5. Properties SOFTIGEN 767 is a viscous (approx. 160 mPa.s), slightly yellow liquid with a neutral odour. The density is 1.08 g/cm³ at 20 °C. SOFTIGEN 767 acts as an emollient with good skin toleration and its skin toleration, even on eczematous skin, is exceptional. SOFTIGEN 767 imparts a long-lasting pleasant skin feel, even in „rinse-off products“ because it becomes water-insoluble at high dilutions. Because of its high solubilisation ability for amphiphilic pharmaceutical active ingredients and its shorter fatty acid chain lengths SOFTIGEN 767 is able to increase bioavailability on the skin or mucosa. SOFTIGEN 767 is free of preservatives, solvents and other additives. Because of special purification processes the amount of monomere residues is extremely low. SOFTIGEN 767 is stable and can therefore be easily stored. During processing in aqueous systems, no hydrolysis occurs, even after heating. 6. Miscibilities of several solvents with SOFTIGEN 767 Solvents SOFTIGEN 767 ethanol 96 % clearly miscible in every ratio isopropanol clearly miscible in every ratio ethylbutylacetate clearly miscible in every ratio glycerol miscible up to max. 90 % almond oil hardly soluble castor oil clearly miscible in every ratio mineral oil hardly soluble water from 0.1 to 0.8 % turbid then clearly miscible in every ratio. With rising temperature the clear solubility decreases.

7. Proof of the liquefying effect of SOFTIGEN 767 on surfactant blends

* Viscosity measured with Brookfield-Viscosimeter

* INCI/CTFA-name: Cocamidopropyl Betaine, 30 %

* INCI/CTFA-name: Sodium Laureth Sulphate, 28 %

8. Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC): The critical micelle concentration for SOFTIGEN 767 at 23 °C is: 6.0 x 10-3 mol/l.

9. Applications SOFTIGEN 767 because of its chemical, physical and physiological properties, is recommended as a refatting agent in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations. It improves the pliance of the skin preserving its lipid content, especially after cleansing, which causes defatting of the skin. In aqueous alcoholic formulations, such as after-shaves or pharmaceutical gels SOFTIGEN 767 is able to prevent skin contraction. With a calculated HLB value of approx. 19, SOFTIGEN 767 is able to solubilize fragrances, essential oils and volatile crystalline substances as well as certain active drug substances.

In the dermatological area SOFTIGEN 767 is used in the treatment of psoriatic deseases. It softens unpleasant scaling of the skin, it improves the effect of pharmaceuicals. Because of its water solubility SOFTIGEN 767 is a suitable adjuvant for treatment of deseases of the hairy parts of the scalp. In numerous formulations, especially of those containing surfactants SOFTIGEN 767 decreases viscosity. Therefore higher amounts of detergents can be used in liquid preparations (see above figure).

10. Toxicological data Oral toxicity LD50 (mouse/rat): > 5 g/kg body weight (practically not toxic). Draize-Skin test: SOFTIGEN 767 pure and 1% aqueous solution: Not irritant. Draize-Eye test: SOFTIGEN 767 pure: Acute irritations, 1% aqueous solution: Not irritant. Human Patch test: no primary toxic or primary allegic reactions. No sensitizing effect.
