Higher Education Institution: University of Oviedo
Country: Spain
State/province: Asturias
Name of the programme: Master's Degree in Web Engineering
Degree awarded:
Master
Qualification Level : Second Level
Programme Objectives;
Profile:
The goal of this Master's Degree in Web
Engineering is to specialize engineers in Web
Technologies.
This Master offers a highly specialized training
in Web Engineering, with a solid background
in all competencies of Computer Science. It
provides students with the necessary
management skills to make decisions within
the business and institutional world in an
increasingly complex and dynamic web
environment.
This Master's programme allows students to
gain access to PhD studies in the field of
Computer Science (if the student decides to
complete his/her doctoral thesis later). The
profile of Doctor in the field of Computer
Science is, nowadays, one of the profiles with
more professional projection because of the
lack of this type of research professionals that
are needed to take up managing positions in
R&D and innovation departments in research
centres and in the business sector.
Programme Duration (Semesters; in case of “terms” of different
length, indicate them and the equivalent in semesters)
Four semesters
Total Number of ECTS Credits Awarded: 120 ECTS
Brief Description of the Programme:
This Master's course consists of 120 ECTS
credits. The programme is designed to provide
students with a single degree with two
possible specializations: professional and
academic. Taking into account both study
tracks, this Master is divided in the following
modules:
Basic module (20,5 ECTS). This first module
has been designed to develop several skills
and capabilities that constitute the basic
foundation for more specialized training later.
Compulsory module (56,5 ECTS). During this
module, students will acquire the main
necessary skills that are compulsory for all the
master's graduate.
Professional specialization module (21 ECTS).
This module consists of specialized subjects to
provide students with specific professional
skills for their future professional career.
Academic specialization module (21 ECTS).
This module has been designed to develop
students' research capabilities. It‘s an
introduction to new technologies that are still
being developed and it includes, in its learning
objectives, those skills that are needed to
conduct researches and for the later
preparation of their doctoral thesis.
Master's Thesis (22 ECTS). Regardless the
study track they choose, all students must
complete their Master's Thesis.
During the school year, subjects are taught in
a sequential and exclusive order, that is, from
the moment a subject begins, students devote
themselves to that subject until it concludes.

Requirements
Accredited with Adjustment
Requirements
Adjustment Requirements:
- The University must provide a budget
for the renewal of classroom computer
equipment and improve the server of
virtualization and other economic
needs that could influence the smooth
running of the degree (perishables,
etc).
- The University must review the access
routes to the Masters in order to enable to all graduates of different areas who come on to the course but who are not from the same informatics background to attend complementary training, when
necessary. For example, currently graduates in Telecommunications can
have direct access to the Masters but as they come from a wide range of areas, these graduates can face difficulties following the curriculum and ensuring that the learning
outcomes established by EQANIE are met at Masters level, especially in relation to basic concepts of computing.
