44 It would stop skateboarders from being on private property and/or stopskateboarders from boarding on the road which can be very dangerous. Also ifthere are more parks for skateboarding it can help decrease the obesity rate inteens.

get to a skatepark because they are so few and far between. When kidsskateboard in public places they are labled as a nuissance and told to leave. They are only driven to skate in these places because of the lack of parksaround the city.

49 My son is a skateboarder and currently has to travel all the way downtown to theShaw Mellenium, and during the week he takes transit to Dalhousie for theskatechurch program. He has also goes way to the west side to that skatepark.

May 5, 2012 11:03 AM

50 The one at Cardel Place is very busy every summer so think it would be popularto have one year round, and a good place for boarders to go.

May 3, 2012 11:38 PM

51 In the south yes, if I wanted to enjoy skate parks I would have to go all the waynorth to do so.

May 1, 2012 9:48 PM

52 there are not enough parks for the amount of skaters in calgary. calgary isbehind from every other city or small town in how many and how good the parksare. millennium is falling apart and westside is so small. all the calgary skaters iknow would always rather go out of town to skate and thats not how it should be.i want to be proud of Calgarys skate board seen

May 1, 2012 8:25 PM

54 Come on, the cops are too hard on us. give us a space to chill and skate. May 1, 2012 10:48 AM

Apr 30, 2012 5:03 PM

56 we need indoor skateparks that wont be doomed to have to close due to bills Apr 30, 2012 12:50 AM

57 Millennium is the only one we have in a city of a million people, and it's gettingreally really old. Airdrie and Cochrane and really far, and westside is portable, tiny, and only open in summer.

59 we need to place our most important community needs first Apr 25, 2012 1:59 PM

60 I love skateboarding, we get into trouble for skateboarding on the sidewalks andother areas my friends and I have no where else to go. Millenium is far to go andmy mom does not like me going down there. It is a great form of exercise, I feelgood and can burn steam. It fosters a sense of community and a place myfriends and I can go to be with each other and play games of skate.

Apr 25, 2012 6:28 AM

61 Great form of excercise, a place for kids/adults to gather and do somethingproductive and meet other kids with same interests builds community andpositivity. A chance for kids to experience successes.

66 i think people should promote out door fitness if you can't be out side doingsomethig you like you are going to stay inside. Later in life its going to be thosepeople being the people children look up to.

70 I don't skateboard so don't know if we should have more. Apr 20, 2012 11:36 AM

71 Our population is too large for only 1 park to support it Apr 20, 2012 10:56 AM

72 Kids need somewhere within walking/biking distance to skate. It's tough for a kidto get all the way downtown without bothering their parents.

Apr 19, 2012 9:50 PM

73 I do not skate much and I do not know the locations of these skateparks Apr 19, 2012 5:11 PM

74 I don't skate so why should I care Apr 19, 2012 4:07 PM

75 My Mom has to take us out to Okotoks to bike, nothing close by available andthe one downtown is for more advanced kids.

Apr 19, 2012 2:36 PM

77 Need more parks so they are not so crowded Apr 19, 2012 6:50 AM

78 I am not sure Apr 18, 2012 7:39 PM

79 I wouldn't use it Apr 18, 2012 6:35 PM

80 cause shaw millenuim isnt to good and not to safe Apr 18, 2012 3:22 PM

81 Theres needs to be a safe haven where kids can go and progress their sport. There needs to be more then one sketchy park downtown, which no right mindedparent would ever leave their child alone there for an afternoon. The number ofskaters is high, the demand for a safe place that caters to a variety of styles ofskating is in dire need. There are no indoor parks, thus giving us nowhere toskate in the winter, unless we go outside and shovel the park ourselves, whichhas happened almost every snowfall last season.

Apr 18, 2012 11:58 AM

82 We don't have enough access to skateparks. The skateparks that we have inCalgary are always pretty busy, and there are none that are close (to me). SinceI am not allowed to take city transit It's hard for me to get around toskateboarding places.

87 So we won't be skating in public places and disturb other people Apr 16, 2012 9:51 PM

88 because the onlt one in calgary is down town, and that is a far way to travle toskate at a nicley paven park, it would be nice to have even a smal skate park ina couple of nabour hoods

Apr 16, 2012 9:41 PM

89 What is wrong with the mobile skate parks? I like that more communities cantake advantage of these compared to fixed location parks.

Apr 16, 2012 10:56 AM

90 because youth/kids are going to do it anyhow so there should be parks to do itsupervised

Apr 16, 2012 9:29 AM

Apr 16, 2012 9:21 AM

93 I'm new, not sure ho many there are Apr 16, 2012 8:21 AM

94 I know the youth in our neighbourhood use the small skate park on a regularbasis and have heard that more would be appreciated

Apr 16, 2012 7:18 AM

95 it's a widespread activity, and should be accomodated. Apr 16, 2012 6:56 AM

96 There is simply not enough. The skateboard community is rapidly growing andthe demand for new parks is unfathomable.

Apr 15, 2012 5:10 PM

97 We feel deprived, we've had millenium for so long with little alternative, whenyou go to other cities in Alberta or B.C. many much smaller than Calgary I mightadd, the support for such projects seems so much more than here. I'm greatfulfor what we have, but with no upgrades or alternatives it becomes stale. I haveso many ideas and would love to create something that all ages could appreciatesimple for fun no matter what level of riding.

