Stay Ahead of the Hiring Curve
The market: Fashion continues to move fast — adopting more purpose-oriented, sustainable practicesand leveraging digital innovation to create memorable in-store and online experiences.
An opportunity for change:Think about the type of talent you need to keep up with the pace and offer that talent the right incentives to get them excited about coming to work every day.
How to Find Your People in 2019
Still taking your time interviewing, gaining team consensus and putting together offer letters? Now is an excellent time to rethink your approach. With companies extending offers to desired candidates in as little as 24 hours after final interviews, you need a leaner, faster, more flexible hiring process to ensure your offer is considered.
Our Tips:• Schedule a Skype interview as soon
as you find a good match.• Consolidate interviews into one day
and even co-interview the candidate with multiple team members.
• Give your recruiters same-day feedback to ensure that you can move forward with the best candidate for the job.
• Have a good sense of what your best offer is ahead of time so that you can extend it to your favorite candidate in as little as a day.
Hire Faster
A background check is the final clearance for a candidate, but there are upfront assessments of candidates you can administer to ensure you’re hiring the candidate with the right skill set and attitude for the position. Keep in mind that even the smallest things, like a thank you email, can be a reflection of a candidate’s character.
Our Tips:• Ask for examples of work, such as
writing samples.• Request that candidates or their
recruiters provide you with references beforehand using platforms like WorkGrades.
• Use tests like Wonderlic to learn more about candidates’ personalities, critical thinking skills, and emotional intelligence.
Candidates are taking a long-term approach to the job hunt, opting for the security of full-time positions with benefits over the uncertainty of temp-to-perm offers. We expect to see a continued drop in the temp market as companies move to secure direct hires when they identify the right talent for their open positions.
Our Tips:• Whenever possible, make your
open positions direct hire to attract the best talent pool.
• If you must do temp-to-hire, be clear on the path and timing for the transition to full-time.

Benefits are a critical deciding factor for candidates accepting an offer and current employees you are trying to retain. Often, candidates will receive multiple offers they love and compare benefits line by line to make their final decision.
Don’t have the budget to add new benefits? Even small things like a flexible schedule and positive workplace culture can drastically affect how candidates feel about open positions. Make sure to highlight these throughout the hiring process.
Our Tips:• Emphasize perks besides the
benefits.• Add things like flexible schedules,
quarterly company outings, and office snacks to make your workplace seem more appealing.
• See below for further benefit and perk ideas.
Upgrade Your Benefits
Candidates are researching your company and coming prepared with questions to ask during their interview. Sites like Glassdoor and Yelp provide an open forum for feedback, so it’s important you know what’s being said about you.
Be prepared to address the elephant in the room with candidates, and have honest and open conversations with your internal teams on how to turn negative feedback into positive change.
Our Tips:• Have regular (monthly or quarterly)
meetings to check your Glassdoor reputation and respond to both positive and negative reviews.
• Make sure you have a social media presence that not only reflects your brand but makes prospective candidates want to work there.
• Encourage internal employees to write authentic and positive reviews about their experience with the company.
Give Emerging Talent a Chance
Manage Your Reputation
Can you turn around a job offer in 24 hours?
Most companies want candidates with a few years of experience under their belt, but in a competitive marketplace, it can be challenging to always meet that requirement. Yet with every challenge comes an opportunity: there’s a new generation of talent entering the job market, and many of them have a diverse range of technical and communication skills that can be applied almost anywhere.
Less experienced candidates are also willing to work extended hours to gain essential experience, and at an entry-level salary. You also have the opportunity to groom them and nurture their loyalty down the line.
Our Tips:• While interviewing entry-level
candidates, emphasize growth opportunities within your company.
• Encourage managers to think of themselves as mentors to their team members and develop leadership programs to make sure they’re doing everything they can to groom their “homegrown talent.”
• 401(K) Match• Summer Fridays• Flexible work schedule• Unlimited PTO• Office closing between Christmas
and New Years• Extended maternity/paternity leave• Gym reimbursements• Free meals• Transportation reimbursement• Laptop and mobile phone
reimbursement• Student loan assistance and
financial counseling• Integrated wellness programs• Pet insurance programs
