Eden ProjectRead the text and answer questions on the next page!
12 years ago the location of the Eden Project was an old mining site. There were no buildings, no plants and no soil! Now it has two Biomes full of natural beauty.
Plants have been here longer than us! They fi rst started appearing on Earth 400 million years ago. Humans have only been on this planet for 200,000. Did you know chocolate, coffee, the cotton in your jeans and timber in buildings all started life as plants?
The Mediterranean Biome re-creates ‘warm temperate’ regions of the world including; South Africa, South West Australia and Central Chile. You can see olives, herbs and vines there.
The Rainforest Biome has around 1,129 plants - and grows its own chocolate!
