Taking one of my many drives through Seaward Estate, especially during school holidays…it seems it is all we do! ‘Mom’s taxi’ can ring no truer than now! Okay, so back to the drive. It is always so interesting to see those jogging with their dogs, young kids being taken for walks either in a pram or with a gran or domestic worker; there is always something going on somewhere. The monkeys found a black bag and were sitting around it like it was a Christmas table – bad monkeys (but oh so cute actually!). Then I saw the cutest puppy being loving held by his, I assume, new owner! It was just another drive that reminded me of the blessing of Ballito and this estate.

Today, I was sad to see how dry - mostly dead - our grass is on our verges and in our homes. This drought has truly hit us hard; I have never seen it this bad in the

10 years we have been in Ballito. The need to pray for rain is very real. November rain is predicted, so now we need a miracle (back to those prayers).

Today in my shorts, slops and vest shirt, I’m cold. (Yes, I know blah blah blah JHB…I’M COLD right here in Ballito!) I’m hoping the beach won’t be too windy; again I don’t want to be more miserable and colder. Yesterday was a lovely day down at the Ballito Pro - the sun was out and I was boasting to my brother I.L. in Cape Town, about how awesome our winters down here are…so, I guess today I get to taste a bit of cold. But tomorrow will be better I’m sure! (Cold rant over, LOL!)

So, to a blessed and prayerfully wet winter…

‘Til next month, be safe, be warm! Cuddles and hot chocolate! Go for it!

We STILL await the Judgement call for the Destiny Life purchase; once we have it things really start rolling. Hopefully on the very important things we will achieve will be start to being able to communicate more on a one on one level.

Even our Bunny Huggers SDP have got revved up and have at their expense purchased a ride on lawn mower, this will assist in releasing the staff normally used to cut the larger grassed areas to be redeployed on other on other staff.

Whilst in the berg we popped into a few of the resorts to be nosey, they have many of the same issues we do, the primary one being a lack of water which is playing havoc on landscaping – more and more of the resorts are turning away from fancy exotic plants and settling for indigenous which survive better in our current weather issues.

There is a lot of work ahead in the next few months one of the main issues being the new budget – if there are any specific requests please can you drop me a mail with motivation so they can be considered.

Have a great winter

from the estate managers desk

Aren’t the Berg Wizards wonderful this, one week in a different climate with the required altitude and the lovely chills, log

fires and sherry really clears the cob webs.Due to the hefty legal fees which are

bouncing around we have had to hold back on a number of projects, with much needed increase in the repayments of the Special Levy we have started getting thing back to normal. Prior to my taking leave I gave Nat the job of getting things smartened up – it takes a woman to really do this and what a woman we have in our Googlette Nat.

1. Guard house and office pressure cleaned (yes grey water was used)

2. Old holes, loose wires and lights are about to become a thing of the past;

3. A couple of schemes are being hatched to liven up our entrances;

4. The kennels will soon be a point where even I could rent space when I am in the dog box.

5. Road patches will be completed next week;

6. The office garage kicked in shape; Thanks girl for all your hard work, your metal

toed safety boots for kicking A in to G are on the way, you are a SUPER STAR – let’s keep things rolling at this speed as long as the budget is there it can be maintained.

administration manager feedbackHello Everyone, Here is your part 2 of the questions that are frequently asked at reception:

I would like to paint my house. What colors can I use?

We have a paint pallet that we are able to email to you, or we have a sample of colors that you are able to see outside our office door.

How secure is the estate?

We confidently confirm that currently, the two secure main entrance gates are manned 24 hours a day; in addition to this the gates are monitored with CCTV surveillance. The entire perimeter of the estate is fenced with metal palisade fence topped with flat rap razor wire. Security guards with dogs continually patrol the perimeter fence (24/7). The security nerve is located in the western area of the estate at the contractor’s entrance gate. This office handles the issuing of access and identity cards to residents, amongst other functions.

What are the working hours for Construction and/or Contractors?

