1 1 Clearly Gone Brice Blanc Sean McCarthy 20/1 5/1 SA 4f :48.4h TT B Very late changing leads but went easily throughout, coasting home the final quarter mile in :24.2 looking good. Been

away since November of 2018 and may need a sprint prep to get the rust off. Always has been most effective over a distance of ground.

2 2 Thriving [GB] Umberto Rispoli Jeff Mullins 6/15/1 SA 5f 1:00.2h B- Never asked at any stage, final half mile in :23.2 and :48.2 for Mullins. English import is winless in six starts stateside and

is still trying to find her proper level but seems in good enough shape.

3 3 Nice Ice Aaron Gryder Brian Koriner 8/1

4 4 Queen of the Track Ruben Fuentes Jeff Bonde 8/14/19 SA 5f 1:02.4h B- Never asked at all, coasting home in the final sixteenth, :11.4 and :37.4 from the three furlong pole to the wire. Seems in

good enough shape but may benefit from a return to the mid-grade claiming ranks.

5 5 Shines Her Light [IRE] Victor Espinoza John Sadler 6/14/29 SA 5f 1:01.3h TT B Not really asked at all, final three furlongs in solo training track drill in :36.4 for Sadler. Away since breaking her

maiden in early February but has trained right along and should be competitive on the raise.

3/18 SA 4f :49.1h B Hard held in easy breezing, plenty left while holding her edge. Has further improvement in her for Sadler, graduated nicely in U.S. debut.

6 6 A Thousand Dreams Abel Cedillo Doug O'Neill 20/1 4/25 SA 5f 1:01.3h C+ Mild coaxing thru the lane while appearing a tad second best inside Dipping In (same time), final half in:24 flat and :49

1 1 Afternoon Heat Umberto Rispoli Steve Knapp 5/25/10 SA 4f :49.2h C+ Easy early, chirped to inside the furlong pole and swapped back to his left lead late, splits of :12.1 and :37 flat for the final

three furlongs, okay move, nothing too exciting. Knapp-trained colt comes off nice starter's allowance sprint win and most likely will tackle first-level allowance types next time.

3 3 Conte Cavour Tiago Pereira Javier Sierra 20/1 4/26 SA 4f :48.4h TT B- Solo training track drill under mild pressure, final quarter mile in a solid :24 flat. Maiden winner at Los Alamitos might

find tough sledding at the big track unless he's properly spotted.

4 4 Whooping Jay Mario Gutierrez Doug O'Neill 4/14/18 SA 4f :50.3h B In company inside Zero Down (4f, :50.2h) for O'Neill and was under wraps every step of the way while finishing head-and-

head with workmate, splits of :12.1 and :37.2. nothing more than a gallop. Looks good, seems fit, been away since February of 2019 but doesn't seem to have lost a step.

1 1 Elgofranco Mario Gutierrez Ben Cecil 6/15/6 SA 5f 1:00.4h TT B- Worked outside Cerulean (same time) for Cecil and was tad second best, mild coaxing through the lane, final three

furlongs in :12.1 :36 flat, solid move. In good shape, form suggests she's a bit better on dirt than turf.

2 2 Ole Silver Drayden Van Dyke Philip D'Amato 6/13/22 SA 5f 1:01.1h TT C+ In blinkers, broke off a couple of lengths behind She's the Boss (5f, 1:01.3h TT), engaged that one entering the lane

but couldn't get by under mild urging (workmate not asked much), splits of :24.4, :36.4 and 1:01.3 on our watches. a bit slower than given. Moderate type at this stage for D'Amato, doesn't really act like a sprinter.

3 3 Christmas Gold Victor Flores Jesus Nunez 50/1

4 4 Lovely Finish Mauro Donoe Joe Herrick 7/2

5 5 Noor Khan Flavien Prat Philip D'Amato 5/15/11 SA 5f 1:00h B- Solo five furlong drill for comebacking filly now in in the D'Amato barn, picked her up at the 3/8ths pole and was under

some coaxing through the lane with splits of :11.3, :35.3 and :48.2 while traveling out to the 7/8 pole, okay work but nothing great. May have a bit more speed than she showed last year, should return soon vs. older maidens.

6 6 Thick Smoke Assael Espinoza Steven Miyadi 12/1

7 7 Mountain Pass Agapito Delgadillo Jose Hernandez, Jr. 30/1

8 8 Gemma Royal Tiago Pereira Javier Sierra 30/1

9 9 Sweet Regards Abel Cedillo Kristin Mulhall 6/15/7 SA 5f 1:02h C+ In blinkers, urged through the lane, final three furlongs in :12 flat and :37.2. Was hoping for a bit better after a promising

run up north in her debut at a big price. Might be the type that runs better than she works.

