We got married at St Michael’s church in Linby. We chose Cockcliffe house hotel for our reception venue, it was

perfect for us and we fell in love with it as soon as we went to visit. It is set in the countryside, has beautiful lawns and a pretty French style country house that dates back to the 17th century. We opted for a marquee on the lawn to create an English tea party theme; Buster Marquees provided the marquee and provided a friendly and professional service. We had exclusive use of the hotel, its 11 rooms and the grounds for the day which meant our families could stay over and we had the whole place to ourselves. The staff at Cockcliffe were so fantastic and went the extra mile to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves; we received so many compliments from our guests who thoroughly enjoyed their meals and commented on how friendly and accommodating the staff were.

My dress is by Maggie Sottero, it has a silk slip and then an overlay which is embellished with Swavorski crystals, I loved it because it had a 1920s vibe to it and I felt so elegant in it. Finding the bridesmaid dresses was a much more difficult task as I had 8 of them and a flower girl. Luckily for me the bridesmaids were happy to assist and took matters in to their own hands, they found some beautiful lilac/grey dresses from Coast and Debut at Debenhams, we had 4 dresses and two girls in each style. Tim and the groomsmen wore DKNY suits paired with a floral tie.

We wanted our wedding to be relaxed and fun for all our guests, we made sure there was plenty of food, drink and entertainment. We had a loose theme of English tea party, the marquee was decorated with bunting and we had lawn games set up including a coconut shy and badminton court, these provided lots of entertainment. We had a band called Mellow Rebellion play in

the evening, they were so much fun and managed to get most of our guests up on the dance floor, we also had one of our guests up singing with the band towards the end of the night! We had a photobooth in the evening and I would highly recommend this, looking back at the photos has given us hours of entertainment. Emma Cleveley provided ours; they had so many props and made it so much fun. We wanted to make the wedding as personal as possible and did this by roping in friends and family to support where they could. My mum is an amazing baker so I asked her to bake our cake which was a naked cake decorated with fruit and flowers. My mum also filled favour boxes with mini sweet treats including fudge, tiffin, flapjack and shortbread biscuits.

Flowers were done by Helen and her team at Helen’s flowers in Grantham. Helen had so many ideas and I loved her suggestion of

decorated jars on a wooden block for the table centrepieces. Helen also decorated the venue for us with some quirky props, plants and huge milk urns filled with flowers, she understood exactly what we wanted and made the venue look stunning, I can’t thank her enough.

Our photographer was Sarah from Mirror Imaging who was friendly and reassuring throughout the whole process. My hair was by the very talented Amy Lee from Dillon and Lee Hairdressers and the car we used was a vintage Triumph Vitesse that belongs to our neighbours!

Asking friends and family to get stuck in can save you a fortune but it also makes the day feel so special and people really want to help out where they can. Involving our family and friends at every step made the day a celebration of not just the two of us but all the important people in our lives who were there to wish us the best for our lives together.”

Offering all the style and feel of a country wedding but with the convenience of being less than 6 miles from the centre of the city, The Nottinghamshire is in an idyllic

setting for the perfect wedding, set in over 340 acres of rolling countryside and manicured grounds.

The vintage chic Summer wedding of Eli & Liam used many of Save the Date’s favourite suppliers to create a uniquely personal day themed on the couples love of our capital

- complete with a white London taxi for the Bride and a hand drawn table plan by Mad Philomena based upon the city’s famous landmarks.

Eli, the bride had the most perfect day and here’s what she had to say about her experience of The Nottinghamshire;

“Firstly – Claire! She is amazing! She is so organised, professional, calm, friendly, helpful and a real delight. She is an absolute asset to your venue and brilliant at her job! Claire made our wedding day special and I really can’t thank her enough. Everything from start to finish was fantastic. The venue and grounds were in pristine condition with the flowers blooming and the new lake is stunning. The facility was so clean and tidy. Alex came along to help on the day – she is lovely! Very efficient and cool as a cucumber!

The amount of people who commented on the food was unreal. Every plate was hot, the service was brilliant and the food was to die for! The canapés were beautiful and evening buffet went down a treat. Massive thank you to the chef!! And a massive thank you to

0115 933 3344 www.nottinghamweddingvenue.com The Nottinghamshire, Main Road, Cotgrave, Nottingham, NG12 3HB

the brilliant staff who worked so hard getting everything out on time and making it look so effortless! Each member of staff was a delight and nothing was too much effort. I have been told we drank the place dry of Vodka – this doesn’t surprise me!

