    Your Service Provider will supply a SIMcard, containing your phone number andbilling details. It may be used in otherGSM phones. You may need to carefullysnap this out from a credit card sizedSIM.

    Remove battery if fitted (1,2).

    Unlock SIM carrier by sliding top asshown (3).

    Swing up carrier (4) then slide in SIMcard (5).Ensure angled corner is as shown.

    Swing down carrier (reverse of 4), en-sure it fits flush.

    Lock carrier(reverse of 3), listen forclick.

    Refit battery, locating bottom end,then swinging in top until clicks.

    Your new Lithium Ion battery will not befully charged:

    Insert charger plug into socket in base(arrow facing up).

    Plug charging unit into mains powersocket (ensure voltage range stated oncharger is not exceeded).

    Allow approximately 1 hour for maxi-mum charge.

    Your display shows

    charging status and

    charging level.You may use your phone whilst charging.

    If removing battery ensure phone isswitched off first.

    A full charge can provide up to 200hours standby, or up to 5 hours talk-time, but dependant on network,environment, SIM card and servicesused, lower times will be expired.

    All radio transmitters carry risks of interfer-ence with electronics in close proximity:

    Mobile phones must beswitched off in an aircraft.(as a courtesy, also switch offalarms.)

    Do not activate near gas sta-tions, fuel depots, chemicalplants or blasting operations.

    Use always full area code, even ifcalling locally.

    Use to correct any errors. Ashort press clears last digit,a long press the entirenumber.

    For easier, quicker, and error free use,you can call any highlighted number orname, including:

    Redial previous calls

    Automatically redial failed calls

    Call back received calls Call back unanswered calls

    Call numbers in messages

    You can also use your PhoneBook,Fast Dial keys and Quick Dial, detailsfollow.

    The last 10 numbers called, arerecorded. From your standbydisplay:

    Shows last calls.

    Press again to redial last callto redial previous calls:

    Scroll to highlight requirednumber.

    If a call is unsuccessful you are offered:

    Press to repeatedly dialnumber in progressive inter-vals for 15 minutes.

    You can choose where your Phone-Book is stored:

    Entries are automatically stored in your

    SIM card, enabling them to be trans-ferred to another GSM Phone.

    Select to use Phone Memory. If yourSIM is full, entries will overflow intothis memory (50 max).

    Marks an entry in Phonememory.

    (in SIM)If you have a special SIM, offering 'FixedDialling Number', you can restrict calls toentries in this PhoneBook, and no newentries can be made. PIN 2 is needed tocontrol this, please note security codeprecautions page 43.

    Marks an entry inRestricted PhoneBook.

    You are asked for PhoneBook type,

    and then, as a security the relevantcode (PIN 1, PIN 2 or PHONECODE).

    Entries are normally saved on yourSIM, the capacity is defined by yourService Provider.

    You can check used and availablecapacity for:

    SIM card (up to 400 entries)

    SIM (restricted) Phone (up to 50 entries)

    A phonebook entry can be sent as anSMS.

    A phonebook entry is transmitted viainfrared to another phone.

    A phonebook entry is transmitted viainfrared to a PC for printed.

    Control codes can be saved like normalphonebook entries in the PhoneBook(eg for controlling an AnswerPhoneremotely).

    Enter the phone number.

    Hold down until + appears.

    If additional codes are required:

    You can hold down again to

    create a further pause of3 seconds, repeat if a longerpause is required.

    This creates a pause until the connec-tion is established.

    Enter Code number.

    Press and add suitablename as usual.

    Alternatively, just save the Control

    Code, and send it during call, but notespecial procedure (see p. 17).

    You can create and manage yourPhoneBook via a computer/PDAusing appropriate software, includ-ing SoftDataLink PRO (see "Acces-sories", p. 58).

    Your Service Provider may be ableto create or update your PhoneBookover the air.

    These useful numbers may alreadybe entered in your PhoneBook,select and scroll through the subdirectory.

    Identifies a PremiumService number.

    Indicates number notavailable when outsideyour home network.

    Please see Control Use p. 42. Notethat your PhoneBook may alreadybe restricted (normal for some busi-ness applications).

    Your Service Provider may setupRestricted PhoneBook entries suchas "613??00" iff so, the user canenter any number inplace of the

    question marks.

    If using Car Kit Comfort, this adjust-ment will not affect normal (hand-held) setting.

    During a call you can be advised thatthere is another call waiting. You mayneed to register for this service, andneed to set your phone (see p. 45).

    You will hear a special tone during thecall.

    Your caller will hear ringing tone.

    You have 3 options:

    This accepts waiting call andplaces current call on hold.You may swap back and

    forth as required.You can call as follows:

    Press to end current call.If you press, the waiting call is notterminated and can be retrieved with. Otherwise, the call is auto-matically terminated after 10 sec-onds.

    Your SIM is supplied with a PINnumber. You should also be suppliedwith a Master PIN or PUK (PersonalUnblocking Key) which should be usedif your SIM is mislaid.
