MothersThe sun shone for our special ladies attending what has become a much anticipated event on our Foundation Shine Calendar, our Mothers Day Luncheon.

On arrival, the ladies were greeted with a glass of bubbly and before official proceedings commenced took time to take a peek at what our traders had on display.

This included Ribbon Whirls – Rebecca and Sarah spent many hours preparing their gorgeous table of goods for sale. As a gift for each guest they donated an exquisitely wrapped chocolate bar which coordinated beautifully with the flowers.  They also donated 10% of their takings for the day to Foundation Shine.  Ribbon Whirls is a new venture for the girls who specialize in creating anything from an elegant dessert buffet table to a fun children’s party table.

We can recommend them highly to add that special touch to any event you may be considering.

Ku De Ta, being Mother and Daughter team Barb and Gail Kerley have been selling their stylish jewellery for 7 years and use this time as special moments shared together. They mainly exhibit at charity events and they do party plan also. They donated 10% of their takings for the day to Foundation Shine and a lovely piece of jewellery for our lucky door prize.

Intimo, the Independent Lingerie Stylists were on hand – Sarah and Wendy had garments on display, providing gift vouchers for our raffle and with the beautiful collection from George Gross and Harry Who, ladies had garments on the outside and undercover taken care of !

Bob and Margi manned our amazing ‘lucky dip’ tables which comprised some $4000.00 worth of products donated by Margi Lenzi, Cleveland Freightlines, Robyn May, Barbara Reuter, Kathy Simpkin, Angie Matheson and other supporters. It sold out before our host Eve Goodings could even announce it in her opening comments !!!

Our tables were beautifully decorated with ‘lime green, hot pink and orange’ flowers which were made and donated by Robyn May with special help from Lorraine and Kathy setting up the room. Attached, were very generous donations by Zink the Element of Hair, who supplied vouchers and in addition styled the models hair early that morning.

Tuesday, 8th May, 2012 - Adelaide Pavilion on The Park

Zink – The Element of Hair, has seen Joe and his team at Unley winning so many awards they are too extensive to list, but include Australian Hairdresser of the Year, SA Hair Dresser of the Year, Australian Salon of the Year for 10 years, this year were awarded national finalist for Artistic team.

Well known for her infectious personality, Eve Goodings welcomed our guests, took care of housekeeping and introduced President of Foundation Shine Inc Robyn May to the stage.

Robyn shared the sadness of losing her sister Jenni two years ago and how this is the passion that motivates and drives her to be so committed to Foundation Shine. Robyn also thanked all of our sponsors and supporters for their amazing input to creating a great event.

Eve returned to the stage to introduce the fashion parade and thank Leeann for providing the very glamorous outfits from award winning George Gross and Harry Who. modelled by gorgeous models from Rachel’s Model Management and Training. Kelly Lulic Makeup Artist and Nutritionist provided the makeup services to the models.

There is no doubt the parade had “the wow factor” with great music and choreography by Laura May who travelled from Sydney to help Robyn.

George Gross & Harry Who started their business 37 years ago and in that time have won more than 13 fashion awards and have been best sellers in Australia, USA, Canada and Europe. They know just what women like and design to flatter and hide different shapes and sizes with absolutely stunning garments which any one would be proud to have in their wardrobe. They also very kindly donated a $250.00 voucher as our first prize in the raffle.

Rachel’s Model Management and Training represent models of all ages, shapes and sizes, so if anyone is interested in strutting their stuff on the catwalk, they offer a variety of courses for all ages and their motto is “You are your greatest asset – invest in yourself today”. Rachel apart from donating the models services for our parade, also offered discounts for courses undertaken for those attending the day.

Kelly Lulic has been a makeup artist for 10 years. She was on the state makeup team in Sydney and has done Sydney Fashion Week shows including David Jones, David Lawrence, Mercedes, Chantelle, Anna & Boi & Gucci. She specializes in wedding, photographic, catwalk and formal events. Kelly gave each guest a $25.00 gift voucher.

The lovely ladies from Studio Hats, Heather MacKay Clark, Di Roberton, Lorraine Gill and Cristiana Moore who all met at TAFE topped off our parade with their magnificent hats. They have been the milliners at the Metro for the past 12 years and design one off pieces to match that special outfit, especially for the Melbourne and Adelaide Cup. After the parade, their hats were on display and they donated 10% of their sales to Foundation Shine.

Our first speaker for the day was the very inspiring Julie Milburn of Carer Support. Julie shared her own life experiences and how she used this and the study she undertook to help others. It was evident that Julie’s story had a significant impact on all in the room.