Apr 15, 2012 4:50 PM

98 I just moved here and do not know what the city has to offer Apr 15, 2012 3:10 PM

99 because a lot of people love to do these things and they would all appreciate it. Apr 15, 2012 11:59 AM

100 because we only have one good skatepark and the is in downtown. we shouldhave more skateparks including a indoor one.

Apr 15, 2012 11:21 AM

101 If you don't built sufficient skateparks the city becomes the skatepark. We willalways be skateboarding regardless of the facility provided, but the question iswould you rather have youth downtown becoming a hazard to property, themselves and others. Or would you like to see their skills and fitnesses houndin a safe encouraging environment

102 Currently there are only 3 skateboard parks available in Calgary that I know of(Millz/millennium, westside, and mackenzie town) . The only central one is Millzin downtown. Though it is centrally located it isn't always convenient, It is alsooverpopulated and a little outdated. If you look at some of the skateboard parksthat are newly built in B.C. they have very asthetically pleasing as well asuniquely challenging. Skateboarding as an art needs these unique obstacles tobe present so that it can help us as skaters build our talent and individual style 2example parks --> Chuck Bailey Skatepark, Surrey BC; Boro All Wheel Park,New Westminster BC. To view these parks visit skateparktours.ca under theB.C. tab

Apr 15, 2012 12:06 AM

103 it would be good for the youth instead of having to travelling far distances it iscloser

Apr 14, 2012 7:44 PM

104 The sport is continuously growing and the city of Calgary is not recognizing that.It is no different than building hockey rinks or playgrounds. It is still a recreationalactivity and it needs to be seen as one. The current skatepark is outdated andnot nearly big enough to accommodate the amount of users who are consistentlythere. There is no upkeep done to the park whatsoever.

Apr 14, 2012 5:21 PM

105 we need a indoor park and more outdoor because i need to travel 30 min to goto the skate park

Apr 14, 2012 1:21 PM

108 I have older brothers that skateboard and it always seemed that they never hadenough skate places to go to

Apr 14, 2012 10:55 AM

109 1 huge centralized skatepark is useless. Kids having to travel across the city touse an outdated park. Also, building skate parks won't help stop kidsskateboarding on private property, you are only kidding yourself...

Apr 13, 2012 9:13 AM

142 The city blew by building the worlds biggest worst skate park ever, nothing isbuilt right, more skateparks would add to the high demand of skaters in this city

Apr 13, 2012 9:01 AM

143 Cos skateboarding is not a crime and there should be more places for people toskate legally. Plus I think skateboarding is a cheap sport and you don't have tobe a rich kid to do it. Calgary is too much about money and not people.

numerous times to find discreet areas, where we can make our own obstacles toskate on. We were, and are, spending our own money on concrete and tools andpouring cement against the walls of jersey barriers in alleys, and in abandonedderelict buildings. On every occasion these miniature self made skateparks aretorn out by the city within weeks.

154 Currently are not enough facilities in the south of Calgary so kids end upskateboarding in other public or private areas such as shopping centres, schoolparking lots etc

156 They should put in some smaller ones in the periphery, nothing too major Apr 12, 2012 4:23 PM

157 We need more skateparks because there are so many skateboarders in Calgaryand only one concrete skatepark. More than anything, we need an indoorskatepark, as it would give skaters the oppurtunity to practise and enjoy the sportin the winter. you guys build indoor soccer domes, tennis courts, hockey rinks, and even gold shooting ranges, but not skateparks? There are far moreskateboarders than soccer and gold in the city.

172 we have one skatepark thats not very good and gets too crowded Apr 12, 2012 3:27 PM

173 We have no indoor parks or let alone any other outdoor parks to go to. All wehave is millenium and downtown calgary. Vancouver has like eighteen parks inand around the city,Edmonton has at least 8 IN the city. It is irrational not to buildmore skateparks because of how important extreme sports are to todays youthas well as adults. We have a million gyms and rec centers, why not build acouple skateboard parks.

178 Skateboarding is only on the rise as an international phenomenon, and Calgary'sstatus in regards to skateboard facilities is an embarassment to our city. Percapita we are the worst city in Canada in terms of skateboard parks.

Apr 12, 2012 3:24 PM

179 Mobile skateparks in the summer are great, but we need something moresubstantial. It is great that we have a nice skatepark centeral in the City, but toadd a few more would be great.

Apr 12, 2012 3:17 PM

180 There should be at least one permanent skate park in each quadrant of the city,as well as a permanent indoor park

182 It is a good place for the youth to go and engage in this activity so they don'thave to bother private property.

Apr 12, 2012 2:48 PM

183 I think that skate parks are important, but I don't know whether the facilitaties wehave already are sufficient for the need.

