This workshop aims to raise awareness ofthe most common SEND encounteredwithin an educational setting. It will beuseful for all staff who come into contactwith pupils with SEND.

The course will focus on eight commonSpecial Educational Needs (listed below),examining their characteristics andidentifying practical ways to improvelearning for students with these needs.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

Who is this course for?

This qualification is ideal for learnerswishing to gain the knowledge and skillsrequired to administer effective emergencypaediatric first aid.

Course content

Subjects covered include the roles andresponsibilities of a paediatric first aider,how to provide first aid to an infant or childwho is unresponsive, how to administercardiopulmonary resuscitation and use ofan automated external defibrillator. It alsocovers how to administer first aid to aninfant or child who is choking or sufferingfrom hypovolemic shock.

Assessment: This qualification isassessed by practicaland theory methods.

Duration: 1 day, or split into 2sessions

Award: Participants will receivea Level 3 Award inEmergency PaediatricFirst Aid (RQF).Certificate valid for 3 years.

Paediatric First Aid

Who is this course for?

This qualification is ideal for learnerswishing to become paediatric first aiders ina workplace with the responsibility for thewelfare of infants and children. The coursecontent aligns with the paediatric first aidsyllabus within the Early Years FoundationStage.

Course content

Subjects covered include the roles andresponsibilities of a paediatric first aider,how to provide first aid to an infant or childwho is unresponsive, how to administercardiopulmonary resuscitation and use ofan automated external defibrillator. Emergency First Aid

Who is this course for?Designed for people who want to receivetraining in emergency first aid andespecially suited for nominated first aidersin smaller, low risk working environments.

This is a basic first aid course designed toequip staff with the knowledge toadminister first aid in an emergencysituation. The course will involve apractical demonstration of ability.

First Aid at Work

Who is this course for?Designed for those students alreadyworking or preparing to work in industryand that have been identified within thecompany’s risk assessment of First Aid.

Course contentTopics covered include:

n The roles and responsibilities of theFirst Aider

n Assessing an incident

n Recognising signs and symptoms ofinjury and illness

n Assisting a casualty who is sufferingfrom major injury and illness

Chest injuries

Spinal injuries

Anaphylaxis.

Duration: 18 hours over 3 days orspread over 6 weeks.

Supporting Teaching &Learning in Schools: Level2 Certificate - NCFECACHE

Course content

Support children and young people inPrimary, Secondary or Special School toachieve their potential by working as aTeaching Assistant.

Covering a wide range of areas includingchildren and young people’s development,supporting those with disabilities orspecial educational needs andcommunication and professionalrelationships.

A letter confirming placement in a primaryor secondary school, Key Stage 1 andabove for a minimum of 6 hours pw over aperiod of a year is required at enrolmentas well as an up to date DBS check, whichyou can obtain through the College.

Work based assessment can take up toone year to complete.

ICT in Early Years: Level 3 Award - NCFE CACHE

Course content

A brand new qualification, providingstudents with the knowledge and skills tobe able to integrate the use of ICT in EarlyYears learning including topics such as e-safety and how to promote a healthy andsafe environment for children online.

Students will need to be working orvolunteering in early years settings inorder to meet the requirements forassessment. No simulation will bepermitted.

This qualification will provide careeropportunities as a pre-school worker orpractitioner in day nurseries, nurseryschools or reception classes.

This qualification can be used as CPD forindividuals within these job roles. All unitswill be internally assessed using a rangeof methods, including direct observationwithin the workplace, a portfolio ofevidence, written assignments or a settask.
