    Term 3 Week 3 16 August 2013Kia ora tatou

Salford was the first city school to introduce the digital learning opportunity forstudents to bring their own laptop computer.

Our digital learning Programme is evolving from a fully managed laptopprogramme to a BYO-device. Information and communication technology(ICT) has a major impact on the world in which young people live. Similarly,e-learning (that is, learning supported by or facilitated by ICT) has consider-able potential to support the teaching approaches we believe work for 21stcentury learners.

    For instance, e-learning may:

assist the making of connectionsby enabling students to enter andexplore new learning environments, overcoming barriers of distanceand time

facilitate shared learningby enabling students to join or createcommunities of learners that extend well beyond the classroom

assist in the creation of supportive learning environmentsby offeringresources that take account of individual, cultural, or developmentaldifferences

enhance opportunities to learnby offering students virtual experiencesand tools that save them time, allowing them to take their learningfurther.

Schools should explore not only how ICT can supplement traditional ways ofteaching, but also, how it can open up new and different ways of learning.

Students can use devices that suit their individual learning needs, allowinggreater ownership of their school work and choices, as to how they delivertheir content.

Salford School provides digital learning environments, whichare rich and safe, ensuring continuity of teaching and learningby the seamless link of personal devices to the schoolsinfrastructure and resources.

We are able to easily support I-Pads and Apple laptops for2014. If you would like to discuss the possibility of your childbeing digital in 2014 please attend the Parent Evening on

September 4th in Room 6 at 7.00pmHave a successful white baiting weekend

    regards Marlene

    Speech and

drama lessons are afun way to teach childrennot only how to articulate

    correctly and clearly but

    also aspects of drama;

    mime and improvisations,

    impromptu speaking, sight

reading. It is important to develop confident

and clear speech in the early years to build

a strong foundation for a life- long ability of

    communicating effectively. To acknowledge

progress and success the children can sit

exams through New Zealand Speech Boardand they can participate in the Southland

Speech Competitions, held in the school

holidays at the end of term three.

    Itinerant Speech Teacher, Miriam Erikson,

is available to take children for private

speech and drama lessons during the

school term. The classes are held at

school, each lesson is once a week and up

to an hour depending on if it is on a 1:1

basis or in a group of four.

As this is private tuition the cost for these

lessons are not associated with the school

activity fee and will be met by the family.

Contact Miriam for any further information;times and days available plus costsinvolved.
