For this exercise, write sentence with characters from movies using the expression “played by” and the actor’s name.

Example: Iron man is played by Robert Downey Jr.

Activity 2. Copy the following information in your notebooks about the past perfect. (Take pictures.

PAST PERFECT

We form the past perfect with subject + had / hadn’t + past participle.

We use the past perfect in the following situations:

For actions that happened or situations that were true before a time that we’re talking about in the past.

Page 3: secundariajuanadeasbaje.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewIn your student’s book page 87 complete exercise 1 using the past perfect with the information in the box. Producto a entregar:

Example: They day of the exam, Jim had studied everything in the whole book.

Time we’re talking about: the day of the examAction that happened before that: studied everything in the whole book.

We mainly use the past perfect when we talk about two things that happened at different times.

Example: They abandoned the project because of the various problems they had had.

First: they had problems. (For the first action use past perfect)Second: they abandoned the project. (For the second action use simple past)

To show that the order of verbs in a story is not the same as the order of the event as they happened. It’s commonly used with the verbs “say” and “think”.

Example: John sat and began to think about the strange things that had just happened to him.

First: strange things happened.Second: John sat and began to think.

We often use before, after and the adverbs already, never, ever, yet and just with the past perfect.

Examples:

- My friends arrived at the party after we’d left.- I hadn’t seen a black and white movie before that.- When I arrived to school I had already eaten breakfast.- Had you ever studied grammar in your language?- Did you take my glass? I hadn’t finished my juice yet.- She’d just finished tidying up when her mom came home.

Positions of adverbs:

- Already and just go in the middle of sentences before the verb.- Ever goes before the verb in questions.- Yet normally goes at the end in negative statements or questions.
