(a) B e rt h i n g and s hunt i ng o f trains—Trains must normally be berthed on the carriageroad as fol lows:—

6) i n Battersea Pier sidings.(ii) o n the south portion of the carriage road—the complete train must be berthed on

the Battersea Park side o f posi tion l ight signal 126.(ill) o n the bridge portion of the carriage road—the complete train must be berthed on

the Battersea Park side o f posi tion l ight signal 116.When a train is ready to depart from Battersea Pier sidings/carriage road the driver must

telephone the signalman.In emergency trains may be berthed on the North portion of the carriage road between

position l ight signals 115 and 108. The train must be brought to a stand as close as possibleto position l ight signal 115 and the driver must telephone the signalman when this has beendone f rom posi tion l ight signal 108. A f te r a train has been berthed on this portion o f thecarriage road i t mus t not be moved wi thout the permission o f the signalman. W hen thetrain i s ready to depart towards Vic toria, the dri ver mus t telephone the signalman f romposition l i ght signal 116 or 108 whichever is nearer.

The North portion o f the carriage road may, prov ided there is sufficient room, be usedfor shunting purposes.

(b) W o rk i n g o f pas s enge r t ra i ns —W hen spec ial ly authori sed o r i n emergenc ypassenger trains may be diverted via the carriage road. Speed must not exceed 15 m.p.h.

When passenger trains are to pass over the carriage road in the down di rec tion, menmust be appointed as fol lows :—

6) a t Victoria to advise the driver of each train that i t wi l l be routed via the carriageroad; h e mus t i nform the s ignalman when he has given the driver this advice.

(ii) a t pos i tion l ight signal 129 at Battersea Park to exhibi t a red or green handsignalin accordance wi th the aspect displayed.

When passenger tra i ns a re t o pas s ov e r t h e c arri age road i n t h e u p di rec ti on,handsignalmen mus t be appointed at: —

(i) s ignal VC.564; a f ter each train has been brought to a s tand the handsignalmanmust advise the driver that the train is to be diverted via the carriage road, that i tis c lear to position l ight signal 108, and that when signal VC.564 is cleared he mayproceed.

(ii) pos i ti on l ight signal 108 to exhibit a red or green handsignal in accordance wi th theaspect displayed.

If i t i s necessary t o use the carriage road i n bo th di rec tions, s ingle l ine work i ng i naccordance wi th the Rule Book , Sec tion N mus t be ins ti tuted and the above condi tionsalso observed.

No. 1 a n d 2 Centra l c arri age s idings . —When a train is ready to depart f rom thesesidings the guard or shunter must advise the signalman by means of the appropriate 'trainready to s tart ' plunger.

Diesel mul t i p l e un i t trai ns —Fume ex trac tor units are provided on platforms 14 and 15only. W hen, therefore i f i t is necessary for diesel mul tiple uni t trains to run to platforms9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 18 o r 19, they mus t s top wi th the leading c ab oppos i te the specialstopping marks , pos i tioned approx imately 60 yards from the buffer stops.

SELHURST

Shunti ng mov ements . Crews of trains shunting from the up s low to down s low linesmust change ends at the up s low l ine platform.

PURLEY

Down s iding. When a train or locomotive is ready to leave the down siding, the drivermust telephone the signalman. The train mus t not, however, be moved unti l the relevantshunting signal has been c leared.

Mari nex s iding. When propel l ing movements are made into this siding the locomotivemust be driven f rom the leading c ab in the di rec tion o f travel. The guard o r shunter incharge must ensure that the door of the hopper wagon next to the locomotive is positionedover the end o f the conveyor bel t before unloading commences.

STOATS NE S T J UNCTI ON

Rule B ook , Sec ti on H, c lause 3.5.1. Drivers of down trains via Earlswood may accepta signal cleared for an al ternative route wi thout s topping to ascertain the reason prov idedthe train is not booked to call at any intermediate s tation on the scheduled route.

