South Africa13 April 2021: A security guard was killed and three

people were injured during a Cash-in-Transit robbery

in Gugulethu, Cape Town. A Police spokesperson

said that the perpetrators disarmed the security

officer before they bombed the Cash-in-Transit van.

9 April 2021: Two more suspects were arrested

after a Cash-in-Transit vehicle was robbed by

a group of armed men near the Kalahari Mall in

Upington in the Northern Cape. This brings the total

number of arrests up to three. The suspects reportedly forced

the vehicle off the road and robbed it of nearly 4.5 million rand.

Russia15 April 2021: Metal pallets were stolen from

one of the warehouses located in the Ternovka

microdistrict. Officials noticed a car near one of

the private houses on the street of the Moika River

Embankment in Penza.

14 April 2021: In Kamchatka, police

have identified a suspect in the theft of

460 kilograms of fish. It turned out to be a

previously convicted worker of a fish processing plant.

14 April 2021: Twenty tons of fittings were

stolen from a company’s warehouse located

in the Moskovsky district of Kaliningrad. A

36-year-old who worked as a deputy director at

the LLC is suspected of the theft. According to the police, he

took 12-meter fittings for metal, and spent the proceeds. The

damage is estimated at 1.2 million rubles.

12 April 2021: A warehouse employee was

detained by the Ulyanovsk National Guards.

They were patrolling the streets when they

received reports of the theft. Law enforcement officers arrived at

the warehouse of the online store and found out that after the

end of the shift, an employee collected household appliances,

cosmetics and jewelry, and tried to take them out in his car.

Global14 April 2021: The ICC International Maritime Bureau

(IMB) released its quarterly report on maritime piracy

showing that there was an overall decline in incidents

in the first quarter of 2021. However, they cautioned

that while the number of reported piracy attacks against

commercial shipping declined in 2021, violence against crew is

on the rise with the Gulf of Guinea remaining the world’s piracy

hotspot in 2021.

France12 April 2021: Individuals broke into a garage

accommodating the equipment and utility vehicles

of University Hospital of Nîmes Carémeau. They

stole a utility vehicle in which they transported

gardening equipment and tools belonging to the public hospital,

then broke down a security fence to escape.

9 April 2021: Three men were

arrested this week, suspected of

having committed dozens of thefts of

truck accessories and diesel fuel for months and months. It all

started at the end of November last year with the theft of thirty-

two heavy goods vehicles in a concession in Bourbonnais, in

Toulon-sur-Allier.

6 April 2021: The municipal workshops in

Rosbruck were robbed during the long Easter

weekend. Since then, an investigation has been

opened by the gendarmes of the Behren-lès-

Forbach brigada.

Germany10 April 2021: Within a few hours there were two

very similar attacks on the motorways around

Düsseldorf. Truck drivers on the A57 in the direction

of Krefeld and on the A64 from Neuss were forced to

stop and were then robbed.

Nigeria9 April 2021: Police operatives attached

to the Ojo Division of the Lagos State

Police Command arrested two suspects

for allegedly breaking into a warehouse. The two men broke

into the warehouse and stole goods worth three million Naira

(N3,000,000).

Austria2 April 2021: Four individuals were arrested a few

hours after the robbery of a truck that came to

deliver boxes of cigarettes to a Tobacco bar in the

Etressin district of Vienna. The four suspects were indicted

for aggravated theft in recidivism, criminal association and

destruction of property by dangerous material.

India14 April 2021: A truck was stolen from

Balampur Valley (Vidisha Marg) in the

Dry Sevenia area of the capital Bhopal.

The price of the truck has been stated as four and a half lakh

rupees. The police have registered a case and started searching

for the truck.

14 April 2021: Palwal police have arrested three

robbers of a gang that robs and steals goods of

online delivery companies in different states of the

country. They would break the locks of moving

vehicles, then reseal the locks after stealing the goods for later

resale in Delhi.

13 April 2021: Police from Raas

arrested four men, part of a truck-

trailer theft gang. Two of the men are

stolen truck buyers. One accused man and his partner started

committing thefts in the desire to buy their own truck. Police

apprehended the gang, traveling in a private bus as an operator

and passenger.

North & South America

Brazil13 April 2021: Theft, robbery and diversion of

medicines almost doubled in Minas Gerais

State in 2020, compared to 2019. According

to a survey carried out by TV Globo, based

on data from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa),

the number went from 36 in 2019, to 67 in 2020, an increase of

86%.

13 April 2021: The Military Police recovered a

load of pesticides with an estimated value of R

$ 1,379,726.40 in the municipality of Matão city

(São Paulo State); four members of the gang were

arrested. The crime started while the victim was traveling on

Brigadeiro Faria Lima Highway, when his truck was surrounded

by two other trucks near Matão. During the action, criminals

ordered the victim to stop and get off the truck. Then the driver

was locked in the back and was later released in a cane field.

9 April 2021: In Viradouro city (São Paulo

State), the Military Police recovered boxes

with medicines and rapid COVID-19 tests

(among other goods) that were part of a

shipment estimated at R $ 471,600 stolen a week prior. The

cargo was stolen in the early hours at Armando de Sales Oliveira

Highway (SP-322). Criminals paired the car with the truck

in-transit and fired gunshots into the air, forcing the victim to

stop on the side of the road.

8 April 2021: The Civil Police of Minas Gerais

State arrested a man accused of simulating the

theft of a cargo of beer valued at R $ 162,000.

According to police press office, the 55-year-old

suspect filed a police report stating that he was kidnapped

while driving the truck carrying the drinks, when in fact he had

planned to steal the cargo himself.

Mexico14 April 2021: A load of mixed goods worth MXN $5

million was recovered by authorities in Ecatepec de

Morelos, State of Mexico. The truck was located

by authorities on the Mexico-Piramides Highway,

where a 26-year-old male was arrested for his likely participation

in the theft of the vehicle. Among the products recovered

were 346 cases of alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, various

medications, packages of sugar, and soup packets.

13 April 2021: During the week of

4–11 April, authorities in Guanajuato

secured 29 trucks that were previously

reported stolen or involved in a cargo theft incident. During the

same period, the Office of the Attorney General brought charges

against 21 individuals and initiated 73 investigations for the

crimes of cargo theft, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and fuel

theft, among others.

11 April 2021: Hidalgo authorities

recovered a stolen trailer and arrested

four individuals in Tepeji del Rio. After

receiving the report of a possible hijacking, municipal public

security officers located the truck, which was being escorted

by three individuals aboard a white sedan, on Highway Mexico-

Queretaro. When authorities approached, the driver descended

from the truck and attempted to flee aboard the sedan with his

three accomplices; however, authorities were able to apprehend

the three men and one woman.

U.S. & Canada15 April 2021: Longshoremen at the Montreal

Port initiated a partial strike, likely due to working

conditions and work-life balance. The growing

concern is that the labor dispute may turn into a

full strike, which would significantly affect economic activity and

cause months of container backlogs.

9 April 2021: With the forecast released by

Colorado State University, predicting a particularly

active hurricane season this year, it’s important

for shippers and transport providers to prepare

for potential supply chain disruptions. This heightened risk will

be further exacerbated by the current ongoing challenges faced

due to COVID-19, port congestion, and capacity shortages.
