Interior Nations pass Regional Health and Wellness Plan by Consensus

The interim Interior Regional Health and Wellness Plan was passed by consensus at the March 18-19 Interior Regional Caucus meeting. The Health and Wellness Plan was built from

the ground up.

“The directive by the Interior Region Nation Executive was to ensure we listened to the people. That we do things differ-ently, that we separate technical and governance and we did

this by using the Seven Directives,” said the FNHA’s Regional Director of the Interior, Lisa Montgomery Reid. The Inte-rior Region, credited with coining Directive 1: Community-Driven, Nation-Based spent two months gathering feedback and direction through their Seven Nation assemblies. This process lead to a focus on governance development through the question of “How we are going to work together?” which included updating the Interior Governance structure and the caucus Terms of Reference. The work at the Seven Nation assemblies also resulted in the development of the iRHWP.

Infant/Toddler

Happy Birthday to Adrian and Kimora in May.

With hot, sunny days we like to play outside and explore our beautiful neighbourhood. The babies wear hats outside, every day, all year long. We do this for sun protection and to get in the good habit of wearing a hat. A child may take off the hat a hundred times and we simply help them to put it back on. Children who are over one year will also have sunscreen lotion applied when the UV rays get high. This year we hope to get a few vegetable plants in our garden and maybe some berries too.

Congratulations to Mary Marchand for completing the Infant and Toddler Spe-cialty training at Okanagan College. She will be away for a few weeks at a Practi-cum placement in another daycare cen-tre and we’ll miss her while she’s gone. We are proud of you, Mary!

Wi, From the Speplina Room:

In April we have been learning about all the signs of spring. We went for a nature walk to Komasket Park and on the way the class gathered little peb-bles. The children enjoyed the fresh air; we were listening to robins, looking for rocks and searching for flowers. Nextthe children washed all the rocks we found on our adventure. They are work-ing on a project for the end of the year

gift for their parents, so you will have to wait and see what happened to the special rocks we found. NKMAPLQS CHALLENGE CUP

The 10th annual All Native Nkma-plqs Challenge Cup is in the books for another year.

There were 25 native teams and hock-ey players from all over Western Can-ada and the Yukon taking part in the event in Vernon.

The competitive division was extreme-ly competitive this year with teams from Vernon, Quilchena (Merritt), Kamloops, Blueberry (Fort St.John), Sto:lo (Chilliwack), Hustalen (Chase),

Team Yukon and Big Guy Lake (Prince George) with many current and for-mer junior players representing their respective areas.

In a very fast-paced and rough com-

petitivedivisionfinal,theKamloops10K – an all-star team with players from B.C. and Alberta – prevailed 6-3 over Big Guy Lake from Prince George

Former Pittsburgh Penguin draft pick Casey Pierro Zabotel led the way collecting the hardware for tournament high scorer and tour-nament MVP. Also collecting all-stars from Kamloops were Drew Rose (defense) and Trent Camp-bell (forward). From Big Guy Lake, John French (goalie), Dustin Er-ickson (defense), Ryan Howse (for-ward), and Josh Garneau (forward) all received-all stars. Big Guy lake made it to the final by defeatingTeamYukon in the semifinal ear-lier in the day.

In the masters division, teams from Okanagan, Fort St. James, Quilche-na, Williams Lake, South Okanagan, Al-kali Lake, Butch’s Ban-dits and Moberly Lake competed for bragging rights.

The Okanagan T-Birds went undefeated for the weekend, beating Fort St. James in the final 8-4, making upfor a loss over the same squad a year earlier in themasterfinal.

Fort St. James had ear-lier beaten Moberly Lake

Lakers to return to the final.

While a slightly slower affair, it was still extreme-ly competitive as old rivalries and new ones were renewed. Great to see so many teams and areas represented in both divisions.

In the recreation and ladies divi-

sion teams from Vernon, Merritt, Williams lake, Blue-

berry, Sto:lo, and Canim lake compet-ed for the love of the game, with play-ers ranging in skill from beginner to veteran. Fun was had by all.

The tournament committee would like to thank all volunteers, weekend staff, and the tournament supporters and sponsors.

Also, a special thank you to all the teams and theirs fans – without them, the tournament would not be possible.

COMMUNITY MAY 2014

A Message from the Family of Geoffrey Lawrence.

Thank You for your Sympathy and Caring.

There were friends and family members who were able to be there for us with a warm hug to give... a strong hand to hold. an open ear to listen.. a happymemorytoshare..timetokeepthefirego-ing... and others though not present, did so much to show they care- with a beautiful note.. a gen-erous donation.. a delicious meal... a lovely bou-quet.. Please know your kindness made this sad time a little easier to bear. Your thoughtfulness will be remembered for a long time... Thank youFrom the Family of Geoffrey Lawrence.