REEDHAM S IDINGS

Reedham Sidings . Except in emergency or when specially authorised No 1 siding mustremain c lear for recessing oi l trains close to the buffer stops. A second oil train mus t notbe placed in the siding except in emergency.

Engineer's trains/vehic les may be stabled in the run-round (No 21 siding.

RED HILL

Trowers s iding. Inwards trains must not exceed 21 SLU. Bogie vehicles are prohibi ted.When propel l ing to the siding, drivers must stop wi th the locomotive between the siding

outlet signal and the board worded 'Stop. Proceed when authorised' and awai t instructionsfrom the guard.

British Industrial Sand s taff wi l l close the level crossing to road traffic and advise theguard when i t is safe for a movement to cross the roadway. They wil l also open the levelcrossing to road traffic af ter all movements have been completed.

Down and up Redhi l l l i nes—In order to clear a platform line the down and up Redhil llines i n the s tation may be used f o r l imi ted periods fo r the pos i tioning o f unattendedcoaching s toc k whi c h i s defec tive a n d /o r f o r whi c h a tra i n c re w i s n o t immediatelyavailable.

Loco. s i di ngs . Drivers o f locomotives and mul tiple uni ts arriv ing i n the sidings mus tobtain the ins truc tions o f the train c rew supervisor.

Authori ty must be obtained from the signalman before any movement proceeds towardsthe ex i t signal and care mus t be taken to ensure that no conflicting movements are beingmade. The driver mus t telephone the signalman i f the movement is unaccompanied by aguard, s hunter o r Engineer's representative.

EAR LSWOOD

Rule Book , Sec ti on H, c lause 3.5.1. Drivers of up trains via Purley may accept a signalcleared for an al ternative route wi thout s topping to ascertain the reason provided the trainis not booked to call a t any intermediate s tation on the scheduled route.

GA TW ICK A I RP ORT

Tri p wi res . Tri p wires, 12 feet high, are prov ided on both sides of the rai lway extendingfor the width of the fl ight path and will be broken i f an ai rcraft approaches at a dangerouslylow level when tak ing o f f or landing. In addi tion, two red beacons on posts are prov ided,one 13 feet in height on the down side near the points leading from the down platform loopto the down through l ine, and the other 18 feet in height on the up side near the handpoints that lead f rom the shunt neck to nos. 2 and 3 sidings. 'Crash warni ng' sirens areprovided.

The breakage o f the tri p wi res wi l l have the fol lowing effec t:—1. Th e crash warni ng sirens wi l l sound.2. Th e red beacons wi l l commence to flash.3. Th e undermentioned signals wi l l be placed o r maintained at danger:—

Porti ons detac hed f ro m tra i ns . W hen the detached portion of a train wi l l remain atthe pl atform t o awai t a subsequent attac hment, t h e s hunter mus t, a f te r mak ing thedetachment, close and secure the outer gangway door and the driver remaining wi th theportion mus t al ter the route indicator so that the red panels are exhibited and i l luminated.

No. 6 p l a t f o rm l i ne (d o wn p l a t f o rm l oop). Locomotive hauled coaching stock, no texceeding 11 vehic les, may be berthed prov ided at least one brake vehicle is inc luded inthe formati on. A lamp displaying a red aspect mus t be placed at each end o f the train.

Long s i di ng. The handpoints situated at the station end of this siding, giv ing access tothe oi l s iding, mus t normal ly be set fo r the long siding.

Before a train enters this siding, the person in charge must satisfy himself that the hand-points are correc tly set fo r the movement and advise the signalman accordingly.

Up s idings . When a train is ready to depart from the sidings the guard or shunter mustadvise the signalman by operation o f the 'trai n ready to s tart ' plunger.

CRAWLEY NE W Y A RD

Reception road . Upon completion o f shunting the guard and the shunter in chargemust ensure that the reception road is l eft c lear. A train may , howev er, be left on thereception road i f there is no suitable s iding accommodation available.

Before a train leaves the yard the guard or shunter must advise the signalman whetherthe reception road wi l l be left c lear after i ts departure.