Apr 12, 2012 2:47 PM

184 There is currently only one main skateboard in downtown Calgary thereforeinconveniencing the majority of skaters to come to the core or to just skatearound their neighbourhood in random areas.

Apr 11, 2012 9:13 PM

185 There aren't many skkateparks in Calgary. Also they are spread unevenly, sosoome big communities are left with no skateparks

Apr 11, 2012 9:08 PM

186 There is only one skatepark in Calgary, which is only in Dtwn. It would be betterfor us to have indoor skateparks in communities, so that we can have a safeenvironment to skate.

Q10. Where would you want to see future skate parks built?

79 I dont Apr 18, 2012 6:35 PM

80 lots of places plz Apr 18, 2012 3:22 PM

81 I think that the park downtown should remain there, and that there should be apark in the NW, NE, SW, and the SE. They should be in suburban areas wherethey can be monitered effectively to ensure the park isnt a supermarket fordrugs.

Apr 18, 2012 11:58 AM

82 NEAR ME!!! But I would actually like to see them spread throughout the city. Askatepark in Southwood would actually be great, because it can be accessedeasily by transit and Southwood has many amenities (Slurpee stores and such)

Q11. What would you like to see in future skate parks?

101 Calgary is definitely lacking a indoor park. I would also like to see more plazatype parks that resemble more of a city scape. Kinda like Airdries park.

Apr 15, 2012 10:09 AM

102 I would like Calgary to gain another bowl but something modeled after the curvydesign of the Cochrane bowl. I know those aren't cheap, so i would be happywith a suitable plaza style park that features some mother naturly things like treeboxes/planters and other greenery into the mix. examples of this areCallingwood Skate Plaza- Edmonton AB; Taber, and Lacombe.

Apr 15, 2012 12:06 AM

103 raps and pipes Apr 14, 2012 7:44 PM

104 The city should do something similar to the Callingwood Plaza in Edmonton orThe Forks in Winnipeg. These parks are by no means an eyesore to the public, but they still offer the features users wants. A variety of street and transitionoriented terrain.

Apr 14, 2012 5:21 PM

105 more street kind of stuff Apr 14, 2012 1:21 PM

106 Street and bowls Apr 14, 2012 12:24 PM

107 some sick stuff Apr 14, 2012 11:05 AM

108 Skate parks should be designed with the assistance of skaters, they are theones that know what is necessary to have in a skate park in order for it to beused by the majority of skaters. They know what is cool.

115 no bikes. they can do their own fundraising and put in their own effort to makeparks happen. they are also very dangerous at skateparks. you don't playsoccer in ball diamonds. just because it looks like we are doing the same thing, doesn't mean they can be done together. or at least have bike specific parks, hours for bikes or mandatory brakes, peg protectors (doesn't wreck the cement)and no headphones. i would like to see more plaza style parks integrated intourban dwellings or downtown features. it's a shame that a plain bridge couldn'thave been built with a neat skatepark along the river. man, the culture old batdrew ferrel could have conjured up with that lol! think outside the box. why doskaters skate the things they do? the city is an uban playground. don't limit theskateparks to the same old things throughout the city. there has to be a desireto hit up each one.

Apr 13, 2012 9:51 PM

153 More of a skatepark, and less of a plaza type skate park. If I wanted to go skatea rail down some stairs I'd go downtown. I'd like the parks to feel like a hugediverse bowl with lot's of cradles and extensions. Lots of interesting banksobstacles. Pool coping, rock coping, cinderblock coping, just more interestingparks.

176 not sure Apr 12, 2012 3:25 PM

177 Good sized rails and lots of fun this to skate Apr 12, 2012 3:24 PM

178 First, an indoor skatepark, while more expensive, is a necessity in our climate.Considering all the government money supplied to hockey arenas, soccerdomes, and other indoor sporting facilities, the city should feel obliged to supplyskateboarders with at least one indoor alternative. Design-wise, the "streetplaza" design is the popular format in modern skateboarding, but ample"transition" obstacles should not be neglected. Bowls, mini-ramps, and quarter-pipes should be constructed in a variety of sizes so that skaters can progressquickly and more importantly, safely.

Apr 12, 2012 3:24 PM

179 More space, a place closeby for repairs, and a place to buy water. Apr 12, 2012 3:17 PM

10 There awesome May 16, 2012 10:46 PM

11 I like Millenium I think it is well kept and there is alot to try and ride. It is a prettygood influence on the community since its more in a downtown area which is notby much residential zones. I have a good experince at these parks they are likea second home and a good hang out spot for friends.

May 16, 2012 10:41 PM

12 Mckenzie Town sucks, Westside is too far, so Millenium is basically my onlyoption. Millenium is awesome but it gets repetitive after years of the same stuff.

