ABOUT THE SKILL ASSESSMENT MODULES

Using the Correlations for TABE™PreparationThe Teacher Correlations in this booklet provide you witha program for guiding your students toward mastery onthe TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education). Resources andexercises for students to complete are listed for Levels L,E, M, D, and A in Reading, Math, Language, and Spelling.

The Teacher Correlations include (1) the skills and subskillsin the subject areas measured by the TABE, (2) a list ofresources and assignments, (3) and a section where youcan jot down NOTES on your students and/or the variousSAMs resources and exercises. By matching the questionsyour students answer incorrectly on TABE Forms 7 and 8and Survey Forms 7 and 8 with the relevant resources andexercises in the correlations, you can target those areaswhich need more work. A student’s actual score and yourpersonal knowledge of his/her work will determine thenumber of exercises you assign.

Measuring Student Progress on the TABETest Forms G & H in the SAMs program correspond to theskills evaluated on TABE Forms 7 and 8. If the number of

questions answered correctly on Test Form G or TestForm H indicates mastery, students can move on to otherskills. However, if a student scores at partial mastery ornonmastery, additional lessons are needed. A test score of80–100 percent indicates mastery; partial mastery is60–79 percent; nonmastery is 0–59 percent. When students complete the assignments, you can reassess theirproficiency with SAMs Test Form G or Test Form H. Thereis no specific order for administering these parallel tests.

For Your InformationThe Study Plans provide a space for students to recordtheir education and employment goals and plans forachievement. By identifying a future direction, studentscan become more involved in their learning experienceand you have this information to keep them on tracktoward mastery on the TABE.