Music then filled the air with Sharon singing her rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow, followed up with what has become our ‘anthem’ Que Sera Sera – Eve was moving around the room with the roving mike for what was a very special sing a long.

The highlight of the day was the very elegant and compassionate Jane Doyle. Jane is well known for her long career presenting the Channel 7 News bulletin each night, but at our day, was there in her capacity as Co-Patron of Mental Illness Fellowship S.A. Jane a mother herself shared stories and thoughts from her own family and in particular emphasized the need for the stigma associated with mental ill health be broken down.

Jane’s words touched the heart and souls of everyone in the room with a reaction that saw spontaneous applause at different intervals.

Eve also shared personal thoughts and experiences, which were so heartfelt and impacted on all our guests.

It is fair to say, as has become synonymous with our events, we shared good food, friendship, laughs, some tears, music and generally just an all round special day together.

So it goes without saying, thank you to you, our supporters and our amazing sponsors because without this we simply cannot achieve and assist those who so desperately need it.

MIFSA is very lucky to have Jane as a

co-Patron and to have the support of

Foundation Shine.  I am so glad that your

Jane, and at an event which celebrates

mothers.  Although my contact with Jane

is often around MIFSA events such as

our annual Volunteers Acknowledgment

Function, Jane and I very quickly and

imagine her connection with your guests

at your Mothers’ Day Lucheon was

Shining souls

Hi Robyn,

I am Julie Milburn CHART Leader ( Carers Hope and Recovery Team) at Carer Support. Please see our website www.carersupport.org.au or call 8379 5777 for further information about our organisation and all that we do. My role is working with families who have a loved one with MH issues. I recently had the opportunity to share some of my personal experiences with mental illness and how they have shaped me to be passionate about my employment with Carer Support. It was an absolute pleasure to contribute to the wonderful Mothers Day luncheon event.

Below is a brief summary of our teams goals. If we can help you, your loved ones or you know others who could benefit from our service, please keep in touch and spread the word.

The overarching aim of CHART is to assist carers and families with the provision of relevant, meaningful and proactive support, information and recovery focused respite services.  Many carers who are just surviving on a day to day basis with serious mental illness in their families may wonder how helpful it is to talk about recovery.  The Living Well Program is an additional service implemented by CHART.  The program supports carers in managing factors that impact on their health and well being and ultimately their caring roles and assists them to look beyond ‘coping with mental illness.’

The lovely ladies from Foundation Shine have been supplying beautiful welcome gift packs for all of our newly registered carers (who care for people with Mental illness). This has been a marvellous supplement to the supports Carer Support are offering.

You can imagine the emotion my sweet niece experienced at that moment! Delta thanked Tyler for her lovely email and said it was one of the nicest things that happened to her that week.  Of course, Tyler told Delta that her phone call was the best thing that had happened to her in ages.   Delta kindly chatted  to Tyler for 15 minutes and told her she now has three angels looking after her. 

She then offered her two VIP tickets to The Voice.

As you can imagine the happy ending was Tyler met Delta - a lovely photo was taken - & she had the best night of her life!  

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Delta, Rachael and Viktoria from the bottom of my heart for caring enough, making the effort and taking the time to lift the spirit of my niece in such a wonderful way. 

I was lucky enough to spend a delightful mother's day weekend in Sydney recently and shared wonderful times with my daughter.  Since I sold my florist shop which I had for 18 years, mother's day has become  a very valued event in my life.

It is also a sad day because it was on this day two years ago we lost my darling sister, who gave up her struggle with life.

Her beautiful fifteen year old daughter was feeling weighed down with the thought of spending mother's day without her precious mum whom she loved and had supported so much.  They had a very close relationship and Tyler was especially not looking  forward to Sunday. 

She is also a young girl who loves the show "The Voice" and had formed a special twitter friendship with Rachael Leahcar  from Adelaide. and Viktoria Bolonia.

She had told them about her tragic loss and how very sad  she was feeling and they now talk each day.  They passed her story on to Delta.

Tyler was also feeling sad for her idol, Delta, who had been receiving some negative publicity. She wrote her a very positive and caring email to hopefully lift her spirits.  Tyler had not been able to face up to school this week and on the Thursday evening she answered the phone to which a "voice" said " Hi Tyler, this is Deltra Goodrem.   I just got home from a function from The Voice, made myself a cup of tea, and thought I need to call and talk to my angel Tyler".

Although there will be no publicity for any of these three lovely ladies involved in this uplifting story I thought it worth publishing in our Shine Newsletter.

A simple message of encouragement can go a long way in helping  a person who is depressed or suffering a mental illness to know that there ARE people out there who do really care.
