at EXPO
What is Direct Connect?Direct Connect allows registered MBEs to initiate ameeting at the exhibiting companies’ booth. Your one-page capability brief will be provided to theexhibitor in advance in order for them to prepare foryour introduction. The goal is to enhance the level ofdialogue and connections at EXPO 2014.
How is this different from One-to-One Sessions?One-to-One Sessions are 15-minute meetings scheduled by major corporations who want to speakwith MBEs in specific product/service areas. Thesemeetings are initiated by the corporation. DirectConnect is initiated by the MBE. It helps corporationsprepare for the type of MBE that will be visiting theirbooth.
Where can I find a list of corporations participating inEXPO?For the latest list of exhibitors, visit www.hmsdcexpo.org
Direct Connect is now closed. If you have questions, contact Angela Freeman, [email protected].

Direct Connect!
The One to One Sessions is where key relationships begin. These are pre-arranged meetings with exhibiting corporations and agencies (buying entities) and certifiedMBEs suppliers). The meetings are based on the needs of specific products and services and EXPO registered MBEs who can meet the needs. This is a componentof EXPO that provides added value to buyers targeted needs and MBEs relationshipbuilding.
HMSDC request that all exhibitors participating in the One to One Sessions provide a list of products and services their company currently procures or will procure for future. We will source the needs, identify MBEswho can provide the requested services and provide a list of MBEs for selection. Fifteen minutes meeting will be scheduled with selected MBEs for One to One Sessions on September 25th..
One to One sessions are matched based on the request of the buying agency, selected industry needs or selected MBEs from the early registration list. Meetings are scheduled on a first registered first serve basis.

MBE Bootcamp - September 24th Dr. Leonard Greenhalgh, Professor of Management, Tuck School of Business at DartmouthWhat operational, strategic and technological changes do you need to make to change the futureof your business? At this workshop, you and your top executive management team will learnhow to implement and manage change to be more profitable. The workshop will be held at theGeorge R. Brown Convention Center from 9:00 a.m - 11:00 a.m.
Entrepreneurs are busy people who tend to pay close attention to the task at hand and the everyday problems that arise. They tend not to spend the time planning how to grow and prosper or to refine aspectsof their business to impede success. Without strategic planning and continuous improvement, MBEs are destined to plateau or decline. The Bootcamp concentrates attrition on what MBEs most need to know anddo. Participants focus on their business. They privately fill out a diagnostic questionnaire in preparation forthe session, and they emerge with a To- Do list.
Dr. Greenhalgh is professor of management at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where he hastaught since 1978. He is also Director, Programs for Minority-and Women-Owned Businesses and Director,Native American Business Programs. His research interests include changing workforce demographics, supply chain management, negotiation, top management team effectiveness and managing strategicalliances. He is the author of Minority Business Success: Refocusing on the American Dream.
Corporate Supply Chain InclusionWorkshop
September 24Dr. Leonard Greenhalgh, Professor of Management, Tuck School of Business at DartmouthCorporate supplier diversity programs were originally conceived as a modification of the purchasingprocess. Today, the purchasing function has evolved into supply chain management: what was once a support role has become a strategic role, as corporations have realized that successful outsourcing createscompetitive advantage. Viewed from this best- practice perspective, a good supplier diversity program actu-ally strengthens the supply chain. The business case for supplier diversity is strong, but to make it credibleand actionable, supplier diversity professionals need to understand how supply chain management hasevolved and how the supplier diversity function now fits in. In this interactive session, we explore cutting- edge supply- chain management, the importance of developing suppliers, and the challenges thatmust be addressed if high- potential MBEs are to succeed and benefit the corporations and public sectoragencies they serve. This workshop will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
