FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL – Jayde McIvor Term 3 is here already and with Mr Callaghan away for two weeks having knee surgery I am honoured to be the Acting Principal of KDHS. I would like to thank Miss Dezotti for taking on the role of Acting Deputy Principal for this time! School Uniform I have been very impressed with the students and wearing their school uniform or at least school colours. Please make sure that during these cold winter months you are sending your child/children to school with either pants or a jumper, better yet, both. It is bitterly cold and students not wearing warm clothing are opening the door to catching a cold or flu. Voluntary Contribution As we are half way through the year already we have only received 55% of our year’s voluntary contributions from Kindergarten to Year 10. Thus far we have received; 55% of Early Childhood contributions (K & PP) 51% of Primary contributions (Year 1 to 6) 59% of Secondary contributions (Year 7 to 10) 51% of Secondary Subject Charges (Year 9 & 10) Overall, the outstanding total is valued at $15,737.95 with an additional $650.00 outstanding for Secondary Subject Charges that are compulsory. This is equivalent to three days a fortnight for an additional teacher to provide extra support to students OR six days a fortnight to provide an additional Education Assistant into the school. Cheques are payable to Kojonup District High School or our Internet Banking Details are: BSB: 306-015 Account No: 4172048 Parent Interview Sessions This afternoon is our annual Parent Interview Session running from 3:30pm to 6:00pm. These sessions are times for you to discuss briefly with your child/children’s teacher/s regarding student achievement, report grades or any concerns you have. Please remember that these are not long interviews and if you feel the need to speak with a particular teacher for a longer period of time please make an appointment to see them at a convenient time for you both. Please remember that if you would like to discuss any matters with me, the door is always open, so please make an appointment via the front office on 9831 2300. I look forward to seeing you all at Mrs Watson & Mrs Clifton’s Year 3 Assembly this Friday at 2:30pm

FROM THE ACTING PRIMARY DEPUTY PRINCIPAL – Morgan Dezotti Welcome back to Term 3 With already a week and half down, Term 3 is off to a flying start! I would like to thank Peter, Jayde and Bob for allowing me the opportunity to be Acting Deputy Principal for Weeks 2 and 3, whilst Jayde is Acting Principal. It has been a valuable opportunity and learning experience. I have certainly been learning a lot and asking many questions along the way. The Year 2 class will be left in the very capable hands of Sophie Atkinson and Sarah Pexton whilst I am in the office. Parent Interviews Thank you to those parents who made an appointment to come in and meet with your child/children’s classroom teacher/s this Thursday. Parent meetings will begin at 3:30pm and run through to 6:00pm. From your allocated starting time you will have a ten minute slot in which you are able to meet with your teacher. Whole School Assembly This first assembly of the term will be held this Friday 31

st July commencing at 2:30pm hosted by the Year 3 class. I am

looking forward to the Year 3’s performance and seeing you all there.

FROM THE SECONDARY DEPUTY PRINCIPAL – Bob Trouchet Students have made a great start to the new semester with almost all students wearing the correct school uniform. They look great in the dark blue school jumpers and parents are encouraged to help us maintain the standard. Timetables have changed and students may have subjects on different days to the first semester. Check with your child so that they can bring a change of clothes for farm, workshop or phys ed on the correct days. Parents have the opportunity to discuss their child’s report with relevant teachers on Thursday 30

th July. Secondary staff

will all be in the Library and are looking forward to meeting parents. School is a preparation for the workforce in many ways. Being at work (or school) on time is an obvious example. Workers need to be prepared for their day with all tools or equipment organised to be productive. Students need to be prepared for their school day as well. It is hard to be successful without pens, paper, books or calculators. Parents are asked to encourage students to make sure that they are organised with everything which they will need for the day. And finally a quote from Benjamin Franklin - “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

SCHOOL CANTEEN A big thank you to Mrs Michelle Moore for going out of her way and picking up our new slushy machine whilst in Perth, and to Warren Porter for organising the drop off. NOTE: Slushy’s will now be $2.00 as we have had a price increase. Our suppliers are now not dealing in Streets ice creams so once our supplies are diminished we will be trying to access school approved ice creams through Nestle. Watch this space for new ice creams and prices in the future.

SQUASH CLINIC On Wednesday the 24

th June students who were in “Good Standing” had the opportunity to take part in a Squash Clinic.

The squash clinic was run by Nigel French, who is the Southwest Squash Development Coordinator for Squash WA. This was a free clinic as the cost was covered by the new Sporting Schools Program; the aim of this program is to encourage school aged children to participate in sport and to develop a healthy and active lifestyle. Students were divided up into year levels and were taught a progression of age appropriate skills. The students had a fantastic and enjoyable day and should be commended for their participation and behaviour. Some students enjoyed it so much that they even attended an after school session which Nigel kindly offered to run. Due to the success of the clinic we will be looking to get Nigel back out again later in the year. I would also like to thank the Squash Club for letting us use the courts.
