HTML format. Use the exported HTML files to provide remote viewing of your current data in a browser or incorporate them into a Web page. Use your cursor to zoom, pan and rotate the display for optimal viewing.Volumes: • TIN MODEL: Create surface models from XYZ data files then calculate volumes by

comparing the difference in elevation of each node in the TIN Model, as it is projected onto the comparison surface — a level, a channel or another surface. In addition, you can use TIN MODEL to cut sections and export the resulting HYPACK® All2 format, which you can then load to CROSS SECTIONS AND VOLUMES.

• CROSS SECTIONS AND VOLUMES: Use any of the numerous Average End Area calculation methods or the Standard HYPACK® method to calculate volumes. CROSS SECTIONS AND VOLUMES also displays and plots the profile view at each survey line.