When I say everything was fantastic – I really mean it. We are both so overwhelmed with the whole day and I couldn’t have imagined it to be more perfect.”

If you’re on the hunt for your wedding venue, why not arrange a viewing with the lovely team at the Nottinghamshire:

Have you thought about adding a personal touch to your drinks reception? There are some lovely ways to do this,

whether you choose to serve signature drinks, serve the drinks in fun glasses or set up an entire drink station.

Signature drinksIf you and your other half have signature drinks you always order why not treat your guests to these on your wedding day for a personal touch. It’s a lovely idea to display a sign at the bar showing which drinks are on offer.

Present your drinks in fun waysThink about the glasses you want to use to serve your drinks, you could choose kilner jars, bottles, martini glasses or whatever you fancy. Adding straws in your colours can be a lovely touch and how about a sprig of lavender for extra detailing. For an additional detail you could label empty glasses with each guests name and write their table number on the label too so it would double up as an escort card.

Set up a complete drink stationFor a statement feature at your venue you could set up an entire drinks station. This could include fruit punch as well as cocktails in drinks dispensers for guests to help themselves. You can style this area to fit in with your overall wedding style.

For winter weddingsIn winter a refreshing cocktail may not be what your guests need, perhaps treat them to drinks at a different time of day depending on your wedding day schedule. Warm guests up after being outside with a hot chocolate bar, or perhaps serve Baileys after dinner.

What style are your cakes?I create bespoke cakes for all my couples, so they can really personalise their cake to their day. My favourite style is a more vintage, rustic look, but I have produced cakes of all different styles, sizes and types to suit different tastes.

What do you love most about your job?Weddings are all so personal and unique. Each couple has their own idea of what they want their cake to look like and I love being able to bring those ideas to life.

Tell us about Clementine!Clementine is a beautiful, fully restored vintage caravan, available to hire for weddings and events. She is the perfect addition to your drinks reception as who doesn’t love a cream tea?!

She can be hired by herself as a creative backdrop for photos or the full works where we would serve tea and scones (with proper clotted cream!) to all your guests. Darren and Sophie’s wedding was totally unique and personal to them – something we love at Save the Date. Here Sophie

tells us all about it;

Our ceremony took place on 6th June 2015 at Consall Station on the Churnet Valley Railway. Darren & our guests arrived by Steam Train and I arrived on my family’s old working boat, Sweden, captained in by my dad. We stood on the step of the waiting room whilst all our guests sat outside in the sunshine. We kept the ceremony short & sweet and enjoyed drinks on the platform & surrounding lawns outside of the Tipis afterwards. We were looking for something a little different and with some character. Tipi’s have such a lovely atmosphere and warmth and we knew it was for us. Peaktipis were brilliant from start to finish, professional, friendly and just generally fabulous people who were genuinely enthusiastic about our wedding.

My dress was from Alison Evans Bridal Wear in Swadlincote. Due to the nature of our wedding day (on & off boats & trains etc), I didn’t want anything with too long a train or too full. My hair was done by Megan from Sashair in Derby, who did a great job and despite me having very wayward flyaway hair it stayed in all day - even through a breezy boat trip! My make-up was done my Amy of Love Beauty in Stone. Our flowers were provided by The Topiary Tree in Stoke and as soon as I met Rose I knew she would do a great job. I wanted natural, seasonal flowers which looked like they could have been

picked from the garden. We made our save the dates ourselves and Mad Philomena created our invites, they were so different and unique to us. As we were both arriving in such different ways it would have been impossible for one photographer to capture it all. So we had 2 -Rebekah Fuller & Jess Rigley, both creating some amazing memories.

My mum made our cake - chocolate sponge on the bottom with a white chocolate layer, surrounded by chocolate fingers and covered in fresh raspberries. We had champagne & nibbles on the afternoon train ride and our main caterers were Two Counties Hog Roasts, who provided delicious vegetarian paella as well as the hog. Everyone commented that they had never had such good roast pork cobs, although their best customer was Spike our dog who thoroughly enjoyed it! We opted for a DJ and chose SubSounds who were amazing! Our first dance was How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Golding and the music all night was just what we were looking for. Everything about our wedding was personal to us, and we were not dictated by anyone’s ‘usual’ itinerary or preferences. The fact that my dad was able to bring me to the ceremony on the boat, and that the canal/train connection was made was particularly special. Our dog was able to be there for the whole day too which made the day complete!”

