Dear Friends

As I look out of the window it is cold and raining with the threat of sleet. It has been a long cold January and Feb-ruary but the snowdrops are out and the daffodils are trying to come through so spring is on its way.

Well what has been happening since the last bulletin? We enjoyed a very good Christmas meeting at the Red Lea with a raffle, quiz and a bring and buy stall. We had lots of fun and laughs and managed to raise £236-40 for home charities. We continued to celebrate Christmas with a lovely meal at the Yew Tree organised by Margot (many thanks Margot ) and I had the privilege of read-ing lessons at the Carol Services of both the Scar-borough Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Scar-borough Cavaliers.

The New Year started with our meeting in Scalby Church Rooms as we sat down to a lovely meal prepared by Eve-lyn Laidler followed by a very interesting talk by the Rev Alan Brown. What was extra special about the meeting was the tremendous donations you all brought for the Rainbow Centre. We filled four cars with sleeping bags,

duvets, pillows, towels, toiletries and new clothes in addi-tion to bags full of food. Trish Kinsella (Manager of the Centre) was absolutely delighted and immediately took two towels and some toiletries to give to a homeless lady to enable her to have a shower. Thank you again for your wonderful generosity.

Our next fund raising event for the Rainbow Centre will be a coffee morning at Christine J‘s on Wednesday April 25th when we will be selling bags and scarfs, so please raid your wardrobes for any good quality bags and scarfs you no longer use, then come along to Christine’s to have a coffee and replace the ones you have donated by buying more !!

Our International meeting organised by Christine G was excellent. John Walker gave us a really informative talk about the work of his charity in Ghana and explained how sand dams are constructed. He was delighted with our donation of £300 which he said would not only purchase an aqua box but would also pay for transport costs to take it to Africa.

We now look forward to Charter Day and to the Inner Wheel Conference in Bournemouth (18th -21st March) which four of us will be attending and I am sure we will have plenty of news to report back to you .

Finally as I finish I must thank my superb committee for all their hard work and to thank all of you for the support and friendship you give me in In-ner Wheel

This is Liz and I on our Rhine River Cruise in December.

We are drinking a wonderful warming coffee at the Christmas Market in Rudesheim.

The coffee was made with cream and a brandy called Asbach,

Joan and Liz - Christmas Rhine Cruise

We travelled in style from the boat to the Eu-ro Train. 3.5 hrs on the Bayern Munich football team coach!!

Such luxury, lots of leg room and wide leather seats with wide arm rests. Super time and we might just do it again! Joa F

Day 1 We concentrated on the Geyser Ba-sins (GB) starting at the West Thumb GB which is on the edge of Lake Yellowstone. It has hot springs and steam vents but no geysers. It reminded us of when we were in Rotorua in New Zealand.

We then drove to the Upper GB where the famous geyser ‘Old Faithful’ is. We saw it go off twice, but the real highlight was that we saw an even big-ger and better one go off

called the Bee Hive. It is less predictable and only goes off once every 12-17 hours. What luck and absolutely amazing. It lasted five minutes and really got the adrenalin going as we were stood right next to it! We also visited the Lower GB and the Norris GB seeing not only geysers but lots of colourful hot springs.

Day 2 Today we went to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We walked half a mile down one of the trails along the south rim to see some fabulous views up the canyon. We then drove the north rim of the canyon which has some lookout points. Stun-ning scenery.

After leaving the canyon area we drove up and over the Dunraven Pass where there was still snow around after the ‘bad winter’ we keep hearing about. Then it was down to the Yel-lowstone Lake Hotel for our overnight stay with a wonderful lake view.

Day 3 Today started with a drive up the Haydon Valley where we saw Buf-falo and Elk. We then continued rough the park to Mammoth Springs.

Mam-moth Springs is an area of hot springs that calcify into some amazing formations. A ‘must see’ in Yellowstone.

After leaving the springs we then drove through the Lamar Valley out to Cooke City for our overnight stay in real cowboy country.

A beer and a burger in the local saloon and an early night.

Day 4 Up early and off at 6am look-ing for Wolves. Unfortunately they were too far away for us to see. People were out in their dozens with tele-scopes and lenses as long as your arm. But the early start was not in vain as we saw two young Moose playing in a creek and also a Badgers Set with the young ones popping their heads up.

After a fabulous morning with all the animals, seeing lots more Buffalo and Elk in the Lamar Valley, we headed out of the park through the Roosevelt Arch, heading back up to Montana to our last stop, the Glacier National Park.

Didn’t see Yogi ! Linda D
