Lover’s in Disguise In this ever-changing modern society, do you really know who anyone really is anymore?

A recent scandal which shocked the nation, horrifying those who were involved was the marriage of Bianca Minola and Lucentio of Pisa. Lucen-tio is a respectable gentleman from Pisa, son of Signior Vincentio Bentivo-lii, a prominent Italian family holding great political power. Why then is the marriage of this esteemed man to one of the most eligible girls in Padua such a scandal? Well, it is not the marriage itself that is scandalous but rather the courtship and ceremony. Luncentio disguised himself as a tutor, teaching young Bianca literature and Latin. In between these innocent tasks, he was doing something much less innocent, courting the young lady as if he were a nobleman. He confessed his love to her and they were re-portedly seen by Hortensio and another potential suitor. In discussion be-tween the two suitors, it was said how they “kiss and court!” They were also seen reading The Art of Love when Bianca was overheard stating “And may you prove, sir, master of your art.” To which Lucentio, still at this point disguised as nothing more then a tutor, replied “While you, sweet dear, prove mistress of my heart!” Is this behaviour acceptable to such peo-ple who claim to be of such a noble class?

All the while Tranio, a simple servant of Lucentio, was disguised as his master. He attended feasts and socialised with other Padua nobles as if he were really of their class. This in itself is a great offence, yet not only was he doing that, but also courting Bianca, through the means of her father. Tranio promised in return for her hand in marriage, a great fortune which was not his. This scheme was so inticate and deceptive that it involved tricking an oblivious merchant into dressing as Signior Vincentio. Tranio then referred Signior Baptista to said imposter to verify the truth in the promised dowry. Signior Baptista, ignorant to the disguises, agreed to let the mere servant Tranio marry his daughter, under the false impression he was in fact Lucentio. He was also under the impression that Signior Vin-centio had agreed to both the marriage and the dowry.

The truth was only revealed after the couple went off and got mar-ried in secret, and appeared just in time to stop the false Signior Vin-centio from sending the real Signior Vincentio to prison. The couple arrived both begging pardon from their fathers. Lucentio stating to Signior Baptista “Here’s Lucentio, right son to the right Vincentio, That have by marriage made thy daughter mine. While counterfeit supposes bleared thine eyne.” The matter was soon resolved, with the promised fortune still intact. Sources close to the couple state that they are happily married, and none of the scandals circulating have af-fected their love in the least amount. Yet how could Bianca fall for such a lowly man as a tutor, even if he was truly a nobleman? Is this a story of true love or one of great scandal?

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Alexander - Hi Katherine it’s lovely to get an interview with you. Thanks for agreeing to let us do this and I’m really glad to get the chance to talk to you about whether or not you have changed?

Katherine - I really do think I have changed. I used to be the girl who smashed Lutes on peo-ples heads and caused clamor all over the house for no reasons, but my personality and the way I interact with people now has been drastically altered. However I am not perfect. But who is?

Alexander - That’s great! And whom do you

give the credit to for changing you?

Katherine - Well if I must tell you it is my beloved Petruchio who has sculpted me into a peaceful lady. He made me this woman standing here before you. I used to be a horrible disgusting careless hog until he gave me a shrew-ectomy. Hahahaha. Oh my humor cracks me up sometimes.

Alexander - Hahahaha that’s lovely. How did Petruchio tame you?

Katherine - When we first met I hated Petruchio with all my heart. I can tell you that our relationship was not love at first sight. However at our wedding he arrived disgustingly late and on a marred horse. I began feeling like how eve-ryone around me felt when I treated other people the way he did to me. After our wedding he ignored my needs and took me away and became a huge shrew. I was furious but had no energy to be a shrew because I had not eaten or rested. I began compromising with my husband and we I became a normal wife.

Alexander – So you could say that he gave you a taste of your own medicine?

Katherine – Yeah. I hated him while he treated me like a shrew, but now I love what he has done for me.

Alexander – A lot of people say that there is no new Katherine and it’s all a big fat lie. What do you say about that? Do you have any actions to prove you’re a changed woman?

Katherine – Well of course there will be doubters but I promise you I have changed. The other week on the day of my sisters wedding, for the first time ever I cared about her and genuinely wanted to see her get married. That’s something that no human being can take away from me. It was priceless. So for all people who don’t believe it’s true, you can be the judge. When Petruchio called me to come over I tended to his need when all the other men’s wives didn’t bother moving. I quote myself “What is your will, sir, that you send for me?” (Shakespeare 215) I know without a doubt I am a changed woman.

Alexander – That’s great, and I totally believe you. Thanks so much for com-ing. I’m looking forward to seeing you again. Bye!

My sister and I are having relationship problems. She held me cap-tive, tying my hands together, demanding to know whom I intend to marry. Even though she is older and knows I may not marry until has been married first. I believe she may love one of my suitors by the name of Hortensio, yet when I tell her that I will woo him for her, she just get even more angered. I ask if she does this out of envy, and she just strikes me. I beg her to untie my hands and say I see that she have just been joking the entire time. My husband, whom I do not love, turned up late to our wedding, dressed as a joker, and would not even allow us to stay for the marital feast. My husband in-stead of helping me, just yells at the servant, as if it is his fault. He won’t allow me to eat or sleep, yet he says all the things he does are out of love. When there is food, he claims it is burnt. The bed is never made correctly, not good enough for me to sleep on. He screams at the servants for every little flaw, and creates one when there are none. I am known as “Irksome brawling scold.” Said by my husband himself. Yet he is a bigger shrew then me. What should I do?

