This season pops with colour from

the top of your head to the tips

of your toes. Add a hit of signature colour with a hot new bag or shoe, wrap yourself

quips Essie Weingarten, founder and creative director of Essie. It certainly

has fueled a healthy business for the New Yorker who celebrates the

brand’s 30th anniversary in 2012 – that’s 700 shades and counting.

Here, from top: Orange, It’s Obvious, Navigate Her and Tour de Finance. Our fave new hue? A pastel

7. Marc Anthony Moisture Gloss Daily Drops The small baby hairs around my temple are incredibly difficult to straighten without branding myself in the process. A dime-sized amount of this smoothed hairs post-straightening without making them look greasy. $10, marcanthony.com

2. Pureology Supersmooth Shampoo & ConditionerWhen it comes to shampoo, I’ve always thought it was what you do after you shampoo that mattered. Not true. Pureology’s Supersmooth Shampoo revolutionized my world. Combined with the conditioner, it added so much shine and volume. $30, pureology.com

3. Revlon Professional’s Style Masters Reset Control Straightening Balm Just a quarter-sized amount made my hair feel weightless and silky smooth once dry. $20, revlonprofessional.com

6. Matrix Blow Total Results Sleek Blow Down Leave-In Cream I applied a small dollop of the Leave-In Cream, then read a magazine for about 20 minutes to allow the light treatment to work its magic. Upon blow-drying, my hair was shinier and felt super-soft. $15, matrixcanada.ca

Circulation Audited by the Canadian Circulation Audit Bureau

10. Rowenta Beauty Infini Pro Auto Sensor Professional Ionic Ceramic Dryer

I have had a long relationship with my hairdryer, so I was skeptical to try the Rowenta Beauty dryer,

but there’s a reason it’s so heavy: it works. The force of the air dried my hair in half the time, which ensured it was super sleek and straight. And the auto-off feature

meant it was easier to maneuver it and my round brush (which I normally can’t be bothered with), so I didn’t

even need to straighten my hair afterward. My entire time in the bathroom was cut in half.

$219, rowentabeauty.com

4. Matrix’s Total Results Moisture Cure 2-Phase Treatment Just a few spritzes to damp hair treated my entire head, so that post-blowdry, it looked silky and shiny – but still moveable. $15, matrixcanada.ca

8. John Frieda Frizz-Ease 100% Shine Glossing MistPost-shower, this worked wonders on my natural curls, so I actually skipped my regular blow-dry routine and left my hair curly for the day – an unheard-of act. It controlled the frizz all day without weighing my hair down. $11, at grocery and drugstores, johnfrieda.ca

9. Revlon Professional’s Equave 2-Phase Hydro Nutritive Conditioner for Dry, Colored, Permed or Highlighted Hair A few sprays of this to damp hair added a much-needed dose of moisture and shine. $17, revlonprofessional.com

5. Revlon Professional’s Pre Tools Defender After blow-drying, I sectioned off my dry and super-puffy hair and applied a few light sprays of Thermal Protector to each area before flat-ironing. The results were beautiful – my pin-straight hair looked healthy, shiny and split-end free. $20, revlonprofessional.com

With so many promise-to-give-you-salon-blowout-results hair products on the market, we enlisted The Kit’s Hair Kit assistant and super-curly hair girl Jamie Lincoln for a 30-day trial of nearly every product on the market. Here are the ones that made her Top 10.

I am pleased to present the premiere issue of Shopaholic, the latest addition to the WEST of the City Magazine family!

When I became editor of WEST of the City, one of the first things I added to an already wonderful publication were pages filled with fantastic new products, along with the latest news about local shops and restaurants.

Over the years the section I playfully named “Shopaholic” has become a favourite with WEST of the City readers. In each issue we continue to offer a fabulous selection of prod-ucts and services for home, garden, fashion, beauty and food, plus seasonal trends.

We now present the concept of Shopaholic in a stunning new format, as a bi-monthly offering to those of you who may not already receive WEST of the City as part of your Metroland Media Group home delivery.

I hope you enjoy reading Shopaholic as much as we’ve enjoyed “shopping” for all the great products you see. Watch for the next issue on June 6.

Keratin Complex Intense Rx Ionic Keratin Protein Restructuring SerumAfter thoroughly working a few pumps of this serum into my hair and brushing through with a comb, I waited for about an hour before blow-drying and then straightening. Bacon rules!Bacon and jam are two things generally loved by all, but have you ever thought of mixing the concepts? Josh Henderson, Skillet Street Food owner and chef did, and we couldn’t be more thankful. Bacon Spread by Skillet Street Food was first introduced through Henderson’s use of the spread on his Seattle-based food truck’s burgers. Consumers loved the unique taste, made from rendered quality bacon, spices and onions that simmer for six hours before being pureed and blast chilled and packaged. The spread is so delicious that Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray have both mentioned it on their shows as a must-have product. Skillet Bacon Spread is available in Original and Fennel & Black Pepper at Cousin’s Food in Mississauga, and Jubilee Fruit Market in Oakville.skilletstreetfood.com
