The organs which give us knowledge about us and our surroundings are called the sense organs.
The sense organs convey everything to the brain. Then they act according to the instructions given by the brain. Therefore they are like windows of our body.
Sense organs
The Eyes
Our eyes are very important and sensitive organs.
They are useful to us to see all the plants, animals and the things around us. The eyelids protect the eyes.
Precautions to be taken to protect our eyes We must wash our eyes with
cool water to prevent dust setting around them.
We must not watch Tele Vision for long. The distance between Tele Vision and our eye must be not than 2.5 metres.
We must protect our eyes
against injuries, so do not play with things that have sharp or pointed edges.
We must take plenty of vegetables like carrots , drumsticks, tomatoes, pumpkin, and fruits like papaya, mango, eggs. Butter, milk, fish, and meat in our food.
Ears
We can listen to sounds through our ears. We have two ears, one on each side of
our head. The outer ear is visible to us. From this
outer ear a narrow canal like part goes inside our head.
At the end of this canal there is a thin membrane called the eardrum.
Precautions to be taken to protect our ears
Our ears are very delicate organs. We must keep them clean
If you are to hear loud noises put your finger or cotton wool in your ears
Do not hit or slap anyone on his or her ear or cheek
Nose
We recognise the smell through nose. We breathe in and breathe out air
through our nose. There are two nostrils and nasal cavities
in our nose
Precautions to be taken to protect our nose
We must keep our nose clean.
Avoid soaking in water for a longer time as far as possible.
Do not put small pebbles, seeds, pencil or matchsticks into your nose.
Do not blow your nose wherever you like. Use a clean handkerchief when you blow your nose or sneeze.
The Tongue Our tongue helps us to swallow our
food. It pushes the food between the when we
chew the food It also helps us to speak It tells us about the taste of food we eat. There are taste buds on our tongue They tell us about different tastes like
sour, bitter, sweet, salt etc.
Precautions to be taken to protect our tongue We should not eat food that is too hot or
too cold.
We should brush our teeth and remove the coating on the tongue regularly.
The Skin
The skin spreads all along our body. It covers and protects all the parts of our
body Our body gets a distinct shape because of
the skin We feel the heat or coldness of things,
their roughness or smoothness through the sense of touch.
Therefore the skin is called a sense organ
Skin
Precautions to be taken to protect our skin
