!  9/12/14 - Last day to drop/add classes !  9/15/14 - First day to accept college applications in the

General Office !  10/13/14 - Last Day to submit applications to schools with

early notification deadlines of November 1, 2014 !  11/17/14 - Last day to turn in college applications to have

them submotted before winter break !  1/1/15 - Begin filling out FAFSA for federal student aid !  1/13/15 Financial Aid/Scholarship Night !  1/29/15 Gap Year Fair !  Request mid-year report through parchment.com after !  February 6, 2015

!  3/1/15 Priority deadline for submitting FAFSA !  5/1/15 Deadline to accept offer of admission to most

colleges !  5/4/15 - 5/15/15 AP Testing !  5/21/15 Last Day for Seniors !  6/4/15 Tentative Graduation Day !  6/26/15 Students need to request a final transcript

from parchment.com for the college they plan to attend in the fall

Steps in Applying to College

!  Complete Student Profile and Parent Brag Sheet !  READ DIRECTIONS FOR EACH APPLICATION CAREFULLY! !  Make a master calendar with all due dates and deadlines. !  After completing application online, print out counselor page, secondary school

report or high school report IF college requires additional paper pages. In many cases you will provide the counselor email as part of the online application and paper copies are not needed.

!  Starting 9/15/14 turn in routing slip for each college to the General Office. Remember there is a routing slip for common applications (white) and one for all other applications (purple)

!  Give teachers at least two weeks notification for recommendations. !  It can take up to three weeks after you submit routing slip (and other paper

materials) to the General Office for application to be processed and submitted !  Computers for student use are available in the Counseling Office, Career Center

and Media Center.

Common Application Information

! Over 500 schools use the Common Application. ! Make sure you complete all supplements for each

school. ! Provide your counselor’s email address where asked

and counselor will complete recommendation and school information online.

! Counselor will complete his/her portion AFTER student turns in routing slip. Remember it may take up to three weeks for counselor to complete.

!  Counselor recommendations are based on: !  Student Profile, Parent Brag Sheet, the student

interview and the transcript !  Students will be contacted by their current counselor

if more information is needed for letters !  Students/Parents can provide updated information to

current counselors via email

Staying on Track Senior Year

! Remember WHO is applying to college—encourage and help stay on track but be sure student is doing the work

! Maintain a rigorous schedule the entire year ! Do not drop academic classes second semester ! Admission can be rescinded if grades slip and

academic rigor decreases