Ready Mi x ed Conc re te Ho p p e r s i di ng.1. A train requi ring to enter the sidings mus t on arrival a t Crawley New Yard, be run

round, and propel led to the sidings.2. Th e guard mus t obtain the permission o f the person-in-charge o f the sidings.3. W hen propel l ing into the sidings the train must be brought to a stand wi th the vehicle

next to the locomotive over the discharge hopper.4. Th e train wi l l be unloaded one vehicle at a time over the discharge hopper under the

control o f the person-in-charge o f the discharge point.5. Mov ements i n t h e s idings a re c ontrol l ed b y wh i t e l i ghts , wh i c h a re normal l y

extinguished.6. A Klaxon ho rn wi l l s ound wh e n the l ights are i l luminated t o wa rn s ta f f o f t ra i n

charge o f the discharge point.8. Three whi te l ights are prov ided back to back to control movements in ei ther direction

with a t least one l ight in v iew of the driver at all times.The whi te l ight applications are as fol lows:—

0) —Whi te l ights continuous ly i l luminated — D r i v e r authorised to movetowards whi te l ights.

(ii) —Whi te l ights extinguished — D r i v e r mus t immediately bringmovement to a s tand.

9. Defec ti ve vehicles mus t be placed in the cripple sidings via the reception sidings.10. I n the event of a fai lure of the whi te l ights, RMC s taff mus t be advised immediately .

During a fai l ure any movements mus t be made wi th handsignals under ex tremecaution.

B RIGHTON

Inc l ine ro a d b e t w e e n t o p y a rd a n d l o w e r y a rd . W h e n d o wn mov ements a repropelled a brakevan equipped wi th a red l ight must be prov ided as the leading vehicle inaccordance wi th the Rule Book , Section H, Clause 8. Up movements must be hauled wi tha brakevan at the rear.

All movements must be continuously braked throughout and marshalled in accordancewith the instructions 'Marshal l ing of ful ly -fi tted and not-ful ly -fi tted trains composed of ai ror vacuum-braked vehicles wi th a proporti on o f piped-only vehicles' in Section C o f theWorking Manual whi te pages. The minimum brake force for movements worked by Class

08 or 09 locomotives is as s hown in Section H o f the Work ing Manual whi te pages.Speed mus t n o t exceed 10 m.p.h. i n the d o wn di rec tion and 15 m.p.h. i n the up

direction.

Top yard—Vehic les mus t not be left on the goods reception/departure road.When y a rd s ta f f a re n o t o n du ty , t h e gua rd mus t , o n c ompleti on o f s hunti ng

movements, advise the signalman at Three Bridges whether any vehicles have been placedin the shunt neck and the ex tent to which i t is unoccupied.

During t h e time that the yard is uns taffed the s ignalman wi l l no t permi t a second o rsubsequent movement to enter unti l permission has been obtained from the guard of anytrain, o r driver in the case o f a l ight locomotive, al ready in the yard.

NEW CROS S GA TE

Mul ti ple uni t trains no t exceeding 12 cars shunting t o thedown carriage sidings f rom the down fas t l ine, down s low l ine or Brock ley Bank No. 1siding may be driven from the rear cab into the down carriage sidings to a point adjacentto the shunter's lobby where the driver must change ends before driv ing on to the bufferstops.

Up direction multiple uni t trains, not exceeding 12 cars, may be driven from the rear cabfrom the down carriage s idings t o Broc k ley Bank No. 1 s iding, s topping immediatelybehind pos i tion l ight signal 1582.

The Ins truc tion 'Shunting movements wi th locomotives running l ight, mul tiple uni t andpush Et pul l trains ' i n Part 5 is modified accordingly .

Up y a rd .Carriage was hing machine. A l l movements wi l l be under the control o f the person in

charge. Non-c orri dor stock may be propel led through the washing machine but must notexceed 9 coaches.