May 16, 2012 10:39 PM

13 I always learn from fellow skaters when I go to every skate park and its a greatenvironment for chatting.

May 16, 2012 10:30 PM

make great friends and social encounters. It makes me feel that the governmentcares about my population and wants the best for us.

45 Cool May 11, 2012 10:46 PM

46 I have heard they are lame, but still worth going to May 11, 2012 7:18 PM

47 They suck May 11, 2012 6:29 PM

48 Mckenzie Towne isn't up right now, so there is currently only two parks in thecity. Mills is a great park for all levels but skating there can sometimes be a littleintimidating for younger skaters. Westside is a great park but it is very small. Aconcrete section would be a lot better.

May 8, 2012 10:48 AM

49 The one in Mckenzie Towne is a mickey mouse one comparing to the otherskateparks in the city, we are a city of over a million people and we only havethree parks?????? My son spends alot of his time down town and at times hehas to deal with the homeless people, entoxicated people so that park shouldalso have a skatepark monitor or security personnel

May 5, 2012 11:03 AM

50 This question just shows how ignored the north is May 3, 2012 11:38 PM

51 I've never gone May 1, 2012 9:48 PM

52 millenium is usually dirty and way to busy. its in downtown so you get alot ofhomless walking through, other then that it can be a good atmphere for olderkids but not for children. the park has cracks everywhere and is just a joke.westide is good but to small. and have never had a good enough review to go tomckenzie town

May 1, 2012 8:25 PM

53 Millenium is a very fun park to skate, if they were to build more parks though iwould like to see one similar to Cochrane!

May 1, 2012 5:01 PM

54 Millennium sucks, great terrain, bad environment. May 1, 2012 10:48 AM

55 I believe Millenium is not maintained well enough and the mobile skate parks areto boring

Apr 30, 2012 5:03 PM

56 Millenium skatepark is really out of date, there is no room for beginners and alotof violence down there. west side is really small and i dislike the fact helmets aremandatory. i dont understand why they wasted all this room for a basketballcourt that nobody uses and we end up putting rails and features there anyways.we should allow a form to be signed where you do not have to wear helmets aslong as it is okay with the childs parents.

Apr 30, 2012 12:50 AM

57 Millennium is dirty, lots of drugs and Hobo's, and is getting old like i said before. It's always extremely busy on the weekend. Westside is way too small, and noteven open full time. They close at 9 pm. and lock up way too early in the fall.Airdrie and cochrane are great parks, but way too far away to go to all the time.

59 Yes and yes Apr 25, 2012 1:59 PM

60 All the skateparks are well used. Millenium is very busy everyone goes therebecause there are not many skateparks. The skateparks are good for thecommunity because it is a place kids can go and have fun and meet other kidsthat like to do the same thing. We shoot videos, play games of skate it is fun wefeel good.

66 if you live in acadia like me you have at least a 20 minute wait to get thier it takesto long and to much work fro people to go out side and skateboard in a friendlyenviroment. They are too far away!!! they are well maitnenced. i have fun their atall of these places it would be nice to see some more variety besides 3 places

Apr 22, 2012 12:21 PM

69 We have been to all of them, and have been around when pot has been lit up Apr 20, 2012 6:30 PM

70 don't know Apr 20, 2012 11:36 AM

71 Millenium park is great, Westide is as well but they don't allow bmx/bike/inline. Itwould be nice to see that change, and mckenzie town is generally rather poorlylooked after and lacks stunts.

Apr 20, 2012 10:56 AM

72 Millennium is pretty fun, but the concrete is getting old and could definitely usesome maintenance.

Apr 19, 2012 9:50 PM

73 It looks like a fun place Apr 19, 2012 5:11 PM

74 They are pretty good considering that they are mostly busy Apr 19, 2012 4:07 PM

75 Millenium Park is sometimes scary because me and my brother are 11 and 9years old. Westside is farther away than Okotoks for us. I haven't heard of theone in McKenzie Town

78 Not sure Apr 18, 2012 7:39 PM

79 they suck Apr 18, 2012 6:35 PM

80 millenium park isnt to good Apr 18, 2012 3:22 PM

81 I think that millenium park was not designed by skaters and does not satisfy thetalent that the park has created. I think that it is sketchy, with bums and druggiesand drunks constantly harrasing skaters, to let them try their board, or hecklingthat ends up in fights. West side is a nead set up and i like how its monitored, butit owuld be awesome if they could somehow put the ramps indoor for the winterso they can be used all year round. i would have to say the same thing regardingthe Mckenzie town park.

Apr 18, 2012 11:58 AM

82 McKenzie Towne is scary for a good kid like myself. The only kids that tend tohang there are hoodlums so I don't feel safe there most of the time. Millenium isokay, I don't feel like anything bad could really happen to me there (as long as Igo in the afternoon) because it is so busy. All in all, Millenium still doesn't attractthe best crowd - there is alot of drug use down there and it isn't located in a partof town where let's say my Mom could just drop me off and feel good about it.Westside isn't the best in terms of the actual skatepark (to me the mini pipe isthe best part) but it at least feel safe and is in a friendly area. I think that theother thing that makes Westside good is that there is (some degree of)supervision there, and that is important to me!

