TRANSCRIPT
"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Even a superficial look at history
reveals that no social advance rolls in on the wheels inevitability. Every step towards
the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and
passionate concern of dedicated individuals. Without persistent effort, time itself
becomes an ally of the insurgent and primitive forces of irrational emotionalism and
social destruction. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for
vigorous and positive action."

All the colors
Of the rainbow
Hidden 'neath my skin
Hearts have colors
Don't we all know?
Red runs through our veins
Feel the fire burning up
Inspire me with blood
Of blue and green
I have hope
Inside is not a heart
But a kaleidoscope
“MLK” by U2, Hopkins Concert Choir
Sleep, sleep tonight
And may your dreams be realized.
If the thunder cloud passes rain
So let it rain, rain down on he.
So let it be.
So let it be.
“Injustice” - Piper Melnick ‘21
An African-American girlWas picked on at schoolA boy's peers thought he was a nerdJust 'cause he was Asian he was uncool
A boy was bulliedBecause he was gayA muslim girl was calledA terrorist everyday
And also the boyWho became a girl with long hairThe hate on the her was awfulAnd it spread everywhere
"Look at the freaks!"The other kids laughed and laughedBut the looks on the "freaks" facescould tear your heart in half
And this hate keeps spreadingIt just gets worseKeeping our worldFrom becoming diverse
It's not rightIt's not fairIt's injusticeAnd it's, unfortunately, everywhere

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”- Martin Luther King Jr.

“Martin Luther King, along with many other activists, launched the civil
rights movement so much so that it commanded change. Without the
thousands of people who laid their lives down for us, many of us
would not be in the same room, nor would I be speaking. The day is a
day of remembrance, a day to think about what we’ve done and how
far we’ve come. It’s also a day to think, to think about how far we have
to go.”