... that’s cool! Being able to recreate their dreams for their wedding day is incredible, just call me “Thomas the dream maker”! Describe your ‘typical’ wedding breakfastIt’s full of awesome! We haven’t got a typical one I guess, as everyone is different. Just like the bride and groom, all our menus are different. Who would be your dream dinner date? Can I have 7? John Lennon, Liam Gallagher, John Squire, Madonna as I want to have a laugh about her falling off the stage at The Brits, Richard Branson and Walt Disney. I’m going to invite my wife too or I’ll get told off :-)

From the amazingly creative catering company, Thomas the Caterer, here, we chat to the man himself, Thomas about his

passion for food and love for his craft.

What made you decide to launch your catering business?I saw the need for a truly bespoke wedding catering business, when we were looking for a wedding caterer for our Tipi wedding. At that time, all we could find was pre written menus with lack lustre flavours (the exact opposite of what we have created here at TTC) ... Luckily I had my work buddies to cater for me in the end! Describe your style and the way you present your foodMy style is relaxed, flavoursome and great looking, we are all about the flavour here at TTC. It has got to pack a punch and deliver on the palate, our service style is attentive but not in your face - we certainly don’t hover behind you with a napkin folded over our forearm! Who and what inspires you?Inspiration comes from many different areas ... eating out, holidays, cookery books and my travels around the world. However recently it has come from the brides & grooms who visit me at Thomas Towers and tell me all about their wedding and what they envisage

Multi Award winning Eternal Spirits was established in 2002 by designer Susi Henson.  Based in the heart of Nottingham’s

Lace Market the Eternal Spirits Bridal & Corsetry Emporium is a magical wonderland of surprises and like walking into a giant dressing up box.

Susi creates her magic here in her studio where all her bespoke bridal gowns are handmade to order. Susi who has won several awards for her creations and has designed for stars such as Kylie Minogue, Cheryl Cole, Dita Von Teese & Leona Lewis offers all of her brides a unique experience and a second to none old fashioned personal service. Dressing the bride is what Susi does best and her client base largely comes from word of mouth recommendations.

Susi says, “I always feel very honoured when a bride comes to me to create the most important thing they will ever wear. In almost fourteen years of running Eternal Spirits this never gets any less special for me. Being able to work with a client so closely over such a length of time means that I am able to capture their unique personality in their dress even if the design is very traditional and classic. My designs range from the most classic and simple to the avant garde and opulent and everywhere in between.”

Eternal Spirits offer their brides hundreds of options with the finest quality fabrics, laces and stunning embellishments through to vintage trims and Nottingham lace that can be incorporated into designs to add an extra sprinkle of uniqueness.

“It’s a fun process for all my clients and each appointment is an occasion to them, which is as it should be. The process begins with large cups of tea and getting to know the client. It’s important for me to know about the client, what she wants to feel like on her big day, any themes to the wedding and venue so I know the dress suits the backdrop for the day. From there we’ll do a big dressing up session

then I will start designing. It usually takes two or three appointments with each client to reach the final design and select fabrics. From there I will then create a toile to the client’s measurements and essentially create the design on the client in the fabric before we move into the chosen fabric. This allows me to get the pattern perfect but it also allows the bride to be completely happy with the design. It’s not a case of seeing the finished gown straight from the design… it’s a process and the client is involved every step of the way which ensures a very happy client each and every time.”

For any bride concerned that a bespoke gown will blow the budget or that it will be much higher than an ‘off the peg’ design then let Susi dispel that myth. Her bridal gowns start from around £1200 and she designs with a bride’s budget accordingly.

We got married at Harts Hotel, in our opinion, the best hotel and restaurant in our wonderful City of Nottingham. We

wanted an intimate, stylish wedding with amazing food and service and that is exactly what we got.

At the planning stage, we envisaged an elegant wedding with a big emphasis on quality and were looking to celebrate in an intimate way with our closest friends and family. We also wanted to ensure the day flowed comfortably for guests without any large gaps of waiting-around time and Sally, the wedding planner at Harts, was always on hand to advise and to help ensure we achieved this.We have three grown-up kids who played a full part in our day. Francesca, my daughter, was bridesmaid and Nathan & Jake, Mac’s sons, were his two best men. In addition, Nathan did two readings during the ceremony, Francesca sang acapella, ‘How do I’ Leann Rimes, after the ceremony and Jake played an acoustic guitar set and sang our first dance ‘Crying out Loud’, Ed Sheeran. Our nephew, Lukasz, was the super-cute pageboy!