You are bound the bond of marriage, and you must accept that. Your husband must be “thy lord, thy king, and thy governor.” You must except what he says as law, and do what pleases him. Although you may hate him now, love and hate are a fine line. You may learn to love him, as he must love you some, as he did marry you. As you said everything he does he claims is out of love, maybe this is true. He wants everything to be perfect for you. Try accepting everything he says. Bend to his will, as that is what a wife does. She tries to please her husband, as he gives her so much. Learn to love him, for his flaws and as well. It is the only thing you can do. One thing is clear in all of this. He does have great feelings for you. Otherwise why would he be going through all this trouble for you?

Even Katherine the shrew is following the new trends so why can’t you? She is quoted saying: “Imprimis, a loose-bodied gown. With a half-circle cape—With a wide sleeve—The sleeves carefully cut.” To go along with your whole put together outfit you will have to top if with the perfect shoes. If you are in the lower class then make sure your shoes are made of stout or fine leather. If you are in the higher class make sure your shoes are made up of velvet or silk.

Wedding Announcements

Signior Baptista Minola is de-lighted to announce the en-gagement of his eldest daughter Katherine Minola to Petruchio of Verona. The wedding shall be held upon Sunday.

Signior Baptista Minola is thrilled to announce the en-gagement of his younger daugh-ter Bianca Minola to Lucentio of Pisa, son of Signior Vincentio Bentivolii of Pisa. The date of the wedding is still undecided.

The widow is happy to an-nounce her own wedding to Hortensio of Padua. The joyful couple are to be married as soon as possible, although a definite date is not yet set.

Why’d She Pick Him?

Hot new news about Bianca and her aroma of suitors. Is Lucentio the real deal?

Leading news about Bianca Minola and her triangle of suitors. She has finally

picked one, and found a husband. After her older sister, the shrew Katherine Minola grow

agitated and was even recorded saying: “Of all thy suitors here I charge thee tell. Whom thou

lovest best. See thou dissemble not.” She finally chose a husband, who is none other then

Lucentio of Pisa. They are all very fine men and all willing to give her everything they have,

so why did she choose Lucentio? The men who are involved in this love fest were Gremio,

Lucentio and Hortensio. An anonymous source has reported that what we have heard before

is not the real story. According to this source some of the suitors were not who they said they

were, and that we needed to watch out because you don’t know whom you can trust. After

pondering this for a few days, I had sent out an investigator to inspect the situation further.

When she returned back, she stated that in fact before the marriage was arranged, Hortensio

had forsworn Bianca’s love. Recently, it has been reported that the tutor was in fact none

other then Lucentio. Did Bianca know who this noble man was when the courtship began?

Why would she fall for her a tutor? Sources close that the bride knew all along that it was

Lucentio and their whirlwind romance is true love. Yet how could she know he was a noble-

man when he first starting teaching her, as they were not out of sight of the other tutor Litio.

With further research we cannot confirm but from the looks of it, Bianca had shown affection

back to Cambio, when he was only a tutor, with little to offer. Maybe that is was why she

could choose between Gremio and Hortensio. From the start she had her heart set on Cam-

bio, without even knowing it was Lucentio. Is this an inappropriate way for a young woman of

her class to behave? Or did true love make her vision clear, enabling her to see Lucentio’s

true value, even when he was masquerading as nothing more then a teacher.

Play Reviews Taming Of The Shrew

Shakespeare’s done it again. Yet another phenomenal plays which entrances you. Throughout this entire comedy you will not stop laughing. Although un-realistic at parts, such as the actions of Katherine, and the lords giving up their positions to their servants. It is still an amazing play and worth the trip to The Globe to see. Four Stars.

If you are having trouble with a shrew then look no further your answers are here. To tame a shrew is a delicate situation. There are many ways to handle taming a shrew. One excellent way to deal with a shrew is to act like one yourself. Treat the shrew like an even bigger shrew. Give him or her a taste of his or her own medicine. This will show them whow you feel. This ingenious plan has worked very well for Petruchio when he tames Katherine. “It shall be seven ere I go to horse. Look what I speak, or do, or think to do, you are still crossing it. Sirs, let’t alone. I will not go today, and, ere I do, It shall be what o’clock I say it is.” (Shakespeare 177) Petruchio insolently threatens Kate that they will not leave until she admits whatever time he says is the correct time. Pe-truchio demonstrates a per-fect way of taming a shrew. He treats Katherine horrible until she is jaded and acts like a civilized human be-ing. Another way to tame a

shrew is by not talking to them. This common tech-nique is commonly called the silent treatment. This will annoy the shrew so badly she will beg you to talk to them. And once the time is right you make your move and start talking to them again. This will teach them a lesson. This has worked many times for young children who are an-gry with their friends. This successful technique will work like a charm. If a shrew is bothering you and none of the techniques above are working there is one last technique that may work. Professionals may only perform this technique. Many may call it the puppy

dog eyes. This evil stare of pointing your head down and looking up hopelessly never fails. The guilt inside someone will eat him or her away until they apologize.
