Series 100 Smart-Trak™
High Performance Mass Flow Meters and Controllers

Whatever your criteria – low cost, performance, size, flexibility, or
design – Sierra’s new Smart-Trak™ digital mass flow controller is hard to
beat. Ideal for OEM customers and end-users alike, Smart-Trak offers
accurate, reliable performance, an easy-to-use interface, rugged stainless
steel construction, and maximum flexibility – at a very competitive price.
Smart-Trak’s breakthrough Dial-a-Gas capability and pilot module
interface not only let you change flow rates, but also setpoints, output
signals, engineering units, and other critical flow parameters, for up to ten
gases. Accuracy starts at ±1% of
full scale standard or it can be
improved to ±0.7% of reading
plus 0.3% of full scale with our
high accuracy calibration.
Repeatability is ±0.2% of full
scale for ten gases. This means
no more delay or additional cost
for shipping, recalibration and
instrument testing if you need to
make a system change. And, for our OEM and distributor clients, it
provides an opportunity to stock calibrated units for a variety of
applications, and offer your customers faster equipment delivery.
True Digital Performance
Unlike most analog mass flow controllers that are built to order for
specific gases and flow ranges, Smart-Trak lets you adjust instrument
operating parameters to accommodate unexpected application variations.
Should your system requirements change between the time you order
and the time you install, you can easily re-configure Smart-Trak to meet
your new requirements.
Sierra’s Smart-Trak is a completely microprocessor-based
instrument, offering you the highest accuracy and the greatest flexibility.
The instrument’s digital bridge dramatically reduces signal-to-noise ratio.
An RS232 output and two user-selectable analog outputs are available
from the device, including 4-20 mA, 0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, or 1-5 VDC.
These can be easily interfaced with your control system or workstation.
What’s New in Mass Flow?Plenty! Starting with a unique user interface and Dial-a-Gas™ capability, at the lowestprice of any digital mass flow controller. And that’s just the beginning.
Unique Pilot Module Interface
Smart-Trak’s unique pilot module interface is much more than a
display. It replaces expensive control/readout electronics – at a fraction of
the price – and gives you access to a wide variety of control functions via
six push buttons.
The easy-to-use menu lets you configure or change gases, setpoints,
flow ranges, engineering units, valve states, or full-scale values with the
touch of a finger. The pilot module is mounted directly on the instrument
or remotely, up to 50 feet from the flow controller. The remote pilot
module can be wall mounted, panel mounted, or can sit on a tabletop.
Dial-a-Gas Capability
With Smart-Trak, changing gases is as easy
as a finger-touch or a keystroke. The instrument’s
microprocessor is programmed for ten gases that are commonly used in
biotech, pharmaceutical, analytical, and research applications (see
performance specifications). Other gases can be customer-specified and
programmed, making Smart-Trak a truly custom instrument. This all-
digital approach to mass flow measurement ensures specified accuracy
over the entire range of each gas, and provides unequaled stability.
Dial-a-Gas is available via push buttons on the pilot module, or from
your PC. Smart-Trak Software™ is included with every instrument and a
connecting cable lets you view, configure, and change gases and other
operating parameters from any personal computer running Microsoft
Windows™.

A Tough, Smart Va l v e
The Smart-Trak valve sets new standards for mass flow controller
performance and compensates for a wide range of temperature and
pressure variations in the gas stream. User-selectable operating modes –
including closed, normal, and purge – are controlled from the pilot
module or via a remote signal.
Smart-Trak is available with Viton®, Neoprene®, or Kalrez®
elastomers, and a sturdy, molded valve seat ensures accurate
performance over the entire flow range, at pressures up to 500
psig.
Flexible Solution
A familiar footprint, a
variety of product
configurations, and a
simple power supply
are just a few of the
features that make
Smart-Trak a smart
choice for end-
users and OEM
customers alike.
At only 1" x
3" x 5", the instrument offers easy "drop in" replacement of any
mass flow controller. And for remote monitoring and OEM
applications, it provides both digital and analog control without
complex wiring or control boxes. Smart-Trak’s single-sided 24VDC
power input also eliminates the need for an expensive dual-polarity
power supply and simplifies installation.
The all-stainless steel instrument is available in any range from 0-10
sccm to 0-50 slm (nitrogen equivalent) and is suitable for any clean gas
flow, including toxics and corrosives. It can be mounted in any orientation,
and is available with compression, NPT, VCO, and VCR process connections.
For systems that require simple mass flow monitoring, Smart-Trak is
available as a meter, with many of the same features as the controller, but
at a reduced price.
