SEPTEMBER 2018 RATHMICHAEL PARISH NEWSLETTER www.rathmichael.dublin.anglican.org Dear Parishioners, Ecclesiastes 3 begins… “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance……” And I figure that there is A time to hand on the baton and ease away, rejoicing in the Bus Pass on a ribbon around my neck with all the innocent excitement of a young child winning a medal at the school sports. The Bus Pass is waiting for ole Fred this November but my P45 is expected to issue on the 28 th February 2019. Week by week I play around with a variety of translations of the scriptures in an attempt to apply them to our daily life. It doesn’t always work! But in ‘The Message’ which is a paraphrase of the scriptures, the writer of Ecclesias- tes 12 leaves us in no doubt that there is a time to ‘hang up one’s boots’. Ecclesiastes 12 The Message (MSG) 1-2 Honour and enjoy your Creator while you're still young, Before the years take their toll and your vigour wanes, Before your vision dims and the world blurs And the winter years keep you close to the fire. 3-5 In old age, your body no longer serves you so well. Muscles slacken, grip weakens, joints stiffen. The shades are pulled down on the world. You can’t come and go at will. Things grind to a halt. The hum of the household fades away. You are wakened now by bird-song. Hikes to the mountains are a thing of the past. Even a stroll down the road has its terrors. Your hair turns apple-blossom white, Adorning a fragile and impotent matchstick body. Yes, you’re well on your way to eternal rest, While your friends make plans for your funeral. 6-7 Life, lovely while it lasts, is soon over. Life as we know it, precious and beautiful, ends. The body is put back in the same ground it came from. The spirit returns to God, who first breathed it. The words of the wise prod us to live well. They’re like nails hammered home, holding life together. They are given by God, the one Shepherd. 12-13 But regarding anything beyond this, dear friend, go easy. There’s no end to the publishing of books, and constant study wears you out so you’re no good for anything else. The last and final word is this: Fear God. Do what he tells you. 14 And that’s it. Eventually God will bring everything that we do out into the open and judge it according to its hidden intent, whether it’s good or evil. Fun. God bless. Fred

RATHMICHAEL PARISH

NEWSLETTER

www.rathmichael.dublin.anglican.org

Dear Parishioners,

Ecclesiastes 3 begins…

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to

every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to

plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break

down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to

mourn, and a time to dance……”

And I figure that there is A time to hand on the

baton and ease away, rejoicing in the Bus Pass on

a ribbon around my neck with all the innocent

excitement of a young child winning a medal at the

school sports.

The Bus Pass is waiting for ole Fred this November but my P45 is expected to issue on the 28

th February 2019.

Week by week I play around with a variety of translations of the scriptures in an attempt to apply them to our daily life. It doesn’t always work! But in ‘The Message’ which is a paraphrase of the scriptures, the writer of Ecclesias-tes 12 leaves us in no doubt that there is a time to ‘hang up one’s boots’.

And that’s it. Eventually God will bring everything that we do out into the open and judge it according to its hidden intent, whether it’s good or evil. Fun.

God bless.

PARISH REGISTERS: HOLY MATRIMONY: 3

rd August 2018: Jean Orr & Eamonn Nolan. Holy Moly but all the ‘Clova’ Orr girls have been to

the Rathmichael Altar, and now we are left twiddling our thumbs and missing these lassies who brightened our lives in so many ways in parish and school and in a multitude of ways. Our love and blessings go with each one and their respective spouses and families. 19

th August 2018: Jeffrey Beere & Aisling Woods who will set up their nest in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. The

‘otherness’ or presence of God in their lives expressed by them both at the wedding reception in a very down to earth way augurs well for their future and ours. God bless each couple with much trust and happiness in the ebb and flow of life.
