WEDD ING EVENT DES IGN STUD IO

So, Hayley, what in your opinion, is the next big thing when it comes to room dressing and chair covers?

Throughout my five years in the wedding industry, I have seen many changes - this is why we now o!er to do as much or little as the bride and groom wants.

We are happy to dress a wedding, whether it is just simple satin table runners or an extravagant full venue set up with our luxury chair covers, floor length table linen, swagging, sashes, candelabras and sparkling table diamonds.

Also, one of our main advantages is being able to o!er a unique colour matching service on all satin and orgnaza fabrics - this seems to be a wonderful and very popular service we can provide as every wedding is di!erent and unique to that couple."

Do you tend to just dress chairs of a certain size and shape or are you flexible?

Wedding Event Design Studio have over 2,000 chair covers in stock, so we can cover almost any chair!"

We have three di!erent sizes of standard chair covers; these are available in white, ivory, luxury white satin stripe and black (we"have matching floor length table linen in all fabrics).

We are also very excited to announce that we have had brand new chair covers made to measure for Shottle Hall’s high back chairs - these covers are simply stunning and complement a beautiful venue!

How do you tend to work with your brides and what is the procedure for booking your service?

I o!er a free wedding consultation for all brides and grooms."This is a good chance to meet either the chosen venue or at our 2000 sq ft wedding showroom in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. I find that all couples love the personal service I am able to o!er."

I will discuss all their requirements,"have a good look through colours, see all chair cover options, linen and di!erent fabrics available and, of course, everyone is very welcome to view our extensive portfolio."

Once I have a good idea of their style, themes and colours, I can provide a quote based on the decor discussed."

Once the couple are happy, they can save their date with us and their final details only need to be confirmed six weeks before the big day."

Another advantage of booking with us is that the bride and groom can choose as much or as little as they require!

Please can you talk us through the services you offer, along with chair covers?

Along with everything already mentioned, I am very proud to have Derbyshire’s only Master florist John Preston on board of Wedding Event Design Studio."

So, we are not only able to o!er beautiful linen, but we can also o!er all aspects of your floral requirements, from bouquets to buttonholes and centrepeices to pedestal arrangements. With us working together, it makes the couples wedding day easy, unique, stress free, with stunning outcomes every time.

How many weddings have you been involved with and out of them all, do you have a personal favourite?

Over the past five years we have dressed over 500 beautiful weddings at some fantastic venues across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and even further afield."

With only one wedding booked with us per day, we can make every wedding unique. We are very proud of our portfolio and even though I don’t have a personal favourite, I am confident that once you have had a good look through our images, you certainly will!To get in touch with Hayley at Wedding Event Design Studio, please call 07971 108128 or email [email protected]"

OK, so you’re at the stage when you’re ready to book your entertainment and you don’t know where to begin? Here, Guy Morris of Mojito Discothèques provides some invaluable advice:

It is often said that picking a good discotheque for your party is as fraught as trying to find a decent plumber and when your party happens to be for your wedding day it absolutely has to be right!

Having spent ten years providing quality parties to Prestwold Hall in Leicestershire and now the preferred party entertainment supplier for Tutbury Castle in Sta!ordshire, I certainly know how important the entertainment aspect of the day is.

I began my entertainment career in broadcasting, originally with Radio Trent in Nottingham and then moved around the country to other stations and during that time I worked in clubs and also did private parties where the equipment provided was to say the least, average. That is when I decided that I wanted to provide a party service that o!ered the best in equipment and presentation with no compromise.

We have two main client types; the corporate and the private party and although very di!erent in the type of event, there are many similarities in what is required and expected. Within the corporate industry, you are regarded as only as good as your last party. Being late or average is not an option and if you don’t deliver then it’s likely you will not be asked to provide again. Clients do not want 1,000+ guests sitting down with an empty dance floor! It’s the same concern for our wedding clients - the party is the final keystone to a successful and enjoyable celebration and therefore, the choice of entertainment needs to be right.

One of the main concerns for wedding party organisers is the choice of music to be played and this seems to have become the main focus of any booking. I often wonder what type of parties they have attended previously as they all seem to have the idea that they are going to get a night of Jive Bunny and the Birdie song as this seems to crop up in every client brie"! What we always suggest to a client is to simply send us a music list of loves/hates and must plays#and let us play them out to suit the moment and the floor, along with guest requests and our expert musical knowledge, it all works together to make a great party.

Talking to Save the Date today is actually a great opportunity to o!er some advice to anyone looking to book their party entertainment.

