City administrator Stephanie Ellwein is pleased with the process so far and says Future IQ, the company managing the project, has been impressed with the quality of input. “About 1,300 individuals have responded to our surveys to date,” said Ellwein. “Future IQ has said that we have a highly engaged community, and they’ve been especially pleased with the number of people in their 30s and 40s participating, as well as with the youth participation.” Ellwein says the younger population pushes for more change. “We had high school students who said, ‘Make this a place I can come back to,’” she said. “We have also had a good mix of newcomers and longtime residents, those who live in town and rural residents ... it’s just a nice variety.” There are several pieces of information available on the web portal for the public to view. Reports include: • Details from the original think tank workshop in March. • The community profile benchmark report, which compares Mitchell to similar communities across the country. • A data visualization section with all the data gathered from the online community survey. Filters allow you to explore responses to the survey by various stakeholder groups. The survey is still open for individuals who have not yet completed it, so the data is continually updated. On Sept. 9, the think tank will reconvene with the original participants, however Ellwein says there is room for additional people to be involved. “People may email me or Sonya Moller at the Chamber if they want to participate,” she said. The next steps will involve the determination of Mitchell’s strategic pillars, those key areas where ideas converge, and priorities are set. Once the pillars are fine-tuned, there will be a community presentation, and then the Community Vision & Strategic Action Plan will be adopted. “From that point forward, our community decision-making should rely on those pillars to determine projects and issues,” said Ellwein. “This process should provide our roadmap to ensure that Mitchell continues to thrive and grow in an organized, planned manner into the future.” RIBBON CUTTING The Avera Queen of Peace Wound Care & Hyperbaric Treatment Center treats all wounds, but specialize in those that are slow or difficult to heal. Advanced wound care may include: diagnostic testing (can include vascular testing, blood tests, x-rays), nutritional evaluation, infection control, specialized dressings, pressure-relieving devices, debridement (removal of dead or infected tissue) and patient education. Even the most difficult wounds that have not responded to other treatments may see significant improvements at the Avera center. 525 North Foster | 605-660-4268 | Hours: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 5 Estate Planning Edgewood Assisted Living, 5:30pm 6 First Friday Coffee Mitchell Wesleyan Church, 8am 1st Fridays on Main 6th Ave & Main, 5pm 8 When in Rome Dance Fundraiser Moose Lodge, 8pm 13, 14 Dinner with a Ghost Corn Palace, 8pm 14 Touch the Trucks Northridge Church, 9am Sweat for Vets 5K Run, 2K Kids Run & 2K Walk Corn Palace, 10am 14, 15 SD State Coed Softball Tournamanet 19 Veteran’s Benefits Edgewood Assisted Living, noon Bike Night Back 40, 5pm 20-21 5th Annual DWU Softball Classic Cadwell Park 20-22 Outkast Car Show Mitchell Main Street, time vary 21 National Pedal Pull Corn Palace, 8am 21 Abbott House 80th Anniversary Celebration Performing Arts Center, 7pm 26 The Everly Set Performing Arts Center, 7:30pm 27 Corn Palace Challenge PRCA Extreme 2019 Corn Palace, 7:30pm 001821945r1 WE’LL TAKE YOUR APARTMENT SEARCH TO THE NEXT LEVEL! • 1, 2 & 3 Bedrooms • Secure Building • Fitness Center • Dishwasher & Washer/Dryer • Elevator • Garages Available • Wheel Chair Accessible 1327 W 23rd Ave - Mitchell, SD 605-996-4720 pheasantridgevillage.com All Costello Properties are smoke free and are members of the Mitchell Crime Free Program. 925 West Quince Street 605-996-5700 001813918r1 ALWAYS HIRING!
