SEPTEMBER, 2014 BLOG: "HOW AND WHEN TO REPLACE FURNITURE" Furniture replacement is the process no one really looks forward to. There are so many choices. So many places promoting their wares. And sometimes, funds are limited. And sometimes, the vision of the final outcome is based on perfection that is hard to attain. Yet, furniture updating has and will continue to be a favorite past-time for many people because furniture is considered to be one of the major elements in living. In other words, replacing furniture is hard work, and it can seem to be a process that drags on, without much to show for it, when indecision occurs. When someone begins to think about furniture replacement, he or she may think about it for awhile. At some point, decisiveness kicks in, and the person goes on the hunt for new items for his or her immediate environment.

  1. 1. After-all, it is about, what people like and can afford. Not many people are willing to pay an inflated price for something they don't like. Selectivity is very much a part of furniture shopping. FURNITURE REPLACEMENT needs are the type of situations that prompt people to be more immediate in their decisions. Some key items in a furniture store can make a difference in how a room looks. But replacement does not need to be a complete overhaul, or as the fashion world says, a complete make-over. So the question is: How to start small when you need to replace something?
  2. 2. What are the furniture pieces that are commonly replaced? Instead of thinking how you can give your house a complete make-over, like those appealing TV shows or magazine covers, it is better to START SMALL, or in other words, one replacement at a time. MATTRESSES are things that definitely need replacement. Disturbed sleep, partner preferences, and other factors, even how it is constructed to last, can make a replacement earlier than expected. SOFAS are things that need replacement. Color degradation, frame stability, and mechanism and motor operation may occur due to many factors, even frequency of use in comparison to a dining room table that is used only for special occasions. COFFEE TABLES are things that need replacement, as they are prone to more than just an occasional tea- pot being placed upon it. WALL ART is something that needs to be replaced when someone changes a room or grows tired of their current wall decorations. CHAIRS are commonly in need of replacement, when the dowel hole that is for the stretcher becomes larger than the stretcher, and one or more of them become loose. CHAIRS are often treated much more harshly, and they need replacement more frequently. BUNK BEDS take a lot of abuse with the rough and tumble nature of kids. Yet, security is very important, and all parts need to be adjusted and fastened securely, for peace of mind. SECTIONALS Because sectionals are such a centerpiece and a visual point of interest in a person's living room, it is important to keep them from looking run-down. Replacement needs are not only based on duration of time, but also on how the piece is being used. If there is more wear than normal, earlier replacement is commonly necessary. Watch out for the family favorite, your pet. Consider seriously how they are impacting your furniture for better or for worse. (I think we all know that answer.) HOW IS FURNITURE REPLACED? -- COMMON PARTS REPLACEMENT: WHATEVER THE REASON, GET IT FIXED OR REPLACED SPRINGS: These can get squeaky and the noise can give an annoying impression at every sit. The polypropylene-sprayed springs are better to avoid this occurrence. Zig-zag fasteners that cut deep into the wood frame also keep the sinuous wire springs from sagging. UPHOLSTERY: Many customers do not know what it will cost to get a favorite piece of their furniture re- upholstered. A favorite chair can sit in your living room for months, until someone is comfortable with the associated costs of re-upholstery. SEAT, BACK AND ARM COVERS: These can be replaced, sometimes ordered from the manufacturer, without a total replacement of a furniture piece.
  3. 3. GLASS: This commonly gets broken if it is moved or transported carelessly. Replacing a pane of glass can give your pocketbook headaches, but it may be a better solution than buying another higher-priced designer table with glass. SHELVING: Loose items within case goods can sometimes crash, fall, and get damaged upon moving or even during the installation process. Therefore, if your furniture is missing pieces, either when you buy it off the floor somewhere, or after years of use and moving around in your home, it's time to be out with the old and in with the new. As you can see, furniture replacement is not only about one piece, but perhaps, its related components as well. You are more likely to replace a pier of a TV wall unit than you are to buy a replacement for an entire entertainment center. So try, (I know it's hard.) to keep your replacement efforts to a very manageable, realistic proportion. A little progress made, in this regard, opens up many more enjoyable moments of outfitting your place with pieces that resonate with who you are, how you want to live, and what is necessary for you to derive enjoyment from your choices. IT CAN BE EASY TO GET CAUGHT UP IN WORRYING ABOUT THE PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS OF FURNITURE AND PHYSICAL FIT, BUT REPLACING FURNITURE INVOLVES BRINGING IN THE NEW TO ACCOMODATE THE OVERALL FIT, OR FEELING, OF A ROOM, SPACE, OR ENVIRONMENT. THIS IS WHY IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO MAKE UP ONE'S MIND WHEN IT COMES TO FURNITURE. IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO DETERMINE HOW IT WILL LOOK ONCE YOU ACTUALLY GET IT IN THE SPACE.