The evening party is often the last thing on the planning list of to do’s and usually the lowest on the budget! This can be a crucial factor in how guests remember your special day so it’s worth taking time to select your supplier as carefully as you would for everything else. In my opinion, you need to ignore anyone who tiers their services from bronze level# up to platinum depending on the numbers of lights and speakers used! If they are good, they will provide everything that is needed to make your party memorable.

Booking your entertainment should be as easy and enjoyable as the rest of your arrangements and with Mojito Discotheques it is. We will discuss your requirements, send you an information pack and quote then, once you have decided, place everything in writing for your wedding file.

Hopefully this general advice will help avert any party disasters - now if only I could o!er advice to you on booking a plumber!

!"##$%&'()*+!"#Here, Joanne of I do Wedding Cars

talks to Save the Date magazine about her fabulous fleet of wedding day transportation and how she always ensures her brides get to the church on time…

So Joanne, talk us through the vehicles you have to offer brides:

Right, well we have four Beauford Bridal Cars, all with unique colour schemes & their own individual personalities!

Elanor is the flagship of the fleet and our most popular car with brides.

She is a 4 door, long-bodied Beauford convertible, finished in olde English white, with a burgundy leather interior.!

Evie is also a 4 door, long-bodied Beauford, but has a full time hard top roof. She is finished in electric blue and silver, with a cream leather interior. She was actually made by Beauford for Universal Studios and features in the film, The Mummy Returns, where she was driven by Brendan Fraser before being squashed by giant mummies outside the British Museum! (Obviously they used a second shell for the squashing scene!)

Bonnie is a 2 door, Beauford convertible, finished in cream with burgundy wheel arches and a cream leather interior. She is one of the very first Beaufords ever made.

Beau is also a 2 door, Beauford Convertible, finished in ice blue and white, with lots of chrome work. She was made for the owner of the Beauford company to exhibit in European Motor shows, where she won awards and is the only left hand drive Beauford in the country. She even has air conditioning!!

They sound lovely and very unique! What packages do you offer?

Our packages are bespoke, as every wedding is di"erent and has individual needs.

We operate a one wedding per car, per day policy, to ensure that you receive our undivided attention for as long as you have the car with you.

Once quoted, there are no hidden or unexpected extras. The car remains with the couple for as long as required. Whether it takes 2 hours or 4 hours, the price quoted is the price paid. We know things happen beyond the control of the bride and groom on the day, and therefore we don’t think it fair to penalise the newlyweds incase things go beyond a pre-arranged time limit.

What else do you offer to make the couple feel extra special on their day?

Whatever type of wedding is planned, we ensure that the happy couple have the time of their life. Each couple receives a complimentary bottle of Lanson Black Label Champagne to toast each other after the ceremony and of course to calm their nerves!

Our Chau"eurs are all fully uniformed, along with a hat if required and are the consummate professional on the day, attentive in every way, without becoming a hindrance or overbearing.

All cars carry a two-person umbrella in case the weather is inclement, although it could double up as a sunshade too!

In a nut shell, it is our job to ensure our brides get to the church on time and in style and we go above and beyond to ensure this mission statement is delivered each and every time.

Lynda, Ken and Lindsay, the wedding team, are well equipped when it comes to looking after their guests from choosing the best bacon, sausages and eggs for breakfast from the neighbouring farmers, plumping the big soft pillows and flu!y white towels, checking that there’s oceans of hot water and that all the newly opened bedrooms are spotlessly clean and welcoming.

The Courtyard, which is home to the sumptuous bedrooms o!ers a truly luxurious and fantastically serviced added extra to weddings at Hodsock Priory. Raspberry red is the dominant colour which is complemented by warm shades of cream and brown, textured woods and an eclectic mix of fabric patterns to create a seamless and stylish look that is contemporary, timeless and inviting. To ensure the Hodsock Estate and its heritage is not forgotten, artwork in the individual rooms is of the famous Hodsock Snowdrops, with the breathtaking beauty of the house and grounds being pictorially reproduced to stunning e!ect.

And one of the best reasons to stay at Hodsock Priory as part of your wedding day? Well, Lindsay freshly bakes home-made biscuits and puts fresh milk in the fridge before guests arrive. You really can’t get a much better welcoming than that.

And here is what a recent bride and groom had to say about their Hodsock Priory experience: To The Hodsock Team,

We cannot thank you enough for our incredible wedding day – Ken and Lynda were amazing - so professional and friendly from start to finish. When we heard from the fantastic Lindsay that The Courtyard was ready – we couldn’t believe the venue could get any better – we were now able to have 26 friends and family staying with us on site. The new bedrooms are so luxurious and spacious – they really do add to the whole wedding experience at Hodsock. I don’t think we could have found a more beautiful venue or such amazing people to plan our

day. We will always remember Hodsock fondly and would recommend the venue to anyone.

