Some random thoughts by the pastor…

A common ques'on is: ‘Why can’t I feel God?’ The ques'on reflects a similar ques'on asked in today’s first reading from Exodus: ‘Is [God] in our midst or not?’ It oIen seems that we equate the absence of ‘feeling’ God with life happening in a way that we don’t like; and ‘feeling’ the presence of God with life happening in a way that we do like. God – it seems – has to penetrate thousands and thousands of layers, thoughts, and beliefs passed onto us. (Some'mes I wonder if this is not what we call Original Sin.) Even then, God is less a feeling as an unexpected way of ac'ng/rela'ng with another. The example that I have been using is: we are kind to another without our knowing that we have been kind. God is good.

Parish updates: Bishop Tobin has asked that we consider the possibility of the Diocese having a Capital Campaign. A representa've from the company who would undertake the campaign is presently mee'ng with pastors to receive our thoughts. When I meet with the representa've, I would like to have your thoughts. The preliminary case statement for having the campaign include: minor & major seminary programs, priest re'rement & medical program, catholic school tui'on assistance, social service ministries, renova'ons to the Cathedral, and needs of the local parishes (the sharing formula – being considered – is 60% to the diocese & 40% to parishes). I am interested in receiving your posi've and/or nega've input.
