The following are emails of appreciation regarding our Foundation Shine Gift Boxes

Ann Sved Williams (Medical Unit Head of Helen Mayo House)

"...I saw a large pile of baskets that have been prepared for our consumers when they are discharged. They look so WONDERFUL I just wanted to write and say how thrilled I am that you have undertaken this initiative through Foundation Shine for our patients. I am sure you know that mental health is still the stigmatized poor cousin in health and our mothers and infants are such a deserving group as they struggle with their illnesses. It is so good to know that a group of people are prepared to provide them with something special to lighten their loan, and it must be so exciting for our consumers to feel cared for when they receive the beautiful baskets"... Lydia Forbes Occupational Therapist , Margaret Tobin Centre

"...I think that what your organisation offers is fantastic; it is certainly lovely to come across people who genuinely want to support and assist those with mental health issues, and aide them in feeling that people do listen and care. I feel most, if not all MTC patients would not only appreciate such thoughtful gestures, but genuinely need the items donated, as many are admitted with only the bare essentials (or nothing)"....

A Word from the President

It is hard to believe Christmas and the New Year has been and gone and we are well into 2011 !!

It has been on my mind to write to say a BIG THANK YOU for everyone’s ongoing, amazing, wonderful support of Foundation Shine. We had a very successful 2010 and look forward to continue raising funds for this cause so close to our hearts. We feel extremely proud of what we have achieved in the first two years of operation and are committed to learning so much more about the critical state of Mental Health and where we can continue to help.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Sharon for her tireless work with the administration and marketing. After every function she takes time to write the very detailed newsletters you receive with memorable photos of each event. She also arranged the design and production of our very informative new Shine brochures. These are entirely donated by Whiteline Transport and Whiteline Racing.

We have made multiple deliveries of gift boxes filled with goodies to help cheer the mums working through post natal depression who leave Helen Mayo House. These have been very well received and we are looking forward to donating these each month this year.

Our first batch of gift boxes have been delivered to the eating disorders unit at Flinders Medical Centre, filled with such things as inspirational books, body lotions, notepad, pen, lavender eye pillow – anything which will help the journey of these patients. We note with much regret that this very important until will be closed down within the next year – hard to comprehend !!

We will continue to expand this ‘gift giving’ part of Foundation Shine over the year.

I am very excited to be commencing ‘Flower Power’ classes at Mental Illness Fellowship SA this year as part of their Activity Program. It will be wonderful to share my passion for the beauty of flowers and hopefully bring pleasure to those who participate in the workshops. Sharon is also very keen to share her wonderful talent and be a regular contributor at the MIFSA Music workshops and is chipping away at creating the resources to do so.

This is a small step towards continuing our ultimate dream of one day providing a Shine Respite House where part of our strategy is to conduct our own range of workshops.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank Springfield Help for Small Charities who held two functions last year in which Foundation Shine was the lucky recipient of funds raised. It was a pleasure and privilege to attend the cocktail party in the glorious garden of Jane & Daryl Stillwell where we were presented with a cheque for $20,000. Our heartfelt thanks to the committee who worked so hard to raise this wonderful amount.

Lastly, I would like to thank you for your support and many kind words and wishes on the passing of my beautiful sister, Jenni. From my perspective and that of Foundation Shine, her devastating loss makes us even more determined to help continue to create awareness and stop the huge numbers of people living with mental ill health from falling through the cracks.

Myself, Sharon, Eve and Liam wish everyone a wonderful 2011 filled with sunshine and happiness.

Yours sincerely,

Robyn May President – Foundation Shine Inc.

Corvette Club ‘Rallies’ For Foundation Shine

On Wednesday 2nd February, 2011 Sharon and Robyn were invited to speak to the Committee and Members of the Corvette Club of S.A. at their monthly meeting which took place at the Seton Ramblers Club to talk about Foundation Shine and the work being undertaken.

The atmosphere in the meeting was warm and friendly and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they are a group of people who enjoy each other’s company and share in their love of cars but at the same time, wanting to play their role in the community in helping those who really need it.

They have a long rap sheet in this area, with considerable fund raising efforts targeted towards kids with cancer.

As a result of the meeting, the Corvette Club announced they would dedicate funds raised from their rally in Port Adelaide to be held Sunday 13th February, 2011 to Foundation Shine.

Flower Workshop

7th December, 2010

Robyn hosted and delivered a very inspiring floral workshop, themed at the Festive Season.

The day it was held Adelaide experienced torrential rain and weather conditions which made getting there tricky, but nothing could dampen the spirits of those that attended.

Pre workshop, Mai Loui allowed for a special VIP visit to her Hutt Street boutique followed by the floral class, with beautiful jewellery on show from Ginger Lilly also.

Robyn demonstrated the art of making Christmas wreaths, arrangements, table decorations, vase displays and bow making with lots of finished examples on display.

With drinks and supper provided, this was truly a colourful and enjoyable time together.

Floral Workshop – Springfield Help for Small Charities

Friday, 11th March, Robyn will share her artistic talents with guests from Springfield Help for Small Charities at the Lenzerheide.

Always putting a lot of thought into themes and designs, there is no doubt this will be a very pleasant morning for the ladies attending.

With the street blocked off, the beautiful machines converged, hate to think what their combined value would have been, a band was playing, aromas from the sausage sizzle filling the air, stalls and raffle stands by the Corvette Club and Foundation Shine set the scene.

From 10 am – 3 pm people walked around admiring the beautiful cars and when thirsty a drink at the Port Dock made for a very pleasant day.

Funds from the day have been directed to Mental Illness Fellowship S.A. which amounted to $1000.00 and will assist their counselling department.

Special thanks to the Corvette Club for their support.

Kind regards,Shaz

Springfield Help For Small Charities

As mentioned by Robyn, Springfield Help for Small Charities ran two events in 2010, where Foundation Shine was the fortunate beneficiary.

On Sunday 28th November, 2010, in the glorious gardens of Daryl and Jane Stillwell, the committee made a presentation to Robyn, for the sum of $20,000 to assist with our work in supporting mental illness and mental ill health in our community.

Our sincere thanks to all concerned with the Management and the Committee of Springfield Help for Small Charities, your efforts will make a huge difference in our ability to deliver on our projects.

Our event in July, Xmas in July was to raise

funds for Helen Mayo House, who assist

women with depression and post natal

depression. They badly needed electronic

equipment at their facility to deliver their

services. Here is a pic of Robyn at the

cheque hand over with Mandy and Sue.