 Race #5 Maiden Special Weight - 1M T

FOR CALIFORNIA BRED OR CALIFORNIA SIRED MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs. [Non-Starters For A Claiming Price Of $40,000 Or Less In Their Last Start Preferred].

1 1 Pour On the Cole Geovanni Franco Michael McCarthy 15/1 5/10 SA 4f :49.3hg C+ In company from gate inside Include the Tax (same time) for M. McCarthy, wasn't asked at all early, mild pressure

midway and just went one-paced, splits of :24.4, :36.4 and :50 flat on our watches, head-and-head and not too exciting. Away since last summer, now a gelding but seems the same and may need maiden claimers this time around.

2 2 Brix Jorge Velez Manuel Marques 6/1

3 3 Foothill Aaron Gryder Sean McCarthy 12/1 4/17 SA 4f :48.2h B- In blinkers, in company inside Scary Fast Smile (same time) for S. McCarthy and actually looked okay, better than the last

time we saw him, breezing throughout, final three furlongs in :11.4 and :36.4. Vronsky gelding had a decent way of moving and actually is bred for grass and a distance of ground. Worth a little bit of a look in the proper spot.

3/7 SA 4f :48.4hg C In company with Scary Fast Smile (4f, :48.2hg) in gate drill for S. McCarthy and was second best, somewhat sluggish from the gate, moving after a quarter of a mile to engage 'Smile but then fading late, up in :48.4, two lengths back when eased up, Doesn't act like all that much at this stage.

4 4 Inesperado Edwin Maldonado James Cassidy 20/1

5 5 Mr. Clutch Drayden Van Dyke Jorge Gutierrez 15/1

6 6 Fravel Umberto Rispoli Richard Mandella 6/1

Page 3: Siegel's Workout Analysis Santa Anita Sunday, May 17th › wp-content › uploads › 2020 › ... · Been away since November of 2018 and may need a sprint prep to get the rust off

7 7 I am Innocent Mario Gutierrez Ben Cecil 6/15/13 SA 4f :48.4h TT B- Solo training track drill for Cecil, a tad green but did okay, final three furlongs in :36.2. Has some substance and should

be the type to improve with experience. Ran better than he worked at a big price (21-1) in his debut in February.

8 8 Tropical Terror Victor Espinoza James Cassidy 4/14/16 SA 5f 1:01.3h B- Cassidy-trained maiden went five furlongs on the main track, some late urging, final three furlongs in :37 flat. Seeking

another maiden state-bred affair, form isn't bad.

9 9 Bud Knight Flavien Prat Leonard Powell 3/1

10 10 Cali Caliente Tiago Pereira J. Kruljac 10/1

11 11 Gambini Agapito Delgadillo Jeff Mullins 10/1

12 12 Unusually Handsome Abel Cedillo Peter Miller 4/1

13 13 Hammering Lemon Mario Gutierrez Doug O'Neill 15/1 5/1 SA 5f 1:02h C+ No match in the final furlong outside with Fore Left (5f, 1:01.2h), weakening in the final stages, :25.1 from the quarter pole

home. Not terribly inspiring, though the workmate is a stakes type. Square Eddie gelding probably belongs with maiden claiming company.

 Race #6 Allowance Optional Claiming - 6F D

FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON $15,000 TWICE OTHER THAN MAIDEN, CLAIMING, STARTER, OR STATE BRED OR WHICH HAVE NEVER WON THREE RACES OR OPTIONAL CLAIMING PRICE OF $62,500. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs. Non-winners Of Two Races Other Than Maiden, Claiming Or Starter Allowed 2 lbs.

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Hot Sean J.C. Diaz, Jr. Mike Puype 5/15/9 SA 5f 1:02.1h C+ In blinkers, same type of drill as last time, as Flatter gelding broke off in front of Unbroken Star (5f, 1:01.4h) but was

clearly second best in the final stages while under pressure to the end, final quarter in :25 flat. Looked better when Baffert had him.

5/1 SA 5f 1:01.2h C+ In blinkers, in company inside Unbroken Star (5f, 1:01h), breaking off about three lengths cleart and then finishing a head in front at the wire but was under strong urging while workmate was going fairly easily, splits of :24.3 :36.4 and 1:01.1 for new trainer Puype. Been away since winning (and being claimed for $40,000) in early January. Just a moderate drill while getting fit again.