Apr 18, 2012 9:35 AM

83 I personally dont like millenium because there is too many drugies and too fulland not very good in general. Westside is good but far from the NW but verysmall.

Apr 17, 2012 3:44 PM

84 i only really consider millenium an actual skate park. It has way to many peopleand lots of homoless dudes chilling there. we need more skate parks

Apr 17, 2012 10:00 AM

85 N/A Apr 17, 2012 9:53 AM

86 I think they are decent maintained but we need more easily accessible location, aswell, teenagers who use these centers and very poorly judged!

Apr 16, 2012 10:45 PM

87 There good... But Mabey a little bit to advanced. Like for some of us skaters thatare just starting to learn this stuff it tough to be able to do all of these things.

Apr 16, 2012 9:51 PM

88 i skate and bike at millenium park, i want there as soon as the snow was goneand there was a bunch of glass and garbage in the big bowl (full pipe)

Apr 16, 2012 9:41 PM

89 It seems as though they are used at certain times fo the year by youth. Apr 16, 2012 10:56 AM

90 I think so.....it think it's good that they "can" be used for community events aswell!

92 Yes it is positive. We are a diverse community Apr 16, 2012 8:40 AM

93 took some youth to mills once, it was pretty intimidating... Apr 16, 2012 8:21 AM

94 Don't know Apr 16, 2012 7:18 AM

95 along with the steel and concrete, every skateboard park needs to have strongprogramming, mentoring, and supervision programs. Good etiquette in/out ofthe parks must become part of the skateboard culture, and there must be waysthat those surrounding the parks also can provide feedback relating to incidentsor other issues at the parks that affect them. build positive links with communityassociations, seniors groups, athletic orgs (e.g. for mentoring opps), so that thepark users become integrated into the mainstream, and do not deepen into drug-using, anti-social expression. Also, park users must receive anti-graffiitimessaging constantly, and anti-graffiti initiatives must be linked to all skateboardpark programming.

Apr 16, 2012 6:56 AM

96 Since the city's ostensible abandonment of Millennium Park as well as the C-Train expansion, it has become dilapidated and unsafe, teeming with intoxicatedmaniacs, volatile drug dealers, and unhappy participants. However, it is the onlyplace to skateboard legally in the city, so us skateboarders flock in droves to thisunsafe haven. As an adult skateboarder, I have no problem with this place, butwhat must the parents be thinking when dropping their kids off at such a place?Westside is very fun, but again, as an adult, it is a little more child oriented. There is nothing wrong with that, it's just a little confined and heavily regimented.

Apr 15, 2012 5:10 PM

97 I've had great experiences at all these parks. Thumbs up to the staff at westsidefor a well maintained park. The only beef I have is with garbage, and I think thatstems from availability of close garbage cans. If the skaters have to travel they'lldump it instead which I highly disapprove of cause its not that hard to actuallydump it. But it does remain a fact and I think it would be remdioed by access tocloser garbage cans, especially at Millenium Park.Eliminate the reasons forlittering and hopefully it wll change. Everyone appreciates a clean park!

Apr 15, 2012 4:50 PM

98 Havent been there Apr 15, 2012 3:10 PM

99 they should keep putting new jumps and stuff around and in the parks. Apr 15, 2012 11:59 AM

100 i think that they are okay but we should have better skateparks. my experiencestherehave been okay mckenzie towne park i dont go to anymore because ofother kids doing drugs.

Apr 15, 2012 11:21 AM

101 Millenium is basically a second home for me and my friends, i have has so manygood times there and learned so mcuh.

Apr 15, 2012 10:09 AM

102 I have skate all 3, Millz and mack town are taken care of really well considering itisn't monitered by an association. skateboarders moniter skateboarders. thewestside facility is a diamond in the rough for calgary, maintained incredibly wellby skaters!! that is huge. there is nothing more aggravating then having a personwho doesnt understand out art try and moniter it, that would be comparable tohaving a dance instructor coach hockey.

103 the braeside skate park is in an ok condition Apr 14, 2012 7:44 PM

104 Millenium is outdated. Period. And it's not going to take another million dollars tobuild something else. Cochrane has an amazing skatepark and only cost $250k.There is no upkeep done to Millennium Park whatsoever. It is the users who areactively involved in the community and have a love for it who are trying to keepthings rideable. People are always going to complain about skateparks and themdrawing not the best of people. Having the city put a LRT station right by thepark is only going to make drug transactions easier. I am personally not a fan ofthat decision. Westside is an amazing facility. I work at The Source skate shop inKensington and I am always recommending that parents with young kids go toWestside over Mills. Westside is great because it is supervised. I have neverseen anything bad happen there. It's actually my park of choice in Calgary. Iknow there a lot of people who aren't fond of the helmet rule at Westside, but it'sI privately ran park. I'm perfectly okay with the helmet rule there. However, I don'tthink making helmets mandatory at a public park would work at all. Protectivegear should certainly be recommended, but not enforced. I mostly find myselfskating Cochrane, Airdrie, Olds, and soon the new park in Sylvan Lake. This citydeserves some new parks. The Peace bridge was the biggest waste of money Ihave ever seen. A small portion of those funds could have easily built a fewparks around the city. As for the influence these parks have, I feel like there isalways bad apples in a group. I work with a Christian organization up atDalhousie Church that runs an indoor park for people to skate in the winter. Wesee all types of people. But people can't focus on only the bad people. There area lot of amazing skaters here in Calgary who are great role models for the upand comers. So yeah, there's always going to be some bad apples. But the bestI can recommend is for parents with young children to take their kids early in theday, or take them so a place like Westside.