Millers sidings. Owi n g t o space res tric tion 'S top, d o no t pass wi thout shunters per-mission' noti ce boards are not prov ided beside every siding.

It mus t be unders tood that the three arrowed notice boards prov ided apply to move-ments f rom all sidings, inc luding movements s tanding ahead o f the boards.

Nos. 1, 2 / 3 up sidings (shed roads & Gatwick sidings) and field sidings. Warning l ightsare prov ided above the notice boards applicable to these sidings. A red l ight is exhibited

towards the buffer stops and a whi te l ight towards London when the points between thewharf road and the running lines are reversed. When the red l ights are extinguished driversare in no way relieved of the responsibil ity of obtaining the shunter's permission before anymovement is made.

Nos. 2 and 3 up s idings—Multiple uni t movements. Trains not exceeding 12 cars maybe driven into these sidings from other than the leading cab for shunting purposes providedthe s iding concerned is c lear to the buffer stops.

Such movements mus t be brought t o a s tand immediately the trai n i s c lear o f theconnections t o o ther s idings. Th e ins truc tion 'Shunt i ng movements wi th locomotives

running l ight, mul tiple uni t and push Et pul l trains ' i n Part 4 is modified accordingly .If i t is necessary fo r a mul tiple un i t mov ement exceeding 12 cars , o r f o r any other

formation to be brought closer to the buffer stops, the movement must be driven from theleading end.

Locomotive powered movements. Because of the di fficulty in v iewing the signals at thecountry end of the down platforms, locomotive powered movements which shunt from theLondon end of the station to these platform lines mus t, whenever practicable, be hauled,locomotives running round thei r trains in the carriage roads when necessary.

If i t is not practicable for a movement to be hauled, the signalman mus t be consul ted.

Working of unfitted internal user wagons. Whenever unfitted wagons are moved ineither direction between the Engineer's material depot and the P.A.D. sidings a brakevan,in which the shunter mus t ride, mus t be attached to the vehicle furthes t f rom the loco-motive.

NORW OOD J UNCTI ON

A board worded 'S top. Do not proceed wi thout shunter's permission' is prov ided on thegoods road together wi th an associated telephone at the East Croydon end o f the run-round points . Permission to pass the 'S top ' board mus t be obtained from the person incharge o f shunting.

Up s l ow l ine platforms—Class 455 units . To avoid the possibility of passengersalighting f rom any portion o f a train which is beyond the end o f platform 2, guards mus trelease only the doors on the nears ide o f the train adjacent to platform 1.

FORD

When posi tion l ight signal 53 is c leared i t indicates that the line is c lear to signal AR.8or AR.35 as the case may be. W hen up passenger trains s tart from the down platform i twill not be necessary to appoint the handsignalman stipulated in the Instruction 'S tarti ngof passenger trains where no s top signal is prov ided' in Part 4.

DRAY TON

The locomotive, after propell ing the train into Francis Parker Ltd. siding, mus t stop clearof the connection wi th the main l ine and the guard mus t ascertain f rom the person i ncharge of the unloading depot whether the line is clear. A fter ensuring that the handpointsat the Chichester end o f the run-round loop are correctly set he may authorise the driverto propel the train Onto the discharge hoppers , the locomotive coming to a s tand at thelocomotive prohibi tion board. The train may then pul l forward s lowly whi ls t the wagonsare unloaded. W hen this has been completed the locomotive mus t run round the train.

CHICHESTER

When the yard is uns taffed, guards mus t: —(1) B erth train and pin down brakes as necessary.(2) Release locomotive in conjunc tion wi th the signalman.(3) Authori s e driver to pass the 'S top ' board as necessary.(4) S hunt , detach and attach wagons as necessary.(5) Leave the yard points in pos i tion as di rected by the signalman.No. 1 up wes t siding must normally be used only for down direction movements and No.

2 up west siding only for up direction movements. Exceptionally, ei ther siding may be usedin ei ther di rec tion.