2 2 Loud Mouth Drayden Van Dyke Steve Knapp 30/1

3 3 St. Joe Bay Abel Cedillo John Sadler 2/1

4 4 Rowayton Umberto Rispoli Don Chatlos 3/15/2 SA 5f 1:01.4h C+ Solo five furlong drill for Chatlos, splits of :11.4, :24 flat and :49.4 for the final half mile, sloppy changing leads again and

not really finishing with much energy. Was hoping to see more. Question mark.

4/16 SA 6f 1:14.4h B- Worked inside Searing Chase (6f, 1:15.1h) for Chatlos, a tad keen early, then earned splits from the 5/8ths pole to the wire on our watches in :23.4, :35.4 and 1:02.1, some coaxing late while tiring a bit in the late stages (also was a bit late changing leads) while drawing clear from fading workmate. Seemed a bit rusty and might need more work based on this drill, been away since finishing a close fourth at Saratoga last summer in the Jerkens S.-G1.

5 5 Tiger Dad Victor Espinoza Carla Gaines 4/1

6 6 Pepe Tono Jorge Velez Victor Garcia 15/1 5/2 SA 6f 1:14h C+ Finished down the lane inside Law Abidin Citizen (6f, 1:14h), final three furlongs in a so-so :37.4 for V. Garcia. Now a

gelding but seemed the same, needs a significant class drop.

7 7 Collusion Illusion Flavien Prat Mark Glatt 3/1

 Race #7 Maiden Special Weight - 1M D

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs..

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Sweet Devil Umberto Rispoli Michael McCarthy 5/15/3 SA 5f 1:01.1h B Never asked a drop, just coasting through the lane, final three furlongs in :12.1 and :37 flat. Coming back well, has been

in steady training since a good third place effort in early February. Nice sort.

4/27 SA 4f :48.2h B Breezing throughout looking good for M. McCarthy, final three furlongs in :11.4 and :36 flat. Showed plenty of promise in a pair of outings this winter and should continue to progress as she matures. Will be tough vs. maidens, no reason she won't handle dirt if asked.

2 2 Last First Kiss Jorge Velez Gary Mandella 6/1

3 3 Crystal Ball Drayden Van Dyke Bob Baffert 5/15/11 SA 5f 1:00.3h B In company inside As Time Goes By (same time) for Baffert and may have been a tad second best at the wire (neither

one asked at all), final half mile in :23.1 and :48.1, both breezing under the wire. Nice prospect, ditto for workmate. Should make the entries soon.

5/6 SA 6f 1:15.2h B Solo six furlong drill for Baffert, final 5/8ths on our watches in :25.3, :37.4 and 1:03 flat, slow early, light coaxing late while finishing with plenty left. Malibu Moon filly trains like (and is being pointed for) a route race for her upcoming debut. Good-looker.

Page 4: Siegel's Workout Analysis Santa Anita Sunday, May 17th › wp-content › uploads › 2020 › ... · Been away since November of 2018 and may need a sprint prep to get the rust off

4 4 Regal Beauty Abel Cedillo Bob Baffert 10/1 5/4 SA 6f 1:15h B- Okay work while picking up an unintended workmate down the backside, final 5/8ths in :25.1, :37.3 and 1:02.2, some mild

late coaxing in steady fashion. Really nothing to write home about. About the same as she was during the winter.

5 5 Madison Parc Flavien Prat Don Chatlos 7/24/16 SA 5f 1:02.2h B- In blinkers, in company outside Clivetty for Chatlos and was under mild coaxing through the lane to finish a tad the better

of the two, one-paced type with splits of :24.3, :36.2 and 1:01.4 on our watches, a bit faster than given. Curlin filly should improve as she matures, needs to run long.

6 6 Classy Ruler Mike Smith John Shirreffs 5/25/11 SA 5f 1:01.2h B- Been a bit of a disappointment so far but continues to look fine in the a.m. for Shirreffs, on her own while well off the rail,

final three furlongs in :11.4 and :36.2. Freshened since February and should return vs. maiden two-turn fillies and mares soon.

7 7 Full Eclipse Victor Flores John Cortez 30/1

8 8 Saving Sophie Jose Valdivia, Jr. Ronald Ellis 6/1

9 9 Midnight Jamboree Agapito Delgadillo William Spawr 15/1 4/18 SA 5f 1:00.4h C+ Worked outside Bedrock (5f, 1:01h) for Spawr and was under a stout hold early while a couple of lengths back to the top

of the lane, then was asked to quicken but couldn't get by workmate in the final stages, final three furlongs in :36.2. Has some ability but probably a down the road type at this stage.

