All animals need food to grow, to work and to stay

healthy. They get this energy from the food they eat.

Some animals eat plants. Some animals eat plant eating

animals. Some animals eat both plants and animals.

Classification of animals on the basis of food and eating

habits .

(a)Herbivores: Animals like cows and giraffes eat grass or

green plants. They are plant eating animals.

(b)Carnivores: Animals like lions and tigers eat the flesh

of other animals. They are flesh eating animals. Such

animals are called carnivores.

(c)Omnivores: Animals like crows and beans eat both

plants and flesh of other animals .Such animals are called

omnivores.

(d)Scavenger: Scavenger are animals that consume dead

bodies of other animals and plants.

Scavenger can be either carnivorous and omnivorous for

examples hyena,jackal,vulture and crow.
