Notes from Fr. Joe Wormek

Well, how is your Lent going for you? Have you started yet? Have already found it diffi-cult and have decided this is not for you? Or have been pre y good and you think that you will have a good Lent? No ma er what

your situa on is, use this me that the Lord and the Church has given to you. Did you make the Sta ons of the Cross yet? Do you re-member last year when Fr. Freddy would make a strong pitch and ask you from the pulpit to verbally make a com-mitment to do them? Have you come to Adora on to spend some quiet me in church? Have you done the Sta-

ons of the Cross by yourself in church? Have you a end-ed an extra Mass during the week yet? Have you been reading the li le black book which was available in church? Have you been reading out of the Bible? If you have the internet, have you been ge ng daily messages from various sources which are available? Do you get the parish text messages or internet messages from the par-ish? There are so many avenues available to use to help us during Lent. We just have to choose and let at least one if not more be part of our Lenten Journey. May God guide you this Lent to a deeper rela onship with the Lord Thanks for all you do!!

Prayer Before Mass

Come Holy Spirit and quiet my heart and my head, as I gather with my friends and neighbors to celebrate Mass. I am saint and sinner. Open my ears to Your words. Open my mouth in prayer and song. Open my eyes to see Your mystery in symbol and sign. Open my heart in love for You and my neighbor. Qui-et the thoughts and distrac ons that will keep me from prayer. Strengthen me to take the Mass into my life this week. Amen.

Lindsay Sack Hi, my name is Lindsay Sack. I am married to

Skylar Sack. We have two children named Bailey and Leela. I was raised a Bap st, but when my mom married into a Catholic family, and converted herself, I was introduced to Catholicism for the first me. As me went on and I had a family of my own I felt I needed to rethink the church we needed to grow in. A er being raised Bap st, going to a Lutheran school, then married into a Catholic family, I really feel like the deep roots of Catholicism is the church I wanted my family to grow in

Stewardship Reflec on “’Here I am!’ he answered.” - Genesis 22:11 It is easy to say, “Here I am, Lord,” when we are kneeling in church. But how easy is it to say “Here I am, Lord,” when a neighbor needs our help, when we are invited to join a parish ministry, or when we are asked to provide financial support? O en mes we are called when it’s not convenient for us. Dis-cipleship is not always easy, most of the me it will make us uncomfortable and vulnerable.

Holy Hour Adora on There is s ll a need for volunteers to be available for the late night, early morning hours in case someone cannot make their assigned hour. It would be great to have 3-4 people available to fill in on short no ce if someone is unable to a end their usual hour. Please call Deacon Leon at 636-221-1531 if you can assist in this rewarding endeavor.

Dear Parish Families, May you find comfort in this ar cle.

JESUS WEPT What would make Jesus so overcome with grief that he would cry? The Gospel of Luke recounts the story of Jesus

drawing near to Jerusalem before his triumphal entry. “As he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it (19:41).” Jesus wept because he knew the days were coming when Jerusalem would be destroyed. The thought of the destruc on of Jerusalem brought Jesus to tears. The holy city was, in fact, leveled by the Romans in 70 AD.

The Gospel of John tells the story of the death of a close friend of Jesus, Lazarus. When the grief-stricken Mary and Mar-tha, the sisters of Lazarus, approached Jesus the gospel says, “Jesus wept (11:35).” Jesus weeps with us today for his children who suffer vio-lence. He weeps for families and friends who mourn. Jesus is with us in our tears. People who suffer grief o en feel that God is far away and absent from their situa on. That is when we must be the face of Christ to them. We must accompany them in their sadness and assure them of God’s love and concern by BEING God’s love and concern to them. This sounds daun ng but it need not be complicated. • Don’t avoid people who are grieving. They will feel isolated. • When you don’t know what to say, don’t offer pla tudes.

Just say “I’m so sorry and I’m here for you.” • Don’t blame God for the suffering: by saying “I’m sure God

knows best.” or “God wanted your loved one.” We should-n’t make God into a capricious “people zapper.”

• Some mes the best thing to say is nothing. Instead, listen to them when they want to share their story. Just BE with them if they do not want to talk.

• Assure them, especially children, that God loves them and cares about them.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalm 38:18) Your partner in learning and faith, Mrs. Pahl, Principal