 Race #8 - Desert Stormer S. Stakes - 6F D

FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE-YEAR-OLDS AND UPWARD. By subscription of $100 each to accompany the nomination or by Supplementary nomination of $2,000 due at time of entry. $750 to enter and an additional $750 to start with $100,000 guaranteed of which $60,000 to the winner, $20,000 to second, $12,000 to third, $6,000 to fourth and $2,000 to fifth.

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Fighting Mad Drayden Van Dyke Bob Baffert 4/14/25 SA 5f 1:01.2h A- Nice and relaxed and just galloping throughout, splits of :25.2, :37.1 and 1:01.2 for Baffert. Plenty fit and couldn't look

better.

4/19 SA 5f :58.4h A- Terrific work for Baffert, splits of :24.1, :35.2 and :59 flat on our watches, never asked and finishing well within herself. Lightly-raced and coming back better than she left. Should make a high-quality 4-year-old, sprinting or routing.

2 2 First Star Jose Valdivia, Jr. Ronald Ellis 6/14/30 SA 5f 1:03.2h B Slow and easy for Ellis looking fine, splits of :12.3 and :38.3 for the final three furlongs, just galloping. A cut below the

good ones in the older distaff division.

3 3 Mother Mother Mike Smith Bob Baffert 5/25/9 SA 5f :59.4h B+ Mostly on her own while looking her usual sharp self for Baffert, final half mile in :12 flat, :23.1, and :47.3. Doing well after

brief freshening and seems plenty fit.

4 4 Amuse Jorge Velez Richard Mandella 20/1 5/1 SA 6f 1:12.3h B In team drill outside Tizamagician (6f, 1:12.3h) and Springs Eternal (6f, 1:14h) and was mostly breezing, final three

furlongs in :37 and change while far off the rail, easy drill while getting fit again. Been way for more than a year, seems to be coming back in good enough shape.

5 5 Bellafina Flavien Prat Simon Callaghan 6/55/10 SA 4f :46.4h A- Looked super as usual, breezing throughout and finishing under a tight hold, splits of :22.4 and :46.4. Hasn't been one to

trust in the p.m. but she's top class when she wants to be.

6 6 Artistic Diva Victor Espinoza John Sadler 15/1 4/23 SA 5f :59.4h B Solo five furlongs for Sadler, going off quickly and then slowing up just a tad late but never being asked, splits of :22.3,

:34.1 and :59.3. Back from Oaklawn Park and seems in good shape.

7 7 Tomlin Abel Cedillo Steven Specht 12/1

8 8 Hang a Star Umberto Rispoli Ian Kruljac 20/1

 Race #9 Claiming - 1M T

FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs. Claiming Price $25,000.

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Lucky Ms Jones Abel Cedillo Philip D'Amato 4/15/10 SA 5f 1:00.4h TT B Worked outside Mischiffie (5f, 1:02.2h) for D'Amato in training track drill, breaking off far behind and then finishing

head-and-head at the wire, neither one asked much, final three furlongs in :12.1 and :36.4. Looks good, but always does in the morning. Should benefit from a class drop into a mid-grade claimer.

2 2 Smiling Rose Ruben Fuentes George Papaprodromou 6/13/4 SA 5f 1:02.2h B- In company inside Frose (same time), splits of :24.2, :36.3 and 1:02.2, never really asked much while appearing slightly

best. Been away since last summer, appears to be returning in decent shape, probably fits with moderate claimers this time around.

3 3 Zucchera Drayden Van Dyke Manuel Marques 12/1

Page 5: Siegel's Workout Analysis Santa Anita Sunday, May 17th › wp-content › uploads › 2020 › ... · Been away since November of 2018 and may need a sprint prep to get the rust off

4 4 Invincibella [GB] Mario Gutierrez Hector Palma 3/14/27 SA 5f 1:01.3h C+ Went off fast and then paid the price late, splits of :11.3, :23.3 and :49.4., not impressive at all for Palma. Never much of

a worker and wants turf, for sure. Freshened since early January and likes the local lawn.

5 5 Establish Justice Assael Espinoza Mike Puype 12/1

6 6 Social Graces [GB] Brice Blanc Patrick Gallagher 12/1 4/29 SA 4f :49h B- In company inside Pretty Point (same time) for Gallagher and finished stride-for-stride with that one to the wire, not asked

much, final quarter in :24.3, decent enough. Been away since last August but seems to be coming back in good shape. May have a look with a class drop upon her return.

