Welcome to the Virtual Madrid Energy ConferenceSEPTEMBER 28 - OCTOBER 2, 2020 Adjusting to the ongoing restrictions derived from COVID-19, this year’s Madrid Energy Conference will be convened in a virtual format across an entire week. But the goals and objectives are unchanged: to address the way that energy is generated, distributed and consumed and the investment needed in Latin America to drive the energy transition. Without question, the COVID-19 pandemic and crisis has led to increasing attention and clamor to redouble efforts toward an energy transition that would help the world reduce C02 emissions. In many countries in Latin America, how to manage hydrocarbons, but with an eye on the energy transition has only been accentuated. With the region still grappling with the pandemic, energy markets roiled, and how to develop a reconstruction and economic recovery agenda, global energy industry leaders and experts will again convene at the Madrid Energy Conference to discuss climate change and the importance of renewables in the European and Latin American energy mix. Participation by over 500 executives, public sector stakeholders and policy makers from over 25 countries makes MEC 2020 the perfect platform for investors and developers across the region to understand how Latin America is navigating the energy transition in a post-pandemic world. Sustainability becomes an opportunity for all organizations in the energy sector to focus on new technologies, energy efficiency, regional integration and reduction of CO2
emissions. Natural gas is set to become the most important fuel in the transition towards renewables in the years to come. When coupled with world class renewables potential, Latin America has all the right resource ingredients to become a global leader in renewable energy investment and development. e Madrid Energy Virtual Conference | Sep. 28 - Oct. 2

MEC: Where Europe & Latin America meet for the energy dialogue
THE WORLD WILL NEED 40% MORE ENERGY BY 2050 – ALL WHILE HAVING TO REDUCE THE CARBON FOOTPRINT
JOIN US at the Madrid Energy Conference 2020 to explore the vast cross-regional opportunities of E&P, infrastructure, renewables and finance. www.iamericas.org/programs/energy-sustainability/the-madrid-energy-conference/
Latin America has shaken up its energy mix with record-setting renewable energy investment and aggressive E&P bid rounds in nearly every major energy-producing country. Will this continue in the current environment?
Regional cooperation is a must for effective energy transition, but is still a contentious issue. Individuated politics, policies, and economics in Latin America create the challenges that slow progress. The region is well-worth investment, but the players are diverse, so too are the solutions. They must be geared toward each country’s abilities, strengths, and limitations.
Signatories to the 2015 Paris Agreement should be well on their way to energy transition by now – and some are. The European Union, is close to meeting its targets. But others, including Latin America, lag behind, as they struggle to square the local need for economic development with the global necessity of low-carbon energy. The strain on budgets in light of COVID-19 are certain to accentuate this dilemma.

The Virtual La Jolla Conference counted more than 50 speakers/panelists, 550 registered participants, six sponsors (Integra Capital; Sempra Energy; ConocoPhillips; FitchRatings; Hartree Partners; Control Risks) and generated an enormous amount of discussion and high-level policy debate. Across one week and over 25 hours of panels, keynote addresses and interactive sessions we mixed analysis and discussion of several critical cross-cutting themes together with our usual country-focused panels. The agenda counted the Minister of Energy of Ecuador, Vice Ministers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and the US Department of Energy (DOE), the Chairman of YPF in Argentina, Chairman of ANH in Colombia and General Manager of Perupetro, as well as the Assistant Secretary for Energy at the US State Department and Executive Secretary of OLADE; several regional CEOs and executives also joined panels.
“Overall a great success, well done. I also wanted to say that the platform you chose was probably the best I've experienced…It worked really seamlessly. Congrats!”

• Experience a tailor made virtual platform offering our community the best possible online event and networking.
“In September 2019, I participated as guest speaker in the Madrid Energy Conference in a panel on “Political Risk in Latin America” the event was very productive as I could explain Argentina’s experience in dealing with the risk of investing in infrastructure, its institutional framework and the quality of its regulatory authorities. I also got to know many players in the energy sector from both Latin America and Europe, it was a great event overall.” Andrés Chambouleyron, ENRE, Argentina
