Make It Family Night, Rent A Movie!

Let’s face it, most of us thought spring would never come. By now we are a couple of weeks into the official spring season which started March 20. Along with spring, comes construction. This year is no different, it will be another busy season for construction crews.

Staff is currently working on rural Estelline Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) installations. Customer Service staff is working to schedule installations for customers who signed commitment forms for service on Lake Poinsett.

This spring, MasTec, who is the contractor for ITC, will be completing the FTTH build in rural Webster. Individual installations will happen later this year.

MasTec will also be starting the 2019 FTTH build in the rural Clark and Lake Benton exchanges this spring. Installations to residential and business locations will happen later this year. Customers will be contacted to get their service connected at that time.

Whether you are driving on local roads or major highways, it is important to remember to slow down and give the construction crews some space.

When it comes to shopping around, you might look at options and price, but another key factor in your decision is service.

When you come to ITC, we want you to have a good customer experience. We want to build a good relationship with you!

What happens after the install? The best case scenario, and the one we strive for, is that everything works great. If, however, there is an issue, please contact our office so we can take care of it as soon as possible.

The next question is what do you do when you are on your Internet at 10:00 at night and you need help? ITC has a 24/7 Internet Help Desk number. You can call anytime and get the help you need from experienced technicians.

The same thing is true with your TV service. If you call during the day, you will talk with one of our customer service staff. If you call after hours, you will speak with an experienced technician who can get you up and running again.

Internet 911 ITC University

Facebook is always changing. Their creators usually change the way it looks in some way at least once a year. They also tweak features to give them more functionality. If you don’t like the newest update, hopefully, you won’t have to wait too long before it changes. Unfortunately, you can’t change it back. This is where ITC University comes in! We want to keep you updated with everything Facebook!

Have you ever noticed the circles on the top of your Facebook Messenger, or to the right of your News Feed? Those are called Facebook Stories which are considered to be the second News Feed on Facebook. They were created in 2017, yet a lot of people don’t use them. Just click on the first circle, and you will be taken through all of the Stories available to you. You can reply to the person’s story while it is playing. These Stories are similar to Snapchat or Instagram Stories, but not as popular. Check them out the next time you log into Facebook! You might enjoy looking at Facebook this way.

To find out more about Facebook, attend the April ITC University class. Times and dates are listed below. Class size is limited, so call ITC at 1.800.417.8667 today!

Spring is in the air, and Easter is upon us. People are decorating with flowers, bunnies, and eggs. Kids are planning for what the Easter Bunny might hide for them. On the Internet, Easter Eggs are also common, although they are a bit different. The Internet is full of Easter Eggs!

In computer software, the term Easter Egg refers to fun hidden things that include jokes, messages, or even secret features. I used to come across these features in dull places like computer log files. It was always a bit of a chuckle to find phrases like “Elvis has left the building” when the program closed, or the hidden flight simulator game in the older version of Microsoft Excel. Easter Eggs are continually changing, and they constantly disappear while new ones are created.

Google is currently well known for having Easter Eggs, including ones that are only active on certain days like April Fools, special events, or holidays. The Easter Eggs should work in pretty much any modern browser. The easiest way to view them is to first open a web browser, like Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.

Next, click in the address bar of the browser and type www.google.com and then press enter. Once the Google homepage is loaded, you are ready to test out some of my favorite Easter Eggs that are currently active.

The first one is an homage to an old Nintendo video game named Star Fox. Type “do a barrel roll” (but without the quotation marks) in the Google search box and press enter. The Google screen will spin around before displaying the search results for you.

If you are a fan of anagrams, clear out the Google search box and put the word anagram there instead. Google will ask if you meant something else.

Another fun word to search for is either “tilt” or “askew.” Look closely at your monitor. No, you don’t need to get your eyes checked, Google really is doing what you asked it to do. Another one to try along this line is the word “recursion.”

If you are feeling nostalgic, change your search to “Google in 1998,” and your Google search page will look like it did in 1998. Is anybody feeling lucky?

Speaking of feeling lucky, go back to the normal, modern, www.google.com web site and clear out the search box completely. Then point your mouse at the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. How are you feeling? Try clicking it.

There are a couple of games that you can play. The first one is the old snake game. Type “snake game” in the Google search box and you will be rewarded with a link called “Click to Play.”

Finally, if you want to play a quick game of Atari Breakout, you can do that in Google too. This time go to images.google.com and search for “Atari Breakout.” Give it a second and your screen will turn into the classic breakout game, using the images in the search as the bricks.

I hope you have fun trying these Easter Eggs. There are many others on the web, and on your computer. Some hidden Easter Eggs require the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left Right, Left Right, B, A) to activate them. Happy hunting!
