• Bharti Foundation

• Philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies.• Set up to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential.

• Satya Bharti School Program• Flagship program of Bharti Foundation.• It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special focus on the girl child across rural India.• Goal to establish 500 Primary and 50 Senior Schools reaching out to over 200,000 students

• Present Operational Status• Number of Schools Operational:250• States of Operation: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu & West Bengal • Number of Students Enrolled: Over 36,000

About the Community

•Geographical Location:

• Khairana village is situated in north east 14 K.M. from district

Mahendergarh.

• Sandy soil.

•Socio- Economic Background:

• Major casts are : Yadav, Chamar, Nai, Brahmin, etc.

• Dominating castes : Yadav

• Main source of earning is agriculture, animal husbandry, labor,

etc.

• Population : 3500, Literacy Rate: 40%

We ‘Felt’:

In Khairana, where total population is 3500, there are 500 peoples are totally illiterate, who even can not sign. The people who can not read and write, feel very bad. When their children ask them about education, they feel regret. When they have to put thumb impression, they feel if they were sigh.

We ‘Imagined’

After over all discussion in school, we met the sarpanch and shared our concern. He was very impressed with us and assured to help a t every step to make the campaign success. We took a target of 50 peoples. We prepared a list. Organized a meeting with community and decided to aware them about education.

We ‘Did’

A rally was organized with the posters showing the importance of education to aware the community members.

Individual counseling of the ladies who were not convinced that they can sign.

Impact on Community:Community members were very happy and felt proud that they can sign. All the community praised the students and staff for their wonderful initiative. The sarpanch distributed sweets.

Impact on “Us”

• Students were very happy to do the noble cause for community.• Students understood the feeling of a illiterate person.• Community members praised and gave the gifts to motivate the students.• Community was impressed and convinced that Satya Bharti School is providing good education.

The Road Ahead…..(in the next 3 months)

•Regular follow up for the program.

•Some volunteers were identified to speed up the program.

•We will organize a meeting in this regard every Sunday.