We made full use of Harts’ beautiful garden which overlooks The Park and the City, with fizz and canapes to bridge the gap to the wedding breakfast, talented magician Roy Bond who enthralled and astounded our guests and enjoyed music from a New Orleans jazz trio, including my dad, Harry, on double bass. A three course wedding breakfast was served to guests, including Prosecco, quality wines, with coffee and chocolates to finish. The food and service was amazing, there were so many compliments after the meal. Harts provided us a comprehensive menu, enabling us to offer guests a choice of three starters, mains and desserts, together with a vegetarian option.

I’ve always loved a close-fitting, fishtail dress style. As soon as I saw the dress I loved its beautiful lace, sequins and crystal sparkle. The style was high-fishtail which meant I enjoyed unrestricted movement during the day. The White Wedding Lounge found me a matching

lace bolero and their talented seamstress trimmed it with sparkles to compliment my dress. My daughter, Francesca, is a bridal makeup artist and she did my makeup on the day.

Hairdresser Kelly Beedham came to Harts and did a great job with my hair, finishing the style with fresh orchids. I chose simple jewellery and a killer pair of heels to finish the look! It’s really important to decide as a couple what the important things about the day are for you and it helps to keep reminding yourself of those things as the pressure mounts! For us, an intimate wedding was key so that really helped us keep our guest list trim and prioritise what was important to us.

From the moment I got engaged, I knew the church I wanted to get married in, the type of flowers I would like and who

would be by my side as bridesmaids as I walked down the aisle to say ‘I do’.

One thing I wasn’t sure of though was the dress, as a little girl I always knew it would be white but that was as far as my little dreams ever went. I’d heard stories of how the experience of shopping for the dream wedding dress was stressful and to be honest it was a world that I had suddenly entered that I had no experience of. When I first started visiting bridal shops to look at dresses I was being asked questions of cut, materials and design none of which I knew the answer to, it was a complete minefield!

Of course, the stakes were high and like any woman it was the most important clothing choice I would probably ever make. After visiting a few bridal shops, my mum and I went to visit Elaina at Baroque Couture. I will never forget my mums famous last words before we walked through the door -“we have plenty of time to keep looking for the perfect one so don’t get worried if this isn’t it”. We were welcomed by Elaina and well mum and I didn’t look back, the decision was made.

The initial appointment was a lovely chat over tea finding out about who I was, where we were getting married and any ideas that I had around what I wanted in the dress. I remember saying it had to

be white, I’d love lace arms and I wanted it to frill and have a soft look at the bottom. Within minutes from just those few comments the most perfect sketch was drawn, different laces were pulled out of this special box to choose from and a decision made.

I knew as soon as I saw the sketch and the knowledge that Elaina had on design that it was the one even without trying it on. Every appointment from there was just such a fairy-tale experience, I had the luxury of the dress being made around me and the opportunity to see my dress develop month to month. Elaina got to know me even more and as she did little bits were added and modified on my dress- that’s where the flower came in, the veil expanded in length and a hair piece introduced to complement my dramatic veil. The dress was more than I ever imagined it would be. I walked down the aisle to say ‘I do’, with the most perfect dress to marry the most perfect man in the whole wide world. Would I change a thing, not one! I just only wish I could have my Baroque Couture appointments all over again.” Sally Bradbery

At Harvey & Harvey Photography your Wedding Day is the most important step along the creative road that begins with

conversations, meetings and a couple shoot.

Creative Director, Claire, explains, “By the day of the wedding we al-ready know the Bride and Groom, how they interact with one another and what’s important to them visually; and equally they already know how we will be working alongside them. Developing a trusting rela-tionship breaks down barriers, gives them confidence and allows us to capture the full personality of who they are without being over-bear-ing or interfering in their celebration.”

It is always a privilege to be commissioned to photograph a wed-ding. In a way that most other wedding service providers aren’t, the photographer is granted ‘behind the scenes’ access and is privy to all the emotions, tensions and excitement played out throughout the day. Discretion and manners are vital tools in the photographer’s bag alongside creative passion and attention to detail.

“I always remind myself that the day belongs to the Bride and Groom, and my photography reflects their unique character,” says Harvey & Harvey’s photographer, Adrian. “Our emphasis is on telling your story in a natural but elegant way. It’s about you and your celebration of marriage to one another.”