7 7 Harper's Gallop Flavien Prat Jack Carava 6/1

8 8 Sabinos Pride J.C. Diaz, Jr. David Hofmans 20/1 5/7 SA 7f 1:28.3h C In blinkers, solo seven furlong drill over testing main track for Hofmans, struggling late under urging but not surprisingly

so, final three furlongs in :40 flat. Hard to endorse based on this drill no matter how you slice it.

9 9 Kleen Karma Jorge Velez Craig Lewis 30/1 5/10 SA 5f 1:01.4h C+ In blinkers, shadow roll, worked inside Finally Got a Red (same time) for C. Lewis, and was a bit the best at the wire. both

under strong urging through the lane, splits of :24.3, :37.1 and 1:02.4 on our watches, a full second slower than given. Hard to embrace, needs a class drop.

well but needs to be realistically spotted.

11 11 Pasito Umberto Rispoli J. Kruljac 12/1 4/23 SA 4f :49.3h TT B- Did okay in solo training track drill without pressure, final three furlongs in :37.2. Lightly-raced, may have a bit of

improvement in her but needs soft winners

1 1 Lambeau Mike Smith John Shirreffs 3/14/5 SA 4F :48.4h B- Final quarter in :25 flat under light pressure, okay move, nothing particularly noteworthy. Seeking another first-level

allowance main track affair and holds his form for Shirreffs.

2 2 Winning Element Flavien Prat Ryan Hanson 5/2

3 3 Unbroken Star Assael Espinoza Mike Puype 15/1 5/9 SA 5f 1:01.4h B Best over Hot Sean (5f, 1:02.1h) in smooth drill while just galloping along, plenty left. Has some improvement in him but

will need it to act with first-level allowance foes after winning a softer starter's allowance event last time out.

4 4 Sash [GB] Abel Cedillo Mark Glatt 12/15/10 SA 4f :48h B- Solo half mile spin by recently gelded English-bred in M. Glatt barn, not asked, up in :48.2 on our watches while looking

okay. Was overmatched in Kilroe Mile-G1, should try first-level allowance company next time (actually won this type of race two runs back and remains eligible).

5 5 Kiss Today Goodbye Umberto Rispoli J. Kruljac 5/1

6 6 Soldier Boy Jorge Velez John Sadler 5/15/10 SA 5f 1:01.1h B- In company outside Cryin' Chuck (5f, 1:02.1h) for Sadler and drew clear late under light coaxing while trying to lean in

just a bit, from the 3/8ths pole to the 7/8ths pole on our watches in :11.4, :35.4 and :48.2, solid move. Beaten choice last time out but is better than that, should return soon, has all of his conditions and may handle a mile if given the chance.

7 7 Justin's Quest Edwin Maldonado Manuel Marques 20/1

8 8 Swamp Souffle Mario Gutierrez Steve Knapp 10/1 5/9 SA 4f :49.3h C+ Went off on his own, was asked to pick it up in the final furlong and responded moderately, :25 flat from the quarter pole

home. Fair move, needs to be realistically spotted.

9 9 Striking a Pose Drayden Van Dyke Mark Glatt 8/15/6 SA 5f 1:00.1h B In blinkers, worked inside Fabozzi (same time) for M. Glatt and responded to some coaxing in the final furlong to appear

best with splits of :23.3, :35.1 and 1:00.1. solid work while holding his edge. Graduated at first asking at a mile and should be competitive on the raise.

10 10 Truth Seeker Tiago Pereira Steven Miyadi 15/1 5/9 SA 5f 1:02.4h C+ Now in Miyadi barn following a $50,000 claim, fair move under light pressure late, final three furlongs in :11.4 and :37.2.

Hard to say if he'll turn out to be a good claim; we'd actually rather have the money.

11 11 Take the One O One Jose Valdivia, Jr. Brian Koriner 15/14/25 SA 5f 1:01h B In company inside Takethediamondlane (same time) for Koriner, and did well, finishing under a decent hold while proving

best by a half-length at the wire with splits of :24.2, :36.2 and 1:01.1 on our watches, eager to do a bit more if asked. Chance to regain his form but needs a class drop.

high class stablemate, final quarter in :25.3, easy drill while looking fine. Bred to improve with distance/age (Tiznow) and is headed in the right direction.