Having been a part of the world of weddings for over a year now, we at Save the Date have come to realise that wedding photography is a highly competitive area of the market with lots and lots of ‘big day’ photographers cropping up all the time.

All photographers we have worked with and who we recommend are of the absolute highest standard and come highly regarded by us, however, even we were pretty amazed when we discovered an international award winning photographer in our midst.

On our first encounter with the fantastic Ian Bursill, we felt extremely humbled by his modest nature, not one to brag or boast but certainly very proud of his achievements, Ian is a real hidden gem.

A proud member of The WPJA (The Wedding Photojournalist Association) - a US based body that represents those who are said to be amongst the best in the world at what they do - Ian and his work had to conform to a strict entry criteria in order to become a member and he challenged himself to achieve success as part of the association.

And success did he achieve.

Finishing in the top three of the WPJA’s ‘International Photographer of the Year 2009’ competition and also being named as the WPJA’s ‘UK Wedding Photojournalist of the Year 2009’ in only his second year as a member, Ian was understandably elated by the news.

Based in Leicestershire, Ian’s passion for documentary photography began over thirty years ago when at the age of 12 he was given his first camera by his father, a semi-professional photographer.

Ian says, “I carried the camera with me everywhere I went and I was the school’s resident photojournalist recording everyday school life; the characters, playground fights and birthday duckings in the biology pond!

Having left school and failing to get a break in the industry, he worked for a printing company and then ran the creative department for an advertising agency. He kept up his keen interest in Photography by shooting personal work and some of the agency’s packshot photography for use in brochures and advertising, but all the while was keen to get a real break into the industry. That moment was soon to happen...

Attending the wedding of a close friend, he slyly tucked a small digital compact into his pocket. “The ‘old school’ photographer was boring all the guests at the wedding

by taking around an hour and a half to shoot the long list of set-up and formal group shots outside the church,” he recalls. “Guests were complaining about standing around, so during this period I got lots of informal shots. I processed the images afterwards and burned them onto a CD as a present for my friend and his new wife and they were over the moon with the natural shots I had taken compared to the contrived ones they had from the o!cial photographer.

It was after that wedding that I thought long and hard about trying to get into the industry again. I figured that there must be a way of approaching wedding photography in a di"erent way; to simply let the day unfold and document what was happening before me.

I flung myself into o"ering to shoot the weddings of some friends in Scotland, got another job locally and then a couple of colleagues at the ad agency I worked at knew of two couples who were on the lookout for a photographer and I ended

up shooting both weddings. I’ve not looked back since.”

Now a highly successful documentary wedding photographer, Ian loves what he does and feels passionately about the way his style of work achieves natural, emotive and timeless images for his couples.

“I o"er a documentary style approach for the simple reason that I feel that staged photography controls a massive part of a short but special day for any bridal party and their guests. I also feel that it doesn’t really capture the inner essence of a person’s personality. The real emotions of the day, the laughter, the tension, the joy, the

tears and the jubilation are very often not captured by photographers who work in this way.”

With excellent observational skills and a real talent for capturing those priceless moments during the wedding day, Ian’s quick thinking and creative approach allied with his uncanny ability to anticipate what is going to happen at any given moment results in a wonderful narrative of the day for his couples to reminisce and enjoy for years to come.

With this latest award, Ian has demonstrated that his creative flair and obvious passion for what he does has been well recognised and rightly so. Ian is quite honestly one of the most talented, modest and generally warm and friendly photographers we have come across and with more and more couples out there opting for a more relaxed, documentary approach to their day, we’re pretty confident that Ian’s fantastic success story has only just begun.

ASK: Save the Date Lydia and Abbi answer your questions

Lisa: We’d love to go to the Maldives for our honeymoon but there are so many resorts to choose from and I don’t know which one to pick. Do you have any recommendations? The Maldives is a perfect destination for a honeymoon, o!ering complete relaxation, crystal clear lagoons and beautiful, pure, soft white sands. The islands do vary in size and facilities on o!er and it really depends on whether you want a small, intimate island, o!ering no news/no shoes or a larger island o!ering more in the way of restaurants, bars and leisure facilities. Kuoni Travel specialise in honeymoons to the Maldives and say that their most popular is the island of Kuramathi which is exclusive to them, with 9 restaurants, 6 bars, fantastic leisure facilities and an all inclusive option. Many of the islands o!er amazing water villas with the option of a double jacuzzi bath overlooking the ocean. The Maldives really does o!er heaven on earth!

