Long known as a leader in cancer care in the region, Sylvester is now setting its sights on becoming a global center of excellence.

Under the leadership of Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., one of the nation’s leading experts in Leukemia and Lymphoma and a former division chief at the nation’s top cancer center, Sylvester has recruited over 50 leading researchers from across the country and rapidly expanded key research programs in the burgeoning fields of epigenetics, genomics, immunotherapy, and novel therapeutic – the keys to future treatment options and eventually cures.

Private philanthropy plays a critical role in fueling the growth of these new research programs –and ultimately enhancing Sylvester’s ability to offer the latest life-saving treatments to South Floridians. Every gift made to the 2015 Gala will enable Sylvester to advance our research priorities and take one additional step in the fight against cancer!

EVENT OVERVIEW

Contemporary, influential musical performer, singer-songwriter and pianist, Sara Bareilles, known for her powerful music, including the pop anthem “Brave”, will take the stage to entertain and inspire. Community leader and compassionate advocate, Barbara Hecht Havenick will receive the prestigious Caroline W. Halpern Award for leadership and philanthropy. The 2015 Gala is chaired by Chanin & Adam Carlin under the direction of Lily Serviansky, Board of Governors Development Chair and Joan Scheiner, Board of Governors Chair.

Before and after the Concert, guests will dine magnificently in the Ballroom, which will be transformed by WOW Productions. Guests may bid on fabulous items in the luxury silent auction, and can dance to the music of Juniors’ Band.A signature keepsake program book will recognize leadership and donors.

SARA BAREILLES

Sara Bareilles first achieved mainstream critical praise in 2007 with her widely successful hit, “Love Song” which reached #1 in 22 countries around the world. Since then, the Eureka, CA native has gone on to sell over 1 million copies of her debut album, earn five Grammy nominations including Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Love Song.” Bareilles’ critically acclaimed KALEIDOSCOPE HEART was released in September of 2010, debuted at #1 on the Billboard top 200 chart and has gained almost unanimous critical praise. In 2011, Bareilles joined the judge’s panel on the hit NBC show “The Sing-Off.” In early 2012, she released a documentary called “A Trace of the Sun: Volunteering in Japan,” which

chronicled her trip to Japan where she joined All Hands Volunteer efforts in the city of Ofunato after the 2011 earthquake and subsequent tsunami that devastated coastal cities. Soon after she released her critically acclaimed ONCE UPON ANOTHER TIME EP and her third studio effort, THE BLESSED UNREST, was released in July of 2013 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard album chart. The album has since gone on to achieve critical praise and earned Sara two Grammy Award nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her smash breakout single “Brave” whose lyrics, “ I wanna see you be brave” are a perfect anthem for cancer patients and their families.

Gala guests will dance to the sounds of Junior’s Band Orchestra, one of the most recognized and experienced event orchestras in Florida.
