Message from Pastor Sarah
In God’s Peace, I
pray that every-
one had some
good re-creation
this summer. I’ve
always liked how
that word works. We think of
recreation as something the park
district does, but it really is about
taking time to create ourselves
again. Maybe we go camping or
“up north.” Maybe we reconnect
with family or take some day
adventures to a new place.
Whatever re-creation was for
you this summer, I pray it was a
time of rest, renewal, and recon-
nection.
For many of us, now that the
school year is back in swing, so
are our usual activities. The kids
go back to school; we close up
the cabin or the pool; we put our
summer clothes away. In the
church, the Sunday after Labor
Day has traditionally been
named Rally Day. Earliest refer-
ences to Rally Day are from the
early 1900s when churches
would rally members back to
church and Sunday school after
summer vacations. They would
have picnics and games and all
kinds of special programs to cel-
ebrate the beginning of the
school year. Rally Day for us this
year is September 8, and we are
We’re also excited to dedi-
cate our newly painted wor-
ship space that day since it’s
had its own re-creation over
the summer. Many, many
thanks to our amazing De-
sign and Property Teams
and especially to Scott
Hamann who managed the
entire project as well as eve-
ryone who’s helped with it.
So many hours were devot-
ed to planning it, scheduling
the workers and touching
base with them, moving
chairs and speakers and
candles and sanctuary and
narthex stuff back and forth,
and everything else that
went into freshening up the
space and making it more
welcoming!
If you find that you need
more opportunities to re-
create, please don’t wait for
next summer. Let God cre-
ate you anew—just as Jesus
promises to do for us when
we live our lives in him: “So
if anyone is in Christ,
there is a new creation:
everything old has
passed away; see, every-
thing has become
new!” (2 Corinthians
5:17)
In God’s Unfailing Grace and
Good Creation, Pastor Sarah
excited at all we’ve got
planned. After the 8:00am
service, everyone is invited
down to the Family Life
Center where we’ll learn
about creation (like, the
very first one) and take
part in some fun and mean-
ingful activities: a pet bless-
ing, a visit from some furry
animals, a play dough sta-
tion, and a family tree sta-
tion to celebrate grandpar-
ents (and great-aunts and
great-uncles) and to plant
actual trees!
After the 10:30am service,
we’ll have a good, old-
fashion church picnic. The
Stewardship Team is
providing ribs (We are talk-
ing about creation, after
all!), the Fellowship Team
is providing hot dogs, the
high schoolers are holding
a bake sale fundraiser, and
we’re asking everyone to
bring their favorite side
dishes to pass. You can still
get your pet blessed, and
the furry friends should be
there, too. This would be a
great day to invite friends
and family to join you, es-
pecially those who don’t
have a church home and
could use one.

Youth News My people hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old – things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his pow-
er, and the wonders he has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next genera-tion would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. Psalm 78:1-7 NIV
Our Sunday School curriculum will follow the Narrative Lectionary bringing hidden stories to life. Kids will hear, see, and engage in the lessons. Our new format will include volunteer services, spiritual videos, games and activities. Registration is open online or in the
church office. Please join us! Scan to Register