Jo: Do you have any quirky and cost effective ways of feeding my guests? We’re getting married in summer and I’d really like an alternative to a formal sit down dinner. Any ideas? Oh, we love it when our readers get creative! A formal dinner is great and works for most people, however, opting for something a little more quirky will probably cost less and give you budget to spend elsewhere! You could have a hog roast or a ‘posh’ BBQ outside - or you could hire a fish and chip van to come and serve up England’s finest dish (depends on the restrictions at your venue though). Whatever you end up doing, we hope you have a great time!

Fliss: I’m really not fussed about having a wedding in a manor house or hall with lots of grounds. I’d prefer a contemporary space or a city centre based venue. Do you recommend anywhere? I live in Nottingham.

We totally get where you’re coming from, Fliss. We love castles and manor houses (Lydia’s just married at Thrumpton Hall and loved it) however, we have come across quite a few chic and stylish venues which are the total opposite and really o!er something very special. Harts Hotel in Nottingham is a firm favourite with its fabulous views across the Park and fantastic reputation and the Carriage Hall in Plumtree is super stylish and very popular for those couples looking for something modern and on trend. The Lace Market Hotel is right in the middle of the Lace Market (believe it or not!) and boasts fantastic food with a real cosmopolitan vibe and finally, the Riverbank on the banks of the River Trent is new and just gorgeous (we’ll be celebrating Save the Date’s first birthday party there in November!)

Gemma: I really want to have my wedding filmed. Do you know any good wedding videographers? Oh yes, there are quite a few. We highly recommend Shoot (www.shoot-lifestyle.co.uk) as they produced Lydia’s wedding film which she absolutely loved and they are professional, highly experienced and such lovely people. Midway Media also produce fabulous and cost e!ective wedding films (www.midway-media.co.uk) and the husband and wife team who run the company are so warm and friendly and great at what they do. Finally, a new discovery for Save the Date is Light Films (www.lightfilms.co.uk) - stylish, on trend and again, really nice people - which is always a bonus! Hope that helps.

If you are going to get your make up done on the day by somebody else, do a trial first to make sure you are completely happy with the make up and the make up artist.

Think about taking touch up products with you. Use MAC Blot Powder to take shine down, MAC Cremeblush to keep your skin looking alive and healthy all through the day and into the night.

MAC Strobe liquid or MAC Strobe Cream moisturises skin on the face or body and gives a gentle radiance and highlights the contours of your body. This is especially pretty over shoulders and décolletage.

MAC Splashproof Mascara is a must and eyeliner such as MAC technakohl in a suitable shade will stay in place all day. MAC Liquid Last liner is totally cry proof and comes in a range of colours.

Choose the right colour foundation that suits your skin tone, photographic evidence doesn't want to come back and haunt you of bad colour choice!

Page 37: Save the Date Magazine - Issue 7

Here, we bring you the amazing real wedding of Laine and Danny who married on the 19th June at the stunning Chatsworth House. The beautiful bride, Laine, brings you the story of her big day:

I work in the Wedding and events o!ce at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Heathy Lea is a beautiful house situated on the Chatsworth Estate. I actually had my wedding venue booked….and then I found Heathy Lea and fell in love with it instantly. It is the most beautiful wedding venue and the little Summer House where the ceremony takes places is just perfect.

My dress was nothing like what I thought I would pick, but as soon as I put it on I fell in love. I imagined myself in a sleek, very plain floor length gown…how wrong I was! My dress was called Paso Doble, the sleek lines and soft flounces gave it a very Spanish feel. I loved the way the dress came up at the front just enough so you could see my lovely shoes!

I wanted our wedding theme to be in keeping with the surroundings of the park. We tried our best to keep everything

to a neutral theme, using lots of nude and pastel tones. Our marquee was again decorated in neutral tones with big Chinese lace lanterns hanging from the ceilings. We white washed old flower pots and filled them with big vintage pastel roses for table decorations. Fairy lights and lanterns decorated the trees and fences on the lawn and outside the marquee.

I think the quirky thing about our wedding definitely has to be the Summer House where we took our vows. It was tiny, only myself, Danny and the two registrars could fit inside, all of our guests were seated on the lawn. I had originally booked a church for our ceremony but I am so glad we decided to do something di"erent. The memory of walking down the lawn to the little summer house will stay with me forever.

Our wedding day was truly the best day of our lives; it was made so special by all the people we love around us. Our day was full of laughter and love - just the way we wanted it!!