Apr 14, 2012 5:21 PM

105 milleniun is filled with people who do drugs it scares me alot Apr 14, 2012 1:21 PM

106 Mills is crap. It is a mess and has been forgotten by the city. Mac Town is ajoke, it doesn't even count Westside is good but the fence and short hours areabsoulutely stupid. (Youe need a bigger space to answer this question). Mills isstill pretty good to skate but it is old, and always crowded. All 3 are good for thekids because they give us a place to skate and hang out

Apr 14, 2012 12:24 PM

107 they all need alot of work millz need to get expanded possible cracks fixed ect Apr 14, 2012 11:05 AM

108 I'm new to Calgary so I am not familiar with them Apr 14, 2012 10:55 AM

109 I've seen some of the sketchiest things in my life at millenium (includingstabbings), westside is fun, but the people who operate it are idiots and let theirhighschool girlfriends hangout at the skatepark...the mini ramp is amazing!McKenzie town is really fun, I wouldn't change a thing about it, I love it.

Apr 14, 2012 1:18 AM

110 Millenium is very outdated, many cracks, lots of construction. westside Very farcommute and is not permanent, wood breaks easy. Mckenzie Towne is just verybad and not even worth traveling too and is old. They do have influences, itkeeps alot of people occupied rather then getting into trouble.

111 Millennium is becoming dated and as it was not built by an actual skateparkcompany it is not preferable to skate and as mckenzie and westside are notconcrete skateparks they offer little of creative possibility skate-ability andselection

Apr 13, 2012 11:35 PM

112 I do not like skating millennium because the features are poorly built anddesigned and the ground is very rough. The new west side park is fun but I'venever skated makenzie town.

114 I think the city of calgary is lacking on skating facilites millenium is the main parkand is extreamly fun but during the long winter monthes there is nowhere toskate . During the summer mills is great but i would like to see more locations ofoutdoor parks and posibly on main indoor park .

Apr 13, 2012 11:02 PM

115 millenium sucks. it had it's day but choosing a sub par contractor has made itwhat it is today. a crappy, oversized/corwded, lumpy piece of cement. westsideis an example of a skatepark that is horrible. gates, hours, mandatory pads, chains to keep you off. there are no rules in skateboarding. that is why kids godowntown. i have been to westside once and will never ever go back for thatvery reason. i've never been to mckenzie town because quite frankly, is' notgoing to be any better than the 2 we already have. that's fact. i'm older and driveso there's no reason for me to bother going there. the out of town parks andcities get my business. bikes are a pain. they dont have brakes, they are quietand dangerous. it's comparable to bikes on the road. clearly a car is going towin in a collision. i've seen too many friends' skateboarding careers endedbeccause of them. when skaters are painted with an ugly picture, it's hard forpeople to realize that we really do care, and just want a place to skate. the coreis free. the streets will always be home for skaters. it's where it was born. buthaving a variety of choices in parks, will cut downtown use to a very fewhardcore skaters. it's been proven all over the world that giving skaters a placeto go only brings positivity. all barriers are broken down in skateboarding. truepassion and comradery. skaters will police their own park, keep it clean and freeof undesireables. i know i would, and do. i realize this survey is for kids, but i'ma big kid who still skates at 36 years old. the city laughed at me and somefriends who approached the city 20 years ago. sure we were just kids, butobviously, it's been a long time coming. thanks.

Apr 13, 2012 9:51 PM

116 I've only been to Mackenzie town once, it was a fairly maintained place, I thinkthat if you are going to build a skatepark, it should be on smooth ground, notslightly chunky, grated up parking lot ground. It could be bigger, but it's still avery nice fun sized park. I've never been to west side but I have heard its verygood, and friendly. Millennium is good, some stuff is getting too old and allwrecked but for the most part, it's quite acceptable. I know it is a very large park, but there still is grass spots that could be made into more skatepark, just asuggestion. It's usually a friendly place, I haven't seen anything bad so farthough. Thanks for your time!