Booking music for your wedding can be a tricky affair. Leaving aside for a moment the choice of musical style

there are the basic mechanics to worry about; will they turn up? Will they be appropriately dressed? Will they have the right equipment? Will they listen to my requests and see my vision? The musician or DJ has to be someone you can trust to do all this on top of being a great performer. So check testimonials talk about how easy they were to work with, that they were smart and listened to what they wanted.

As for the music itself what do you choose? The music at a wedding is there to entertain the guests on one level or another, be it subtle ambience during the pre-dinner drinks or the wedding breakfast or something to dance to, so the main question is who will be attending? Most weddings have a wide range of guests from parents to small children so musical diversity is important if they’re all going to feel included. A good DJ, singer or band will already have a good idea

about what will work and can entertain most crowds effectively. If you balance this against your own input of tunes you know your family and friends will love, then you’re in for a great night.

Most importantly have a chat with the musician or DJ and use your gut instincts as to whether you feel they’re right for you or not. Last but not least know that the old adage is never more true when it comes to wedding entertainers . . . you get what you pay for, so be careful when it comes to offers that seem too good to be true, you may be setting yourself up for that dreaded phone call two days before your wedding that nobody wants!

Makeney Hall Hotel is a one of kind venue, it brings its impressive setting, fabulous grounds and warm, traditionally

styled rooms together to create a unique home from home feel for every guest. A beautiful Victorian country mansion in the heart of Derbyshire and surrounded by six acres of wonderfully landscaped gardens, Makeney Hall Hotel offers a truly breathtaking setting.

In recent months Makeney Hall Hotel has received a great deal of TLC. One area of focus for the refurbishment was their lovely restaurant. They have created delicious new menus with an array of dishes filled with vibrant colours and incredible aromas. The Brasserie menu is predominantly modern English cuisine, and with a focus on creating exquisite dishes made from fresh produce, they base their menus around seasonal ingredients.

Along with their new and improved menus, Makeney has refurbished the restaurant with brand new bespoke furniture. The restaurant décor is in-keeping with Makeney’s overall appearance which takes inspiration from the hotel’s Victorian roots. With specialising in weddings and special events, the staff take pride in their work and aim to make your event absolutely perfect with their personal approach from start to finish. Here’s the events manager, Katie to tell you more;

“Firstly, let us congratulate you on your engagement! Now the fun begins! The whole “picking your perfect venue”

experience can be a little daunting so let us help you through it. Any question, no matter how daft it may seem, just ask!

“We have a number of options for you, the best thing to do is to tell us what you are looking for and we will show you our most suited Suite. The Conservatory lends itself to a Shabby Chic, natural theme whilst the Milford Suite is the perfect backdrop for your strong colour pallet or theme.  If you are looking for something smaller, our Chartwell Suite is the perfect fit overlooking the lawns. Our room hire prices vary depending on your wedding date so pop in for a chat and we can do a bespoke proposal for you. We like to catch up with all our lovely Brides (and Grooms, of course) frequently so we set up the Open Evenings on the last Wednesday of every month where we will be available to have a chat, help you with your table plan, chat about how to keep Auntie Sue off the dance floor……or get all the guests on the dance floor! We often have a collection of trusted suppliers on hand too for discussions about colour pallets, centre pieces, chair covers, flowers and anything else that is vital to your day.”

Richie Muir is a big favourite of Save the Date Magazine. If you’ve attended any of our wedding event with a difference

events, chances are you will have seen him, guitar in hand, belting out a tune and getting everyone tapping their feet.

From walking down the aisle accompanied by a live acoustic guitar or piano and then during the champagne reception or wedding breakfast and then onto the evening and partying away into the night to the Richie Muir Band and DJ set, the options with Richie are simply endless. Having played professionally for over 20 years, Richie works tirelessly at every wedding to give the bride and groom a perfect soundtrack to their day. The memory of themselves, family and friends in a big circle dancing at the end of the evening is something that lasts forever.

I asked Richie for a bit more information on the service he provides and here’s his response:

“The music I perform is a take on classics and contemporary music in an upbeat live lounge type of way using acoustic guitar, bass, drums and 3 voices. We work very hard on getting the set list and volume just perfect to have a great evening and keep the dance floor full, which is ultimately the main goal.Above all I can guarantee the finest upbeat and happy live music for your wedding and my constant desire to give the bride and groom everything they want musically for their big day.

If a couple is interested in booking myself they should visit my website at www.richiemuir.com.”

We LOVE Richie and know that you will too.