Monday to Friday – 06h00 to 18h00 excluding public holidays. During the festive season all construction is banned; this is normally between the 15th December and 15th January.

operations & security manager feedback

driving within seaward!!! It has become more prevalent that we now have a lot more aspiring racing drivers using our roads. I am not sure if this is because those that did previously adhered to the speed limit have now adopted the attitude “That if you can’t beat them to JOIN them” or because we just have so many new residents ?

Please note that our roads do not allow for vehicles to travel comfortably at speeds of over 40 KPH, yet daily we see people speeding within Seaward. There have been a marked increase in the number of animal road kills, thank goodness it has not included any human statistics.

We have always presented a safe family environment where residents can walk, walk with their children or just walk the dog around the Estate. So please advise your visitors accordingly, as you are ultimately responsible for the behaviour of your “Visitor’s” for the duration of their visit in the Estate. So please consider all our road users whether they be human, domestic animal or part of our wildlife that we enjoy when you drive around in the Estate?

Remember always be proactive and 1 step ahead.

Pulse has an open space functional training layout that includes outdoor obstacle courses and use of the roads around the gym. Check them out at the Quarter Centre.

Page 9: Seaward July 2015

Seaward Estate | 9

Pulse, found at the Quarter Centre, is a functional training facility including kettlebell, functional and obstacles training. It's different to the type of gyms we are used to and was developed for people who don't necessarily like going to commercial gyms. Pulse embodies a more personal training approach that is done either one on one or in fun, dynamic group classes.

There is a misconception that static movement training at gym is functional training but real functional training conditions the body to be able to handle the everyday movements and activities – from simply carry bags to making sure your biomechanics are right as you get older. Flexibility and mobility are all part of functional training and this is what you’ll find at Pulse.

Dina works hard to make classes are accessible for all clients, at all levels of fitness. She alternates exercises to cater for pregnant moms or people who are recovering from knee operations right through to conditioned sportsman, like cyclists or surfers, who want to compliment their conditioning.

on the pulse

Local resident, Dina du Toit, runs one of the best all round functional gyms in Ballito and is slowly and steadily

setting the standard for alternatives to traditional gyms.

Page 10: Seaward July 2015

10| Seaward Estate

For the beginner Pulse makes training much easier. There aren't confusing machines and you don't have to worry about a workout programme or complex training programmes . Dina ensures each session delivers a thorough, holistic workout and works from beginner to the super fit!

Dina is IKFF certified and has attended courses with international functional trainers like Steve Kotler and Mike Mahler and her recent research in functional movement led her to Functional Patterns where

Kinosis Health & Wellness offers a holistic approach towards achieving 'true self-care', adding to the professional services offered at Pulse. Kinosis offers a variety of massage techniques, such as therapeutic and sports massage, aimed at providing relief from pain, tension, muscle stiffness, and relaxation. Through kinesiology we monitor the muscle bio-feedback to help work towards achieving emotional, mental and physical balance.

she researched founder, Naudi Aguilar's, own journey into the study of functional movement and has adopted that into her programmes. Dina believes there is so much quality material out there that allows her to help people with functional movement, whether young or old.

Training at Pulse is also a little more personal and knowing the clients is key for Dina who’ll give you a polite call if you’ve missed one too many classes. Whatever is happening at Pulse must be working as clients from all over

the North Coast (Sheffield to Westbrook) are starting to train with Dina. These clients love the kettlebell workouts as well as the all round training that includes the recently built obstacle course for the more adventurous or the road work for those needing to refine running skills.

So, if you feel like Winter is the best time to work on that Summer body, pop round to Pulse and give it a try. You’ve got nothing to lose except the winter kilos!

Anywhere else around the world, winter conjures up images of gloves,

beanies, woollen scarves and trench coats. But here, in the sun-kissed bubble of Ballito, we ‘cover up’ with a light jacket and – on those really cold days – maybe an extra pair of socks. Added to our long list of why we love Ballito is our incredible weather…and that winter is so not an excuse to throw fitness out of the frosted window. We have rounded up the most interesting (and fun) ways to keep fit during winter – let’s play!