126 There are alot of dangerous people that hang out and drink at Millenium parkand it's always too busy to ride. Millenium park is also falling apart, the cement isuneven and the flow of traffic within the park is terrible. The west side rec centredoesn't alllow bikes, so where are they supposed to ride? Mackenzie town isway too far away, unless you live there

128 ____ Apr 13, 2012 5:05 PM

129 Millennium isn't in a good location community wise. It is used by any one whocan get there which includes drug addicts and transients. West side is fun butwill not last unless well maintained or covered when ever it rains or snows. It is inan awesome location however being near to familys and communities that willmoniter and take the appropriate actions when trouble arises. I have never beento Mckenzie Town

Apr 13, 2012 4:23 PM

130 Millenium park was way too crowded and garbage made it dangerous to skate inthe park, needs to be maintained.

135 Millenium was poorly built and is showing age but is a big park and still fun toskate and a fairly positive envir. Espcially now that the increased police presencehas cleaned up the sketchy drug crowd. Westside is really fun and a great useof the space, well built, positive place (the mini ramp is great). Mckenzie Towneis alright for a small community park but the modular elements are very limitedand degrade quickly(ashphalt pads get rough really quickly to), doesn't attractskateboarders with means to go skate elsewhere so it ends up being a bit of aunder-age hang-out spot without the presence of older skateboarders to balanceout the crowd.

Apr 13, 2012 1:21 PM

136 Mckenzie towne is a bad quality park, millz and westside are decent Apr 13, 2012 12:46 PM

137 Millenium is a great location and big but it isn't designed very well when youcompare it to newer skate parks. When it gets busy there isn't alot of flow to it.Mills being one of the only parks in Calgary leaves little choice for skaters.

Apr 13, 2012 11:20 AM

138 Millennium seems frightening sometimes, it should be better lit, and morecommunity events/facilitators should be present.

Apr 13, 2012 9:55 AM

139 they arent up to date at all. millenium is almost unsafe as it has bolts sticking outof the cement and major cracks in the cement everywhere. not ideal

Apr 13, 2012 9:52 AM

140 Mckenzie town Is one of my Favorite skateparks. Mills is fun when it's not sopacked

Apr 13, 2012 9:39 AM

141 Millenium is too run down. Has a not so great influence. And does not have avery good layout. I have been going to the park for years but have alwaysnoticed poor design in the park. Like the full pipe for example, its impossible todo and such an expensive waste of concrete. And the spiral snakerun/building isa horrible place from negative activities to take place. I wish they just used all thematerials from the full pipe and snakerun/building to make the park bigger andbetter.

Apr 13, 2012 9:13 AM

142 They are the worst skateparks ever, millennium was built like shit, west side ishelmet mandatory which is stupid, we all skate and accept the risk, andmckenzie towne park is just a joke, for lil kids it's amazing, for. 24 year oldskater, it just doesnt cut it

Apr 13, 2012 9:01 AM

143 I like the mobile skate parks. But I don't like having to go downtown. A fewyears I took lessons at a mobile skate park but the teachers were not veryhelpful. I think it helps the community because we are kids not criminals.

Apr 13, 2012 8:18 AM

144 They are all positive, gives cops an easy place to keep an eye on. Millz seemsto be getting old, husband says westside is nice and fun but too small, andmckenzie has a rough paving pad, and the obstacles are cheap, more of ahazard than anything.

Apr 13, 2012 6:41 AM

145 Millz is old and in need of a over haul. Mckenzie town is a joke. Westside is waytoo small for the number of skaters in the city.

146 i feel they affect the teenage community well because they bring together Apr 12, 2012 9:51 PM

individuals with common interests to engage in a physical activity together! Its ahuge aspect of many teenager's lives.

147 I only skate mills west side has so many days where they are closed andmckenize town is so far away

Apr 12, 2012 7:59 PM

148 They are well maintained and well used. Apr 12, 2012 7:41 PM

149 I've Never been there so I don't know Apr 12, 2012 7:34 PM

150 nope,not good places to go Apr 12, 2012 7:24 PM

151 I think they provide a great place for this kind of activitey to happen in arespectful safe area.

Apr 12, 2012 7:13 PM

152 It's cool Apr 12, 2012 7:04 PM

153 I skate millennium close to everyday, and frankly it's getting boring. It's huge, yethas vary few things you can actually skate. The park attracts a bad crowd beingon the neglected edge of downtown. Until recently the park seemed to have nostructural maintenance to it. (Mainly cracks in the cement). But other than thatthe fact that theirs washrooms and water fountains is a bonus. The new westsidepark seems like that communities permanent version of the city of calgarys'Mobile Skateparks'. Westside's park is vary high quality ramps, that have goodshapes, but the park is vary cookie cutter. The same goes for the mobile parks, who's ramps are starting to fall apart. The mobile parks are a great resource forparents living in suburbs to take their kids to. Since the park is close to home, and monitored. But for someone a little more advanced, I find the park lacking.