Unless the s ignalman o r shunter gives instructions to the contrary , trains entering theup yard at the Chichester station end mus t proceed to No. 1 up wes t siding. Movementsmust not enter No. 2 up west siding from the Chichester station end or proceed along thatsiding in the di rec tion o f Fishbourne Crossing wi thout the signalman's permission.

FRATTON

No movement must enter or leave the depot, nor any shunt movement from one sidingto another be al lowed to take place, unless pri or agreement has been reached between theperson in charge of ground frame 'A ' and the senior railman (shunter), o r other person incharge o f traffic .

Shunti ng movements are authorised i nto the occupied sectionbetween Tunbridge Wells West 'B ' and Tunbridge Wells West 'A ' signal boxes, to permi tattaching o r detaching to take place, o r to shunt a l ight locomotive or empty train whenthe line is occupied by a train o r vehicles not conveying passengers.

A competent person mus t ride in theleading c ab. Prov ided the i l luminated s ign displays 'Go ' o r 'Go ' and 'Rins e', t he fi rs tsentence o f the ins truc tion 'Carri age Washing Machines ' i n part 4 wi l l no t apply to areturning movement through the washing machine and such movement may travel at aspeed not exceeding 10 m.p.h.

W ILLINGDON J UNCTI ON TO OREBETWEEN HAS TI NGS A N D ORE

A train mus t not be propel led, nor may a shunting movement be made, on the up l inebetween the ' t o Ry e' fi rs t advanced s tarti ng signal (EDL.11), and the 'Limi t o f Shunt 'indicator at Ore. A trai n mus t no t be propel led i n the ri ght di rec tion on the down l inebetween the down fi rs t Outer home signal (EDL.83), and the inner home signals.

ORE

Termi nat i ng tra i ns . On arrival of a terminating train from Hastings the trainmen mus tchange ends at the platform and the guard mus t ride in the leading cab for the set backmovement towards the up s iding preparatory to the train being shunted to the carriageshed sidings o r to the down l ine.

Carri age s hed /y ard s idings . Before any movement is made towards signal EDL.14 atthe ex i t f rom the sidings, the person i n charge o f the movement mus t proceed to thetelephone at the mouth o f the carriage shed between Nos. 1 and 2 carriage shed sidingsand advise the signalman that the movement concerned is ready, and act upon any instruc-

CEGB s i di ng. A roadway crosses this siding and the Engineer at the Generating Stationmust be advised by the signalman at Hastings before the siding is required to be used, andthe Engineer wi l l prov ide a man to safeguard the level crossing.

Shunting operations mus t not commence unti l the gates have been locked against theroadway by the CEGB representative and the BR person in charge has possession of thelevel crossing keys. Upon completion of the shunting operations, the BR person in chargemust immediately return the level cross ing keys to the CEGB representative.

A board worded 'Engine Position Guide Board' is positioned on the buffer stops side ofthe level crossing and the driver must position his train in accordance wi th the instructionsgiven by the person in charge o f movements .

A f ter the run-round movement has beencompleted and a satis factory brake tes t carried Out, the locomotive mus t propel the traintowards the loading plant and bring i t to a stand wi th the locomotive cab at the stop boardlocated approx imately 200 yards on the approach side o f the loading plant. Authori ty toproceed f rom this point is given by a two-aspec t (red-green) colour l ight signal located onthe gi rder on the approach side of the loading plant and operated by the person-in-chargeof the depot from the control room. When a green l ight is exhibited, the driver is authorisedto propel the wagons under the loading plant, the locomotive stopping opposite the loco-motive prohibi tion board prov ided immediately on the approach side of the loading plant.Should the green l ight be extinguished for any reason the driver must immediately stop thetrain and not proceed unti l the guard has ascertained from the person-in-charge that themovement may re-commence.

After the fi rs t s ix wagons have been loaded, the train mus t pul l forward to al l ow theremainder to be loaded.

When the train is about to depart from [av ant, the guard must telephone the signalmanat Fishbourne Crossing f rom the control room.

BATTERSEA Y ARD