Stand Up Paddle Boarding Or, SUP for those of us who are a little bit cooler. This trendy sport has caught on in a big way – it’s easy and fun and only requires a few pieces of equipment. You can work your full body on the paddleboard, because you’re standing up to your full height and working your upper arms and torso, all the while appreciating the ocean around you. It involves planting your feet on a paddleboard (somewhat like a surfboard) and using a paddle to propel yourself forward. Basically, you need the

paddleboard, a paddle and loads of sunscreen.

Off Road RidesDirt in your face, the sound of screaming engines and the roar of your excited mates – come on! The North Coast has a strong biking community; quadbike and motorbike crews have marked out trails in and around Ballito. There are the eco-friendly guided quad trails on Hopewell Farm, which are suitable for amateur and pro quad bikers. The route drifts through forests and includes river crossings. The Sugar Trail is an hour-long trip from the Ballito micro light airfield across four sugar estates. Contact: Fat Traxx 082 477-5837

Sugar Rush This is a ball for the whole family, designed to give everyone a magical time. There is a range of activities for everyone to try out,

The Ballito Pro is another one of those winter events that gets most of Ballito to the beach to enjoy our winter playground. Did you visit the Pro this year?

Healthy Body, Healthy MindWe take a look just a handful of the many activities that will keep you fit and healthy this winter, all within a few minutes drive of the estate

and a coffee shop for the not-so-active people in the familia to chill out with a light meal and cooldrink. Sugar Rush has more than 100km of mountain biking and running trails, all designed and built by champion riders. Bob’s Boot Camp Now, this one is perfect for those who want to keep fit but can’t handle the gym…or everyone staring at you while you lose the flab. Bob’s Boot Camp is an inspired, outdoor group training programme that teaches discipline based on motivation techniques. It’s been scientifically designed to achieve maximum results in the minimum amount of time. Join the

movement – the crew works out at Umhlali Preparatory (before school, so you’re fresh for the rest of the day) and does a few sessions on the beach.

Footy Footy, located at Townsend Park, is an outdoor sporting facility offering various indoor sports: soccer, netball and cricket for all ages, boys and girls, irrelevant of skill level. At Footy, several competitive and social leagues as well as non-league games take place. There’s a place for everyone at Footy – even if you’re looking to just chill out and have some fun with a friendly game of soccer, netball or cricket. The Footy family will soon include indoor hockey! They also do birthday parties, if you’re scouting a cool venue.

Kyle, owner of Footy in Ballito and also Seaward resident, has done a great job in creating an astro field that has seen some amazing clashes between local indoor football teams. You can find Footy at Townsend Park...maybe join a footy team?

Meet the family in the Georgie home who love their family and love their home. “Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away”. Uvana shares more about her family with us.

The house fondly known as Georgie has become much more full and lively with many more additions coming to live with me. I moved into Seaward Estate in October 2011 and I was one of the first people to write one of the “Meet the Neighbours Feature”, but over the last few years much has changed...Georgie and I have gained an awesome family...Shaun, Rowan, Caitlin and Dhiya-Bella and Jazz...and a beautiful garden. So it’s time to Meet the Family.

Shaun is a forensic examiner and works within the KZN Health System and so pays much attention to detail. He has also has green fingers and is responsible for the lovely looking garden. He loves pottering in the garden tending to some beautiful rose bushes that always leaves a twinkle

in the eye and nurturing our pin cushion proteas. We recently discovered that we can grow these flowers in our garden at Seaward, so why don’t you try your hand at it?

Caitlin is a new graduate having just completed her Bachelors degree in Politics, Philosophy and Law this year. Rowan attends Northwood Boys and is sitting for matric exams this year and Dhiya-Bella is our 17 month old bundle of joy and loves going to school.

Our dog Jazz...is formidable... she climbs walls and is always finding new ways out of the yard...she thinks she’s a monkey cross springbok and is very much part of the family.

We love watching sport, eating yummy food, going away for weekends, fashion and we also love great company. Seward has become our home and we appreciate the love and peace of mind in the security the estate offers the whole family.