Apr 12, 2012 6:33 PM

154 Excellent park, well maintained. Three parks isnt adequate for the size of ourpopulation. They have a positive influence by giving youth an opportunity to beactive outdoors and socializing in a positive way.I have skated at all of the parksand I have a positive experience

Apr 12, 2012 6:29 PM

155 Pretty good Apr 12, 2012 5:34 PM

156 They have a good effect as the people aren't using private property for theirtricks and stuff.

Apr 12, 2012 4:23 PM

157 Besides Westside, the other two skateparks in calgary are very poorly built, forcing skaters to travel to Cochrane and airdrie when they (we) wan't to skate adecent park.

Apr 12, 2012 4:07 PM

158 I think they are fine Apr 12, 2012 4:04 PM

159 I don't really know... Apr 12, 2012 3:58 PM

160 I've \ver been there Apr 12, 2012 3:57 PM

161 I enjoy Millennium park, but it is difficult to work downtown, travel home to bewith the family and then go back downtown to partake in skateboarding.Westside (spelling mistake above and i believe Millennium was always spelt with

2 n's as per the naming of it back in 1999, but those are small details) Westsideonly has specific hours that are difficult to work with my schedule and McKenzieTowne is great for a small number of kids and youth, but can't really take onmore than 15 -20 participants at one time.

162 I think that they are fantastic Apr 12, 2012 3:50 PM

163 millenium is never maintained. westside is supervised like babysitters. Apr 12, 2012 3:49 PM

164 Never been, sorry Apr 12, 2012 3:48 PM

165 They are great Apr 12, 2012 3:46 PM

166 I have no idea. Don't skateboard. Apr 12, 2012 3:44 PM

167 i dont know Apr 12, 2012 3:42 PM

168 I have no clue, sorry. Apr 12, 2012 3:42 PM

169 no Apr 12, 2012 3:37 PM

170 not crazy about Milenium becuase of its location. Westside and Mckenzie are tofar from homne for my son to get there on his own.

Apr 12, 2012 3:27 PM

171 I feel that Millenium attracts a bit of a rougher crowd than Westside, and alot ofthe time people at Mckenzie towne skatepark don't even go there to skate, theygo there to cause trouble and do drugs, which also makes me feel unsafe.Westside is pretty good. The actual skatepark is not my favorite because of the'mobile' feel to the ramps rather than concrete. Out of all our skateparks, I feelthat Mckenzie towne skatepark is the worst in regards to obstacles and thecrowd, then Millenium, then Westside. I do enjoy skating Millenium more thanthe other two parks though because of the obstacles.

Apr 12, 2012 3:27 PM

172 they all suck Apr 12, 2012 3:27 PM

173 I skateboard at millenium everyday its not snowing or raining. Its my secondhome. I believe that skateparks are sacred to everyone today. Please buildmore.

Apr 12, 2012 3:26 PM

174 Mackenzie towne is okay but the ground there is rocky and un smooth and thepark equipment is rusty. Millenium is good but not well placed like a street linesection.

Apr 12, 2012 3:26 PM

175 millenuim is okay same with westside and mckenzie towne sucks Apr 12, 2012 3:26 PM

176 I live in Mckenzie town and did not know there was one there so that speaksvolumes (though I am not a kid) it is obviously somewhere that it is not obviouslyvisible? I know there are concerns about lots of drugs and safety concerns atMillenium, not sure why

Apr 12, 2012 3:25 PM

177 Millenium is a poor skate park there are too many drugs and drinking going on atthe park and i think its not a good influence

178 Millenium park is extremely lacking in maintenance (save for grafitti removal),and features extremely dangerous design elements. The full-pipe feature, whileiconic, is almost never utilized and poses an enormous safety risk. Westside RecCentre, while diminutive in area, is incredibly fun, to put it simply. The mini-rampfeature is easily the best in Calgary, I would love to see more like it. McKenzieTowne is far too isolated, as well as outdated.

Apr 12, 2012 3:24 PM

179 When people think of skateparks they associate it with crime, even though that isnot the case.

Apr 12, 2012 3:17 PM

180 Millenium is not very well designed or maintained, but is a great central resourcefor skaters - although it may be intimidating for begginers or young skaters.Millenium is also great because it is free, whereas you have to pay for use atWestside and Mckenzie Towne. Skateparks absolutely provide a positiveinfluence for the community as the provide a safe, legal place for skateboardingto occurr and they also provide a place for skateboarders of all ages to cometogether, socialize, and share their passion for this activity.

Apr 12, 2012 3:08 PM

181 Well used and highly enjoyed by kids Apr 12, 2012 2:54 PM

182 I am unfamiliar with these facilities. However, I do know the City at one point ransome mobile skate parks, and they were very well attended.

Apr 12, 2012 2:48 PM

183 I live close to Millenium Park and I think it's a positive part of the community. Apr 12, 2012 2:47 PM

184 I've only been to the Millenium Park one but from what I've seen it's prettydecent.

Apr 11, 2012 9:13 PM

185 They aren't maintained that well. Even though the facility is nice, they are reallydirty and mostly are used for selling weed

Apr 11, 2012 9:08 PM

186 Existing skateparks like Millenium is good, they have a great variety ofobstacles, and different set of ramps for skill. The only problem that it is too faraway to access.
